Such as what she said about the difficulty of learning a language when you are surrounded by your native language at your workplace. I also faced this problem when trying to learn Japanese in Japan. Also, as she did, I learnt a lot about the country I come from by going overseas. Note for people who don't understand Japanese: Maki used the word "gaijin" 外人. This means foreigner, but, as it says in wikipedia it is "mainly used to refer to non-East Asians".
