Goran Sollscher: Chaconne (Bach, BWV1004) by 11-string altoguitar Chaconne (BWV1004) was originally composed by J.S.Bach for playing violin. Although, Chaconne is a difficult piece for any instrument, Andres Segovia premiered it by using guitar in 1935. Since then,Chaconne became a popular piece for professional guitarists in the world. Goran Sollscher(born in 1955) is a Swedish award-winning guitarist.He won the Concours International de Guitare in Paris,1978. When he visited Japan for the first time in 1984, I knew a splendid sound of 11-string altoguitar. In playing Chaconne, Maestro Sollscher seemed to employ Bm instead of Dm on altoguitar in 6-string guitar. John Francis: "Coral Sunset" 11 string alto guitar altgitarr John Francis performs his original work "Coral Sunset" for the alto-guitar May 10, 2007 at KCTU TV studios in Wichita, Kansas. Director/Photographer: Rick Dunbar. This particular alto-guitar was dubbed "Carollos" by the inventor, Georg Bolin of Sweden. Bolin did not like serial numbers. He built this guitar to order, in 1984, for late American guitarist and teacher Dave Markle. The alto-guitar (altgitarr or altgitarren) has 11 nylon strings. Its top six are pitched a minor third higher than standard tuning, like the Renaissance lute. It's five extra bass strings drop diatonically as F-Eb-D-C-Bb. This would be like D-C-B-A-G on a standard guitar. The extra basses are not usually fretted, but are played open. They may also be tuned to fit a particular key.
