Aegis BMD (FTM-11) Stellar Hunters Quick Release Lieutenant General Henry "Trey" Obering, Missile Defense Agency (MDA) director, announced the successful completion today of the latest Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense "hit to kill" intercept flight test. Conducted jointly with the U.S. Navy, the test involved the simultaneous engagements of a ballistic missile "unitary" target (meaning that the target warhead and booster remain attached) and a surrogate hostile air target. This marked the eighth successful intercept in ten flight tests for the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) Program. The Aegis BMD system is the maritime component of the MDA's Ballistic Missile Defense System, and is designed to intercept and destroy short to intermediate-range ballistic missiles. This test also marked the 27th successful hit to kill intercept in tests since 2001. The mission was completed by the Aegis BMD cruiser USS Lake Erie (CG 70), using the Aegis BMD's shipboard weapon system; the Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) Block IA, against the ballistic missile target; and the Standard Missile-2 (SM-2) Block IIIA, against the surrogate hostile air target. The test demonstrated the USS Lake Erie's ability to engage a ballistic missile threat and defend itself from attack at the same time. The test also demonstrated the effectiveness of engineering, manufacturing, and mission assurance changes in the solid divert and attitude control system (SDACS) in the kinetic kill weapon. This was the first flight test of all the SM-3 Block IA's upgrades, previously demonstrated in ground tests. At approximately 11:31 a.m. Hawaii Time (5:31 p.m. EDT), a short-range ballistic missile target was launched from the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF), Barking Sands, Kauai, Hawaii. At the same time, a target with characteristics similar to a hostile high performance aircraft was launched from a Navy aircraft. The Lake Erie's Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense 3.6 Weapon System detected and tracked both targets and developed fire control solutions. Approximately one minute later, the Lake Erie's crew fired the SM-3 and SM-2 missiles, and two minutes later both missiles successfully intercepted their respective targets. The SM-3 intercept occurred approximately 100 miles above the Pacific Ocean and 250 miles northwest of Kauai, once again successfully demonstrating "hit to kill" technology, which means that the target missile was destroyed when the interceptor missile collided directly with the target. MDA and the U.S. Navy cooperatively manage the Aegis BMD Program. The SM-2 Program is managed by the Naval Sea Systems Command. Lockheed Martin Maritime Systems and Sensors of Moorestown, New Jersey is the Combat System Engineering Agent (CSEA) and prime contractor for the Aegis BMD Weapon System and Vertical Launch System installed in Aegis-equipped cruisers and destroyers. Raytheon Missile Systems of Tucson, Arizona is the prime contractor for all variants of the Standard Missile. MTF 3 chapter 11 Ok guys so I have been brainstorming a lot and figured out what my next story is going to be, how do you feel if I take a break to write a Twilight series? Jamie sat at the cafeteria table, across from Martin and sighed. She was so worried about Mon, worried about how she would react, about if her friend would be able to make it through this. Martin stood up casually, and took Jamies hand and they walked to the elevators, once in the elevator Martin pressed the button that said 8 Maternity. And held Jamie close as they rose up off the ground. The doors opened and they strolled down the hallway, Jamie stopped as she seen the nursery, that held all the newborn babies, she pressed her fingers against the cold glass and eagerly searched one last time for the tiny plastic clear bin that would have a tag that read Jonas. No such luck, she knew it already, she had done this each time she passed by. She felt the nerves she had built up start to slowly fade as she seen Mon sitting up in her bed, carefully listening to what Kevin was saying, Jamie gathered herself and once again grabbed onto Martin and walked through the threshold of the door, and smiled at her friend, who eagerly smiled back and raised her hands out to her and Martin. They both hugged her, Martin sat by her side on the bed, and looked up at Kevin asking him with his eyes, if he had told her yet. Kevin lightly shook his head no, and Martin shook his head in disapproval, then looked up at Mon, and felt the urge to just wrap her up and take her home, away from hospitals, away from pain, he had always tried to take care of her and Jamie, and usually he succeeded, but this time he knew he had no way of making things better, so instead he took both of her hands in his, and looked at her with sympathy in his eyes. Martin: Jamie, why dont you and Kevin go ahead and get some coffee downstairs, he needs to freshen himself up. Ill be here. Jamie: uhh, ok. Come on Kev. Kevin: no. I need to stay! Martin shot him a sideways glance and without another word Kevin put his head down and silently followed Jamie from the room. They walked back down the same hall and Kevin grimaced and looked away from the nursery and blocked out the sounds of the new babies crying, and the way the new mothers and fathers cradled their delicate new gifts in their hands, he wondered to himself if he would be able to have that again. Mon looked at Martin and searched deep in his eyes, for answers. He tried to not let it show in his face, the sadness. He knew that he only had a few seconds before she was going to ask him questions, and he needed the right answers. She squeezed his hands lightly and nudged him to look back up into her eyes. He did slowly and she opened her mouth to speak. Mon: Martin, tell me where my daughter is. Martin: shes here. Mon: where? Martin: here, at the hospital. Somewhere on this floor. As he spoke he looked back down, trying to avoid contact with her eyes. Mon: Martin. Look at me. Martin: I cant. Mon: why not? What happened? Why did I black out? Why was I bleeding? Is she okay? Martin: * he looked up finally meeting her gaze and begun slowly* you were stressed, we dont know what about, but you stressed yourself, and your blood pressure was too high. Thats why you blocked out. We brought you in, and, they realized that the babys heart was racing to slow, so they had to take her out fast. When they did, hey noticed that she was smaller then she should have been, and she wasnt breathing. * he seen the tears start to form in his best friends eyes, and felt his heart shatter, but he kept going* you need to know shes alive. But they said she might not survive much longer. Shes on breathing machines, in an incubator. Her lungs are underdeveloped and if they dont form soon, there is nothing they can do to help her, just pray that they grow, thats all we can do. Mon looked up at Kevin who just walked back into the room. Mon: have you seen her? Kevin: once. I cant go back. Its too hard. Mon pulled the blankets from over her legs and swung her legs over the edge of the bed. And stod up, she waited a few seconds to gain her balance, and felt martins strong hands steady her. Kevin: what are you doing? Get back in bed! You need rest! Mon: bullshit Kevin! You need to get your ass over there to where she is! I dont care how hard it is for you! I carried her for 8 months! You dont know what thats like! What about how im feeling? Or how shes feeling? Stop being so selfish! Martin. Can you take me to her? Martin: lets go.
