This is the oldest surviving film footage that contains the scenery of Korea. In this footage, We can see some places in Seoul, which are still remained today. After the Original footage is over, I will put some slide shows, comparing past & present of some places & people. The Music is A Crossover tune with Guitar and Dae-Gum, a type of Korean flute. 田谷力三(1899-1988)浅草オペラの夕べより(1983) 浅草オペラのトップスターだった田谷力三の、84歳の歌声。浅草オペラのアリアから、「岩にもたれた」（オーベル「フラ・ディアボロ」より）、「恋はやさし野辺の花よ」（スッペ「ボッカチオ 」より）を歌っている。 田谷力三は、1899（明治32）年、東京は神田明神下に生まれたチャキチャキの江戸っ子。直参旗本の家系。1909（明治42）年、三越少年音楽隊に入り、音楽生活を始める。1917（大正6）年、三越少年音楽隊を退団し、ヴィットリオ・ジョバンニ・ローシーの経営する「ローヤル館」に入り、オペラを始める。デビューはオッフェンバック「ブン大将」のフリッツ役であった。1918（大正7）年、ローヤル館の閉館にともない、原信子歌劇団に移籍、浅草デビュー。同年7月、東京歌劇座（翌年七声歌劇団となる）、1919（大正8）年、伊庭孝の新星歌劇団（その後歌劇団の大合同により、根岸大歌劇団となる）と、浅草オペラのトップスタートして君臨した。1923（大正12）年の関東大震災をきっかけに、急激に浅草オペラが没落。一時期、森歌劇団などの活動はあったものの、1926（大正15）年には、その活動が停止する。昭和に入り、レビューやレコード活動を行っていたが、浅草オペラの再興を生涯の夢として、芸能活動を続けていたと言う。1970（昭和45）年紫綬褒章授章、1976（昭和51）年勲四等旭日小綬章授与。 Tags: 田谷 力三 浅草オペラ taya rikizo asakusa-opera |

New York Police Parade, June 1st, 1899 The film shows members of "New York's Finest" parading at a crowded Union Square. There are members of the Bicycle Squad, mounted horses, and two regimental marching bands. At the time of filming, the New York City Police Department was still recovering from the corruption scandals of the early 1890's that had severely tarnished the reputation of the department. A State Senate appointed group known as the Lexow Committee investigated the department and issued a scathing report that detailed serious criminal activity within the department. In 1895, public opinion was so low that the annual parade wasn't held. That same year, Theodore Roosevelt was appointed president of the Police Board, and he is credited with initiating strict and effective reform measures that helped restore the public's confidence in the police. The head of the column is just turning into 14th Street from Broadway, the Morton House forming part of the background. Women's Rights (1899) A century before Little Britain's Emily and Florence first assaulted our screens, a pair of equally rubbish transvestites could be spotted in this short comedy. Our cross-dressing housewives are enjoying a gossip before they're abused by a couple of men. The film doesn't make clear why they deserve this attack, but an accompanying set of cards produced by the production company indicates that the ladies were engaged in a discussion about the then pressing political issue of women's suffrage. It's hard not to suspect a degree of misogyny on the behalf of not only the abusing men, but also the filmmakers. There's no record of why the housewives should have been played by an amateur drag act, but perhaps it's nothing more than that noble British tradition of men slipping into frocks at the drop of a hat. "Sérénade" (Gounod) Pierre Bernac, baritone 1899-1979 Gounod's lovely song by a man with almost no voice but a great technique and diction, HMV 1945, Abbey Road DB 6250. Pierre Bernac (born as Pierre Bertin on 12 January 1899 in Paris - died 17 October 1979 in Villeneuve-les-Avignon) was a French baritone. Although coming to music relatively late, he became the most renowned interpreter of the French art song, and was also famous as a teacher. He taught in master classes and the American Conservatory at Fontainebleau. His students include Gérard Souzay, Mattiwilda Dobbs, Elly Ameling, and Jessye Norman. Bernac made a number of international concert tours with his lifelong friend Francis Poulenc as accompanist, who wrote many songs for him, including Tel jour, telle nuit and Calligrammes. Composers such as André Jolivet, Henri Sauguet and Jean Françaix also wrote with Bernac in mind. He also shone in German lieder.
