Morocco (1930) with Marlene Dietrich, Kiss Scene, Complete. ...Whatever other reason you might have to watch MOROCCO, there's no denying that Marlene Dietrich is very clearly the star of the entire enterprise. The way von Sternberg photographs and captures her makes her appear mysterious, beautiful and yet achingly vulnerable at the same time. You couldn't talk about Dietrich in this film without also mentioning von Sternberg in the same breath, since she is so very evidently portrayed in the way he sees her at her best. Some shots of Dietrich, more than others, are breathtaking. Even if her character isn't particularly well-fleshed-out and her lines not too great (von Sternberg fed her most of her lines during filming, partly because that's how he works and partly because Dietrich apparently knew very little English), Amy/Dietrich--both creations of the same directorial genius--is a fine work of art. Whether it's Dietrich creating a furor of gasps when she emerges in her tux, or when she plants a firm kiss on another lady's mouth (this film was made in *1930*!), she is a simply captivating screen presence--Cooper seems bland in his role in comparison, and Menjou is adequate but certainly doesn't steal the picture. The sound for the whole film isn't that great, and Dietrich does have to sing over the noise of the crowd so you really have to struggle to make out what she's saying... but just looking at her really is enough in this film. ..............From IMDB The Foreign Legion marches in to Mogador with booze and women in mind just as singer Amy Jolly arrives from Paris to work at Lo Tinto's cabaret. That night, insouciant legionnaire Tom Brown catches her inimitably seductive, tuxedo-clad act. Both bruised by their past lives, the two edge cautiously into a no-strings relationship while being pursued by others. But Tom must leave on a perilous mission: is it too late for them? Mauna Loa Volcano, Hawaii -1930's Eruption Remarkable silent film, 16mm Kodachrome movie film, YouTube of it's day. Probably the first color film ever made of a volcanic eruption. Mokuaweoweo Crater eruption filmed probably in late 1935 by Harold T. Stearns, a USGS Hydrologist-Volcanologist. The lava fountains are hundreds of feet high, the erupting fissure inside the crater is about two thousand feet long. The crater floor is at an elevation of 13,100' ASL. Stearns is flying in an open cockpit at an altitude of around 15,000' ASL. Note patches of snow on the rim of the crater! At 1 min, 50 secs into the video, a plane will enter the lower right corner of the frame. View the entire 66 minute SILENT FILM compilation that was hand edited by Stearns himself, but you have to use Windows Media Player, on the file menu select "open URL" and past in: mms://video.wr.usgs.gov/movies/early_hawaiian_volcanoes.wmv This file contains all of this footage plus all of Stearn's other film covering about 15 years in Hawaii between the late 1920's and the early 1940's. The early Blues Masters of the 1920s and 30s, would place a bottleneck from a wine bottle, or a short piece of metal pipe on their finger. Using this as a slide, they could move up and down along the strings of a guitar imitating singing or the cries and moans of the human voice. This style uses an early method of tuning the guitar called open tuning, that is also used to play banjo. The guitar is tuned to a D or E chord, that actually makes it easier to learn music theory. The course starts with learning to play single note melody lines on one string. Next, by adding a second note harmony is created. Then a third note creates chords. The final song is embellished by adding strumming techniques and bottleneck slide. THIS CD WILL NOT ONLY TEACH YOU HOW TO PLAY BOTTLENECK GUITAR, BUT HOW TO CREATE AND ARRANGE SONGS. The Blues songs presented on this cd are in the style of Robert Johnson, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Tommy Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, Howlin' Wolf, and Muddy Waters .Traditional Country Gospel songs are also taught because they were a major influence in the development of the Blues. Plays on your PC or MAC (software that supports Windows media required). Video in .WMA format. Use Windows media player, Winamp (free download online), etc. Almost 2 hours long. ***VIDEO LESSON SERIES 2 SPANISH TUNING OPEN G and A The Blues songs presented on this CD are intended to help the student explore the fingerboard of a Spanish tuned (Open G) guitar. Spanish Fandango, a turn of the century parlor guitar piece is taught to improve right hand picking technique. A detailed study of a typical 12 bar Blues progression offers endless possibilities for creativity. Two classic Mississippi Delta Blues songs, Walking Blues and Rollin' and Tumblin' are also presented for further study. Psychedelic 1930's BING CROSBY video If you think this "video" is from a 1960's light show, or a New Age meditation tape, think again. These animated patterns were filmed in the late 1930's to accompany a song by BING CROSBY. No credits exist except for the song title "When the Organ Played Oh Promise Me" which was recorded by Bing in 1937. Could this have been influenced by the work of Oskar Fischinger? How was it made? And how was it meant to be shown -in a movie theater, or projected onto a dance floor? Your feedback is welcome! From my late grandfather's movie collection - to see more curious films, visit "GRANDPA'S PICTURE PARTY" at http://www.webnik.com/homemovies . Flip The Frog - Fiddlesticks (1930) Flip the Frog was Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's first sound cartoon. It is about a happy-go-lucky, needy frog, named Flip the Frog. This cartoon was created by Ub Iwerks in 1930. He had drawn a frog and his girlfriend in "Night'", one of the last Silly Symphonies short films he drew while working for Walt Disney. After leaving Disney, Ub Iwerks began the Flip cartoon series with the help of Pat Powers. The first cartoon that Ub Iwerks made for the series was called Fiddlesticks (released on August 16, 1930), and it was also the first color sound cartoon ever made. Fiddlesticks was made in two-color Technicolor. The rest of the Flip series were made in black and white, except for Techno-Cracked (1933). Tags: cartoon animation |

My, Pierwsza Brygada - Pieśń legionów. Wykonanie z 1930 r. Polish Army march 'My Pierwsza Brygada' (We, the First Brigade) (composed in autumn 1917 by an anonymous author, to the texst by Andrzej Hałaciński and Tadeusz Biernacki) soon became an unofficial anthem of the Independent Poland, - slowly resurrecting during the Ist Word war from the 150 years of occupation by Prussia, Austria and Russia. The Legions, formed in 1914-1916 by later Marshall Josef Piłsudski, were the beginning of the New Army of a Free Poland. The Army, who, two years later, after the WWI was ended and the independent state of the Polish Republic was reestablished, had to defend the newly born Polish state against the deadly threat of the Red Army ivasion, during the 1920 Polish-bolshevik war. The victorous Battle of Warsaw (15 August 1920) where the the Communist invasion on the whole of Europe and its culture was stoped by Pilsudski's young army, has never been forgotten by the Soviets, as the greatest humilation in the history of the Soviet Russia. In April 1940 -- the Stalin ordained massacre of the Polish Officers in Katyn, is considered by the historians as the Stalin's revenge on those, who twenty years earlier had stopped and beaten the Budionny troops just at the gates of Warsaw and Western Europe. My, Pierwsza Brygada (We, the First Brigade) The Legions are a beggar's tune, The Legions are a sacrifical pyre, The Legions are a soldier's pride, The Legions are a martyr's fate. We the First Brigade, A sharpshooter's battalion, Onto the pyre we have cast them Our life's fate Onto the pyre, onto the pyre. Oh, how much suffering, how much pain, Oh, how much blood and how many tears shed, Despite this there is no doubt, The end of our wandering has given us strength. We the First Brigade... They shouted we were done for Not believing us, that where there's a will there's a way! We spilled blood on our own And our beloved Leader was with us. We the First Brigade... Recording: Pierwsza Brygada - Eugeniusz Mossakowski, baryton, z udz. Chóru W. Lachmana i ork. pod dyr. Bronisława Szulca, Syrena-Electro (ok. 1930) ATTENTION!
