vista vs Xp: 3ds max 8 well, my old laptop was getting bugged, and dualscreen support stopped working. so i decided to get a new computer, and in my infinite wisdom, i purchased a dell. i couldn't find a way to get XP on the dell webshop, so i called, and asked the lady on the phone if she could order the computer with Xp installed and not vista. sure, she said. well, long story short, that bitch gave me vista. and after a month of arguing with them they've refused to send me an XP CD. great. FUCK. so i decided to try out exactly how bad vista could be. just to give a basis of comparison, the vista computer is a brand new dell, less than a month old, with a geforce 7900, intel core2 T7400 CPU and 2046mb ram. it cost me about 17000kr the XP computer.. oh man, we go way back to the beginning of 2005. thats almost 3 years from today. its a medion, with a radeon 9700, AMD athlon 64 3000+ processor, and 1.25gb of ram. price was about 14000kr. on both computers, i have 3ds max 8 SP3 installed, both running with the directX 9 drivers, and the same scene, both containing 67170 polygons. and both computers run with a screen resolution of 1440x900. on paper, the new dell should mop the floor with the medion. well, unfortunately not. its crippled... by vista. as a side note, a friend of mine tried to install 3ds max 9 on vista, but he couldn't.
