Knock On Wood - Amii Stewart 2 - Paula Abdul / Libertino Remix 2008 (**A Luvtheheaven Dance Competition ENTRY!**) "Knock on Wood" is a hit 1966 song written by Eddie Floyd and Steve Cropper and performed by Eddie Floyd This version was a huge hit in 1978 for a young Amii Stewart . This version reached #1 in the U.S. charts in April of 1979, becoming the most well-known version of the song. Amy Paulette Stewart (born January 29, 1956, in Washington D.C.) is an American contemporary R&B/disco/dance-pop singer, dancer and actress most famous for the disco tune "Knock on Wood". Stewart is the aunt of actress/singer Sinitta who, in turn, is the daughter of actress/singer Miquel Brown. Amii Stewart's father signed her up for singing and dancing lessons from the age of four, and this eventually led to a very successful career as one of the most highly regarded disco artists. Before being signed to Ariola Records, Stewart was in the touring company of the stage production Bubbling Brown Sugar, firstly in Miama, then Broadway, and eventually London's West End, where she met Barry Leng, a record producer for Hansa records. "You Really Touch My Heart" a Barry Leng/Simon May composition, produced by Leng, was Stewart's first recording. An album followed, which contained five Leng/May songs, one Leng/Morris song and three cover versions. Her first single, a disco cover version of the 1966 Eddie Floyd hit "Knock on Wood" (Floyd/Cropper), reached number one in the U.S. in April 1979, and earned her a platinum record and a Grammy Award nomination. It also reached number 6 in the U.K., and number 2 in Australia, in the same year. While Amii Stewart may be mostly remembered for her 1979 hit "Knock On Wood" in her native United States, she has remained popular and commercially successful in Europe for more than three decades, having released 12 studio albums and some 50 singles, most of them in the Soul and R&B genres. In the 1998 movie 54, actress/singer Mary Griffin portrayed Amii Stewart, performing the song; Knock on Wood, at the famed discotheque: Studio 54. While performing, Griffin wore a similarly extravagant outfit that Stewart wore in the video to "Knock On Wood" back in 1979. Although it was obvious that Griffin was portraying Stewart, the credits at the end of the movie have Griffin's character listed as Disco Star. In 2000, Stewart toured Italy, playing the part of Mary Magdalene, in the revival of the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. The play also starred Carl Anderson, who revived his role of "Judas Iscariot" from the 1971 movie. In 2003, Stewart starred in the musical Lady Day, in the role of Billie Holiday; the musical was written and produced by her. Since 2001 Stewart has been working as a goodwill ambassador for Italian Unicef and has been involved in a large number of projects such as "Uniti per i bambini, Uniti control'AIDS" (translated as "United for the children, united against AIDS"). In 2006 Stewart and long-time friend and collaborator Ennio Morricone released 5 track single "Love Song", sung in English, Italian, French, Spanish as well as a multilingual version. All proceeds from the single went to Unicef's campaign "Check Out For Children". In May 2007 Stewart again participated in the Sanremo Music Festival, performing duet "Schiavo D'Amore" with Piero Mazzocchetti. Everything good just keeps coming back. BeXta - V.I.P. featuring Amii News update -- for all those people who think BeXta is a hard dance artist... get with it! BeXta has been laying low recently and now we know where she's been, apart from running a record label, touring the country in clubs and on the Big Day Out and releasing the 10th installment of her Mixology dj mix series...... Australia's Queen of dance has been locked in the studio laying down a new sound! V.I.P. is the result of a collaboration with a few people, the first being the vocalist Amii Jackson. Amii was featured on a 2007 Mixology Digital Release "Star Rider" by JvE. Recently Amii and BeXta have both moved to Melbourne, and met up to create the first of many collabs "V.I.P.". Then BeXta worked with ex Psuedo Echo front man Brian Canham to produce a single that has been described as Kylie meets the Potbellyz. Amii is originally from Adelaide and is a confessed Madonna and Kylie addict, and this is where she gets her inspiration. She has mainly collaborated with more underground artists, and Amii feels this works well with her very pop sounding voice. BeXta and Amii have been in the studio co-writing and VIP is no doubt a sure sign of things to come. The single has 6 mixes -- the radio mix is a pop dance mix with hints of electro, without sounding cheesy or sugary. The club versions are definitely made for the clubs, and are club trance with an 80's influence. BeXta's SoundGarden mix was made especially for BeXta's opening track at the Big Day Out this year... repeating the lyric "let me introduce myself don't you know who I am". This mix is a bit more like the old BeXta but the only way to describe it would be that now, she's "all grown up". There's maturity in her productions, you can hear her experience and history, but being the absolute sound of now, at the same time. Mixology Digital label mate Patrik Carrera has put his stamp on his ReRub mix, more chilled than his other tech trance productions, this mix could even go down well on a Sunday morning sunrise. There's a video clip to accompany the track, produced and directed by Simon Day, who has done a fantastic Pump up the Jam meets an iPod add treatment to the radio edit.
