Is Naturalistic Biogenesis Scientific? A. E. Wilder-Smith SPONTANEOUS GENERATION The theory of life from non-living things is the error of "spontaneous generation," Spontaneous generation was called abiogensis and is now referred by evolutionists as biopoiesis. "Biogenesis is a term in biology that is derived from two Greek words meaning life and birth. According to the theory of biogenesis, living things decended only from nonliving things. They cannot develope spontaneously from nonliving materials. Until comparatively recent times, scientists believed that certain tiny forms of life, such as bacteria, arose spontaneously from non-living substances." *Biogenesis, "World Book Encyclopedia, p. B-242 (1972 edition). "Pasteur's demonstration apparently laid the theory of spontaneous generation to rest permanently. All this left a germ of embarrassment for scientists. How had life originated after all, if not through divine creation or through spontaneous generation?.."They [today's scientists] are back to spontaneous generation, but with a difference. The pre-Pasteur view of spontaneous generation was of something taking place now and quickly. The modern view is that it took place long ago and very slowly." *Isaac Asimov, Asimov's New Guide to Science (1984), pp. 638-639. "His aphorism 'omnis cellula e cellula' [every living cell arises from a preexisting living cell] ranks with Pasteur's 'omne vivum vivo' [every living thing arises from a preexisting a preexisting living thing] as among the most revolutionary generalizations of biology' *Rudolf Virchow, *Encyclopedia Britannica. 1973 Edition, Vol. 23, p. 35. " 'Spontaneous generation is a chimera [illusion].'--Louis Pasteur, French chemist and microbiologist." *Isaac Asimov's Book of Science and Nature Quotations (1988), p. 193. "What really matters, to start life, is the faculty of reproduction" (*G. Montalenti, Studies in the Philosophy of Biology, 1974, p. 13) "You may be surprised to hear that the origin of species remains just as much a mystery today, despite the efforts of thousands of biologists. The topic has been the main focus of attention and is beset by endless controveries." *Gordon R. Tayor, Great Evolution Mystery (1983), p. 140. "Mathematics and dynamics fail us when we contemplate the earth, fitted for life but lifeless, and try to imagine the commencement of life upon it. This certainly did not take place by any action of chemistry, or electricity, or crystalline grouping of molecules under the influence of force, or by any possible kind of fortuitous concourse of atmosphere. We must pause, face to face with the mystery and miracle of creation of living things." Lord Kevin, quoted in Battle for Creation, p. 232. Origin of Life 1 -- Abiogenesis Three videos discussing the theoretical idea of abiogenesis. I am not a young earth creationist and I'm not particularly making an argument for creationism or intelligent design. I do however make fun of the current scientific creation myths of abiogenesis. These videos discuss how atoms become amino acids which become proteins and finally can be organized into a living single cell organism. The current scientific models of abiogensis are actually simply attempts to explain how life could have come about with out the causation or intervention of any agent. Theist Arguments Ep 3 - Attacking Evolution 5, Off Topic This is the 3rd episode of Theists Arguments series. In this video I look at some of the theist arguments floating around YouTube and how they claim to "debunk" evolution. Remember just because you say debunk doesn't make it true. Part 5 of episode 3. Part 5 sees how off topic creationists can get when attacking the Theory of Evolution. I also answer some of the questions that TheSkepticAntidote offers. Re: Satan Invented Evolution (part 1) I respond to VenomFangX's somewhat interesting video on creationism vs evolution (or rather, his video on evolution and why it is, in his mere opinion, kinda smelly, while he doesn't even attempt to backup creationism, but says it must be true... after all... evolution just sounds icky!)... BREAKING NEWS - Intelligent Design Wins NEW INFORMATION Ken Miller's "refutation" of I.D. thoroughly debunked: http://www.discovery.org/scripts/viewDB/filesDB-download.php?command=download&id=747 SAMPLE Miller's testimony and Judge Jones's conclusion is based upon a false test of irreducible complexity which focuses on the functionality of one-sub-part, not the functionality of the entire flagellar system. If Miller could find functions for all flagellar sub-systems outside of the flagellum, he would admittedly be making progress towards an evolutionary explanation by satisfying Angus Menuge's first criterion of "Availability" (C1). However, as Minnich and Meyer ask: "[T]he other thirty proteins in the flagellar motor (that are not present in the TTSS) are unique to the motor and are not found in any other living system. From whence, then, were these protein parts co-opted?" Miller has no answer to that question. As it stands, all Miller could provide as evidence for the evolution of the flagellum is the TTSS, and which would account for the availability about 1/4 of Menuge's first step. Ignoring the fact that the TTSS probably evolved from the flagellum, and not the other way around, if Miller could account for the availability (C1) of all of the parts of the flagellum then Miller would simply have to explain the Synchronization (C2), Localization (C3), Coordination (C4), and Interface compatibility (C5) to account for the evolution of the flagellum; thereby eliminating the need for "non-slight"modifications along its evolutionary pathway. But Miller did none of this. Despite the inadequacy of Miller's explanations, Judge Jones decided that Dr. Kenneth Miller's arguments and inaccurate characterizations of irreducible complexity were correct. This is ruling was made despite the fact that Dr. Scott Minnich, a pro-ID microbiologist and expert on the flagellum, testified extensively at the trial about how his own tests demonstrate the irreducibly complex nature of the flagellum Consider Minnich's testimony which Jones completely ignored in the Kitzmiller decision: "A. I work on the bacterial flagellum, understanding the function of the bacterial flagellum for example by exposing cells to mutagenic compounds or agents, and then scoring for cells that have attenuated or lost motility. This is our phenotype. The cells can swim or they can't. We mutagenize the cells, if we hit a gene that's involved in function of the flagellum, they can't swim, which is a scorable phenotype that we use. Reverse engineering is then employed to identify all these genes. We couple this with biochemistry to essentially rebuild the structure and understand what the function of each individual part is. Summary, it is the process more akin to design that propelled biology from a mere descriptive science to an experimental science in terms of employing these techniques." Minnich explained how he mutated all of the flagellar genes and found that the flagellum loses function if even one gene is missing. Thus, the flagellum is irreducibly complex with respect to its gene compliment: "One mutation, one part knock out, it can't swim. Put that single gene back in we restore motility. Same thing over here. We put, knock out one part, put a good copy of the gene back in, and they can swim. By definition the system is irreducibly complex. We've done that with all 35 components of the flagellum, and we get the same effect." Unfortunately Judge Jones chose to ignore this testimony. E N D S A M P L E The brilliant Michael Behe, with the help of Hubert Yockey and Robert Sauer, explains how improbable - NAY, IMPOSSIBLE - the formation of a single protein is. This completely rules out the possibility of life coming about by chance which makes I.D. the winner by forfeit. Congratulations to the IDers for this outstanding victory. It was hard-fought, which makes it all the sweeter. And thanks to all the atheists for playing along. As the runners-up, you're not walking away empty handed. Tell them what they win, Chuck.... "As runners up, atheists will enjoy an eternal trip to the fiery pits of Hell! Get the tan of your lifetime in temperatures soaring at over 60,000 degrees Fahrenheit! Back to you Jared!" The audio is slightly out of sync. Tags: ID Intelligent Design Atheist Atheism God Michael Behe Richard Dawkins Abiogensis Evolution Expelled Ben Stein Religion |

The Origin of Life - Abiogenesis This has been CONFIRMED in Dr. Szostak's LAB!! It's been 55 years since the Miller-Urey Experiment, and science has made enormous progress on solving the origin of life. This video summarizes one of the best leading models. Yes there are others. Science may never know exactly how life DID start, but we will know many ways how life COULD start. Don't be fooled by creationist arguments as even a minimal understanding of biology and chemistry is enough to realize they have no clue what they are talking about. Note on how competition works. Water will flow across a membrane to try to equalize the ion concentration. If there is a lot of polymer in a vesicle it will be surrounded by many ions, thus causing water to flow into the vesicle, increasing the internal pressure and stretching the membrane. Fatty acids are in equilibrium between the vesicle and solution. If 2 vesicles are near one another they will gradually swap fatty acids. If one membrane is under tension, the fatty acid "on rate" will be greater than the "off rate" (move to a lower energy state by relaxing the pressure). It will suck up fatty acids from solution. The other vesicle will still give them off, but they will disappear (sucked up by neighbor) and not return. Therefore, the vesicle with high internal pressure will grow and the neighbor will shrink.
