Canadian candidate promises to aid unemployed and aboriginals Liberal Canadian MP Jack Layton has promised to protect Ontario jobs and aid aboriginal peoples, as he campaigns for the upcoming national elections. Speaking at an Ottawa town hall meeting, Layton blamed Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper for the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs in Canadian manufacturing. He said Harper gave away $50 billion Canadian taxpayer dollars to companies that send jobs overseas. Layton promised to end corporate tax cuts for companies "who don't need them," giving the money instead to businesses that develop environmental innovations. He also criticized the Conservative government's treatment of First Nations, saying aboriginals lack education and housing. Ottawa is the capital of Canada, and the second largest city in Ontario, with 1.2 million canucks. Aboriginal people make up 2.2 percent of Ontarios population.
