Behind The Laughter: The Lion Angler Club Spanish Version This is the general gist of the script, some phrases are lost in translation, and some are added Narrator: Welcome, today we are exploring the Lion Angler Club. Sure we all know of it, but where did the hilarity really come from? For the next three hours we will be going behind the laughter. //~~~~~~~~~~~1890~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Narrator: The Lion Angler Club started with a dream...for those wanting to catch big fish in a small pond (or was it small fish in a big pond?) Dan: (awakening from a dream) Aha, I think I shall be a traveling anvil salesman! Greg: Or a fisherman! Dan: Oh Yes! I think I will start a fishing club. I'll find some sticks, string, and head to the lake! Come with me! [Walks into water] Aha! A boat! A boat is what we need! //~~~~~~~~~~~1910~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [Cuts into new scene, more modern, play the Entertainer] Dan: How could I have lived without this? [Shows off rod & reel] Greg: I don't know, but the fish sure have been living without it Dan: Whoa! I think I got one! Here it comes...[Reels up boot] Oh goodness, it's a boot. Greg: Don't even think about eating that...Throw it back! Dan: Well, I could, but I'd rather save it and hang it on my bedroom wall, like a trophy. After all, this is the first time I have caught something out here. Greg: Very true...Congratulations! I want to try...I will catch a fish someday too. Soon we'll both be professionals, and can pass on our knowledge to future anglers! [Fade out...] //~~~~~~~~~~~1940~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Narrator: Unfortunately, the Lion Angler Club was devastated by World War II...However, a great innovation came about during this time that would revolutionize fishing in the '40's... Greg: Behold the "F-Bomb", I was traveling in America when I saw it! Dan: Holy smokes! I have never seen something so innovative being used in the angling world! Give it to me! [Drops bomb, show mushroom cloud] Greg: Wow, that's amazing! Look at all those fish! I have seen history in the making, this could lead the Lion Anglers into the record books. But do not tell anyone else about this secret weapon. Dan: Incredible, it killed all those fish for us without any work! They sure didn't see that one coming. Hmmmm...I just realized something... Greg: Why what's that? Dan: The bomb contaminated them with radioactive waste, they won't be any good for us to eat. Care to try one for me? Greg: No thanks, I don't want to get radiation sickness. So much for the F-Bomb since it destroyed everything and contaminated the fish. What's next? //~~~~~~~~~~~1960~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Narrator: In The 1960's, The Lion Anglers were keeping with the times (show Dan, Greg, Dan's Dog smoking) Greg: Aycarumba, everyone is doing it. (show fish smoking, Greg spits it out, then points to new one) Bring me it! Dan: (dazed) Greg: I was speaking to you! Dan: I had heard you, tell him to do it! (points to fish) (both fall out of the boat) //~~~~~~~~~~~2005~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Narrator: And so we are left with the modern-day Lion Anglers. Behold the men behind the myth - or are they? Greg: Whoa, hello there. You didn't think we were all about fishing did you? Because we're not, there's more to angling than just the fish. Training is important too! Dan: That's right. I have been conditioning for the spring season for quite some time now [flexes] I could do this all day. Greg: And I am studying the best way to attract a trout [reading book] I was reading these books occasionally, but then I bought a lot of them. //~~~~~~~~~~~Ending Montage~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Narrator: Start Inspirational Music! (Chariots of Fire Theme) And so, ladies and gentleman, the Lion Angler club has shown excellence in all fields, whether they are fishing, cooking, eating, cleaning, (show parent doing work and us sleeping) clapping to music, or angling. (show with protractor) Tags: fish boat ndcl |

Angler Fish - Fauna Clips Members of the genus Lophius, also sometimes called monkfish, goosefish, fishing-frogs, frog-fish, and sea-devils, are well known off the coasts of Europe generally, the grotesque shape of its body and its singular habits having attracted the attention of naturalists of all ages. To the North Sea fishermen this fish is known as the "monk," or "monkfish", a name which also belongs to Squatina squatina, the angelshark, a fish allied to the skates (see monkfish for discussion). The north European species is L. piscatorius, the more southern species L. budegassa. The head is of enormous size, broad, flat and depressed, the remainder of the body appearing merely like an appendage. The wide mouth extends all round the anterior circumference of the head; and both jaws are armed with bands of long pointed teeth, which are inclined inwards, and can be temporarily depressed so as to offer no impediment to an object gliding towards the stomach, while still preventing its escape from the mouth. The pectoral and ventral fins are so articulated as to perform the functions of feet, the fish being enabled "walk" on the bottom of the sea, where it generally hides itself in the sand or amongst seaweed. All round its head and also along the body, the skin bears fringed appendages resembling short fronds of seaweed. These structures, combined with the ability to change the colour of the body to match its surroundings, assists the fish greatly in concealing itself in its lurking places, which are selected for their abundance of prey. Lophius sp. have three long filaments sprouting from the middle of its head; these are the detached and modified three first spines of the anterior dorsal fin. As with all anglerfish species, the longest filament is the first, which terminates in an irregular growth of flesh, the esca, and is movable in all directions; this modified fin ray is used as a lure to attract other fishes, which the monkfish then seizes with its enormous jaws, devouring them whole. Experiments have shown, however, that whether the prey has been attracted to the lure or not is not strictly relevant, as the action of the jaws is an automatic reflex triggered by contact with the esca. Monkfish, like most anglerfish are also characterised by an enormously distensible stomach, which allows an individual monkfish to swallow prey fully as large as itself[citation needed]. Monkfish grow to a length of more than 150 cm (5 ft); specimens of 100 cm (3 ft) are common. The spawn of this genus is very remarkable. It consists of a thin sheet of transparent gelatinous material 60 - 100 cm (2 - 3 ft) wide and 8 - 10 m (25 - 30 ft) in length. The eggs in this sheet are in a single layer, each in its own little cavity. The spawn is free in the sea. The larvae are free-swimming and have the pelvic fins with elongated filaments. The British species is found all round the coasts of Europe but becomes scarce beyond 60° N. latitude; it occurs also on the coasts of the Cape of Good Hope. The species caught in North American waters is usually Lophius americanus. A third species (Lophius budegassa) inhabits the Mediterranean, and a fourth (L. setigerus) the coasts of China and Japan. There is concern over the sustainability of Monkfish fishing [1]. The method most commonly used to catch monkfish, beam trawling, has been described as damaging to seafloor habitats. In February 2007, the British supermarket chain ASDA banned monkfish from their stores Tags: rare fish from deep monstruous |

Paul Elias ShatterMORE VIDEOS WWW.ANGLER-SCHOOL.COM http://www.angler-school.com FISHING HOW TO VIDEOS!!!! 1000's FISHING VIDEOS!! @ ANGLER-SCHOOL.COM http://www.angler-school.com See story and pictures at http://www.lonestaroutdoornews.comWritten by ESPN Outdoors Photos by ESPN Outdoors Demolishing the four-day BASS heavyweight catch record, Paul Elias of Laurel, Miss., scored his sixth BASS victory in comeback fashion at the Bassmaster Elite Series' Lone Star Shootout on Falcon Lake besting his nearest competitor, Terry Scroggins of Palatka, Fla., by just 4 ounces. Aided by a 37-pound, 11-ounce Sunday catch, Elias jumped from fifth to first. His four-day total of 132 pounds, 8 ounces, demolished the previous record of 122 pounds, 14 ounces, set by Alabama's Steve Kennedy on California's Clear Lake in 2007. The top six anglers bested Kennedy's record.Though Elias took the victory, fish factory Falcon Lake also starred in the competition. The mainstream reservoir on the Rio Grande River with a surface area of 83,654 acres yielded catches of more than 100 pounds to all of the 12 anglers who qualified for the final day, an unprecedented accomplishment. With the victory, Elias takes the $100,000 top prize. "It was just one of those days," said Elias through tears. "I was struggling early and found a way to entice those bigger bass around 1:30." Primarily working a deep-diving crankbait the first three days of competition, Elias, the 1982Bassmaster Classic champion, mixed in a Mann¹s worm the final day. Sunday, Elias knew he was on the right fish, but he didn't identify the correct technique until later in the day. Switching up his presentation method, Elias threw from shallow to deeper water and was able to upgrade his weight inthe final hours of competition. "It just seems like everything is coming together lately," said Elias, 56. "I had the best day on the water I have experienced in 30 years of tournament fishing." Finishing runner-up by mere ounces was Scroggins, who totaled 132 pounds, 4 ounces. Scroggins ralliedhard on the final day, catching 44 pounds, 4 ounces, nearly an astounding 9-pound average per fish. But he came up short on two accounts; he missed out on the win and the record for BASS heaviest daily catch. That record, accomplished by Dean Rojas in 2001 on Florida's Lake Tohopekaliga, survived the weekend. Despite the banner day, Scroggins, 39, lamented the one he lost late in the competition. He estimated the bass weighed more than 10 pounds and would have certainly pushed him ahead of Elias. "I just can¹t forget about that fish," said Scroggins. "It's a shame. But I had a great tournament and an awesome morning that I will never forget." Scroggins was able to capitalize on the early bite, catching the majority of his fish in the first hour of competition. The five-time BASS winner used a Yum worm and a Carolina-rig throughout the competition. Staying in third was Byron Velvickof Del Rio, Texas, who totaled 131 pounds, 15 ounces. After leading the first three days of competition, Aaron Martens of Leeds, Ala., slipped to fourth, weighing only 19 pounds, 15 ounces Sunday. His four-day total was 129 pounds, 7 ounces. Failing to score his fifth BASS victory, Martens was frustrated with his final-day performance. He was plagued by boat pressure from other competitors all week and was optimistic his areas would hold up on the final day but ultimately fell short. Rounding out the top five was Mark Davis of Mt. Ida, Ark with 128 pounds, 15 ounces. Slipping from second, Davis was unable to match the final-day weights of the other competitors. In sixth was Scott Rook of Little Rock, Ark., with 125 pounds, 10 ounces. Although Rook was nearly 7 pounds behind Elias, he still beat out Kennedy's four-day heavyweight record and sits in third-place in the AOY standings, 13points behind Davis.
