Kali Just got inspired by marce1217 with her lovely Spanish version of this tune and had to do one myself. I played around with harmonies again in the second half - there are about 5 voices (all me) in the chorus. I just realised you can hardly hear the harmonies for some reason...even with headphones. I think a fair bit of quality gets lost in the compression stage - my MP3 sounds much better. :p framsam sent me a lovely comment so I thought I'd post it here: I have just watched your video of your version of the Tracy Chapman classic and wanted to post a comment - but they have been disabled. The comment would have been along the following lines:- "It is unusual for cover versions of well known and classic pieces to have the same impact or value as the original - amateur versions especially so. One gets a little weary of listening those songs we know and love so much getting utterly mangled. However here we have - I would not say unusual, so much as rare version that does the complete opposite. A beautiful voice used to such stunning effect enhances the original version. It pulls the emotional heartstrings in a way I did not think would be possible. Truly wonderful and thank you so much for sharing it with me and the rest of the world." OMG I can't believe how much of my day was spent trying to get this right, and in the end I still didn't get a very good video, hair in my mouth, cut off head, etc. Then the one that I thought sounded the best had the worst video, so I've done a bit of sloppy editing for the second half of this vid. Can't wait till I can afford better equipment - like a more powerful computer and a proper video camera - $aving $aving $aving... I never imagined I'd do a Justin Timberlake cover but I've just had a few weekends in a row going to nightclubs for some reason and this song of his gets played to death so it has grown on me. It's quite tricky to sing too since he has a bunch of back-up singers to help him so I have a new respect for his work after spending just a bit too much of my day trying to cover it...Lol The other voices are me too by the way. Just thought I'd play around with some harmonies for a change. Now to get the song out of my head... Answer to Buttertarts123 No, it's practise. It comes from singing along with everything you hear and getting an ear for it. I've even tried harmonizing with unlikely things like the drone of a machine, or the wind blowing constantly through a gap in the window. Everything that makes a sound has a pitch and every pitch has many possibilities for harmonies - and singing in harmony with other voices and things does something to you - you can feel the vibrations through your body when you are singing in harmony. (stop laughing if you have a dirty mind) They feel good when the harmony is right and not so good when the harmony is discordant. When you do it enough you start to get an instinct for when you are singing in tune with something or not. I can hear every single time that I sing out of tune where an untrained ear may not notice as much. The next trick is learning how to control your voice - something I'm still learning. And if you mean the software for recording, I use Garageband to record several vocal tracks (all me) on top of each other.
