Bach - Partita No.6 BWV 830 - 1-Toccata - Kuschnerova From Elena Kuschnerova's all-Bach recital in Baden-Baden on 22 March 2000, released on Elena's Bach CD, see http://elenakuschnerova.com . Sorry, this is only audio, and the quality of the youtube sound is uncomparable to what I've uploaded. I think they downgraded the audio to about 32 kbps. Seemingly they are running into storage space problems. Listen to this recording in the full quality at http://elenakuschnerova.com/classical-piano-video.htm . There also are long videos there that do not fit on youtube. Tags: classical piano bach partita BWV 830 kuschnerova |

Patricio Molina - Bach Partita No. 4 1/5 PATRICIO MOLINA, PIANIST A native of Chile, the 18- year-old pianist Patricio Molina made his debut at the tender age of three appearing with the Catholic University of Chile's Orchestra on the popular television program "Venga Conmigo" (come with me). Immediate following his appearance, Patricio was awarded a full scholarship by "Amigos del Teatro Municipal", the educational funding arm of the Municipal Theater of Santiago. This scholarship enabled Patricio to study free of charge in the School for the Arts within the University of Chile for the next ten years. During this time he won the "Claudio Arrau International Piano Competition" three times (I, II and III Level), and performed concerts in Germany, Jordan and throughout Chile. Upon his arrival in the United States in 2004, Patricio entered Manhattan School of Music where he is a full scholarship student in the studio of Dr. Marc Silverman, Chairman of the Conservatory's Piano Department. His talents were quickly recognized by the New York Times which described him as "a gifted young artist" when they heard his performance on the Symphony Space "Wall-to-Wall Stravinsky" program. In 2005, Patricio was awarded First Prize in the International Piano Competition of New as well the Grand Prize as the outstanding performer in all categories of the competition. As the winner of last season's Precollege Concerto Competition, Patricio performed Saint Saens's Concerto No. 2 in G minor with the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Orchestra. (pronounced [joˈhan/ˈjoːhan zeˈbastjan ˈbax]) (March 21, 1685 O.S. -- July 28, 1750 N.S.) was a German composer and organist whose sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra, and solo instruments drew together the strands of the Baroque period and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, an unrivalled control of harmonic and motivic organisation in composition for diverse musical forces, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France. Revered for their intellectual depth and technical and artistic beauty, Bach's works include the Brandenburg concertos; the Goldberg Variations; the English Suites, French Suites, Partitas, and Well-Tempered Clavier; the Mass in B Minor; the St. Matthew Passion; the St. John Passion; The Musical Offering; The Art of Fugue; the Sonatas and Partitas for violin solo; the Cello Suites; more than 200 surviving cantatas; and a similar number of organ works, including the celebrated Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. While Bach's fame as an organist was great during his lifetime, he was not particularly well-known as a composer. His adherence to Baroque forms and contrapuntal style was considered "old-fashioned" by his contemporaries, especially late in his career when the musical fashion tended towards Rococo and later Classical styles. A revival of interest and performances of his music began early in the 19th century, and he is now widely considered to be one of the greatest composers in the Western tradition. Bach Partita in B Flat 1,2 & 3 Harold Samuel Rec 1925 There were other pianists besides Edwin Fischer who were playing and recording Bach before Glenn Gould burst upon the scene. Two such pianists were Harold Samuel (born in London May 23,1879) and James Friskin. (1886-1967 Scotland). Both studied with Dannreuther who was a student of Moscheles. Both Samuels and Friskin play Bach in a less Romantic style than Fisher,Schnabel or Landowska and they seldom played transcriptions of Bach's music, which was the usual way Bach was played in those days. But if one had to choose between the above mentioned pianists (and harpsichordist) as to wo should receive the Bach Pioneer Award,it would have to be Harold Samuel. He made his debut in 1898 at the age of 19 playing Bach's Goldberg Variations,a work that most people of that time did not know existed. This was 35 years before the first recording of the work by Landowska in 1933 and 57 years before Glenn Gould at age 23,made his famous recording. (I believe Claudio Arrau was the first pianist to record the Goldberg in 1942). Unfortunately, Samuel never made a recording of the Goldberg Variatioons. Howevever,I have placed the Aria and first three variations performed by another Dannreuther student, James Friskin, on YouTube. But Samuel is responsible for the first recordings of many of Bach's works including the Chromatic Fantasie and Fugue (1923). Here he plays the Praeludium, Allemande and Courante from Bach's Partita No. 1 in B flat Major. This was the first recording of this work.(1925-26) A comparison of Samuel's performnce of the Courante and Friskin's playing of the Gigue from Bach's 5th French Suite show remarkable similarities in style. Harold Samuel died on January 15, 1937. Tags: Bach Partita Samuel |
