Green Tara - Swift Liberator The title of this video is that of the pre-Buddhist Goddess and Bodhisattva known to the Tibetan people as Drolma and throughout the world as Green Tara. This is mythopoetic journey into the archetypal imagery of the flag of independent Tibet. The soundtrack features the mantra of Green Tara - the personification of active compassion and all enlightened activity : aum tare tuttare ture svaha The central image is that of the snow-capped pyramid peak of Mount Kailash which is revered as the World Mountain and the Axis Mundi in the Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh and indigenous Bon-Po traditions. This has been created as a focus for visualization and devotional meditation using the techniques of Tantric Buddhist teaching. Mt. Kailash, like Delphi in Greece and Tara in Ireland and Uluru in Australia, represents the mythic World Mountain, the Axis Mundi - a natural kinetic archetype that represents the centre of all movement and which provides a connection and a means of moving and communication between the Three Worlds : the sky, the earth and the paradisal underworld - a concept that stretches right back to the cosmology of ancient shamanic totemism. The Navajo term for this mythic Navel of the World is "The Mountain Around Which All Moving is Done". The Navajo were always skilled codetalkers and their magic is the dynamic of the spoken word. Consider for one moment how the ceremonial sand-paintings of the Navajo are mirrored in the sand mandalas of Tibetan ritual practice. They are the temporary focus of energies which are dispersed to the Four Winds once their work is completed and the moment has passed. When we begin to retrace our roots we discover that we are still one people living on one planet and that we can rediscover the deep language of collective consciousness which is beyond words and finds it clearest expression in multi-layered poetic imagery. TIBET, Lhasa: Jokhang Temple Outside & Inside - Pirueye The Jokhang, (Tibetan: ཇོ་ཁང་; Wylie: Jo-khang; Chinese: 大昭寺; pinyin: Dàzhāosì), also called the Jokang, Jokhang Temple, Jokhang Monastery or Tsuklakang (gTsug lag khang) , is a famous Buddhist temple located on Barkhor Square in Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region, China. When it was originally built during the reign of king Songsten Gampo (605?-650 CE), it was called the Tsulag Khang or 'House of Wisdom' but it is now known as the Jokhang which means the 'House of the Lord'. For most Tibetans it is the most sacred and important temple in Tibet. Along with the Potala Palace, it is probably the most popular tourist attraction in Lhasa. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Historic Ensemble of the Potala Palace" and a spiritual centre of Lhasa. The Jokhang temple was constructed by King Songtsän Gampo (see also internet variant Songsten Gampo) probably in 642. It was originally called the Rasa Tulnang Tsuklakang or 'The House of Mysteries, The Magical Emanation at Rasa [the early name for Lhasa].' Both Bhrituti and Wencheng, the Nepalese and Chinese wives of Songsten Gampo brought important Buddhist images to Tibet as part of their dowries, and the were housed here. It was boarded up during the reign of the Bönpo king, Langdharma (reigned 838-841 CE). MAKING PRAYER FLAGS ABOUT PRAYER FLAGS OM MA NI PAD ME HUM When you hang them and don't allow the flags to torch the floor The hoisting of flags to ensure good fortune is one of the many customs within the nomadic communities of Tibet that have changed very little for several thousand years. However, the meaning of this ritual has gradually evolved from being of militaristic to religious significance. That the original use of flags in Tibet was militaristic is illustrated by the term Ru-dar or banner. Ru refers to gathering of nomads before moving on together to fresh pastures and thus, in an archaic sense this assembly referred to a kind of army. The banners (ru-dar) found in ancient literature were military flags. The flying of flags began to acquire religious significance in the Bon tradition and it may be observed that the actual design of the flags also gradually changed. In the corners of some of these flags were images of a tiger, a snow lion, a garuda, and a dragon, and in the center was a horse, around which was written a Bon mantra and a line which read, "May the horse of good fortune run fast and increase the power of life, influence, fortune, wealth, health, and so forth." This writing of mantras on cloth to produce a flag of religious significance can be traced to the immaculate g.Yung-drung-gtsang-ma-zhang-zhung, a collection of Bonpo teachings, which say that when a mantra is wrapped in five colored silk and placed high in the mountains, it will provide whoever sees it with the good fortune to become enlightened. If you attach a mantra wrapped in this way to the top of a victory banner and pray to it, worship it, and make precious offerings to it, then, according to tradition, you will accomplish all your goals. The meaning of this Bon mantra needs further investigation. Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. Tibetans believe the prayers and mantras will be blown upward as offerings to their deities and will bring benefits (such as happiness and good health) to all who hang them, as well as their families, loved ones, neighbors, and all people throughout the world including even enemies.
