El equipo de Sarandí empató dos veces un marcador adverso con un gol de Aníbal Matellán (m.31) y el primero de Alejandro Gómez (m.56), quien después se consagró al decretar la remontada a los 66 minutos en el mismo estadio donde la selección de Argentina conquistó el título mundial de 1986. El partido de vuelta de la final de la Copa Sudamericana se disputará el próximo miércoles 5 de diciembre en el estadio 'El Cilindro', de Buenos Aires. El paraguayo Salvador Cabañas sorprendió al minuto 5 con un gol de cabeza y Alejandro Argüello le dio al América el segundo que de poco le sirvió ante los errores de su defensa frente a unos rivales que siempre estuvieron al acecho. Fue un partido intenso, un mano a mano de goles y derroche físico que dejó en evidencia las decisiones controvertidas del árbitro paraguayo Ricardo Grance.
