Deanna Durbin - Silent Night From the movie "Lady on a Train" (1945) "Lady on a Train" is one of Durbin's better movies, especially among her later efforts. However, critics at the time were vicious with mostly negative reviews. They wouldn't let her grow - the demand was for her to play light comedy with lots of singing, and nothing else. However, the clever noir-comedy-murder mystery is well-received by critics today. Still, I have to hand it to Time magazine for the nastiest yet most hilarious review, especially in its description of this particular scene: "Lolling on a bed, she sings Silent Night to her father by long-distance telephone, while the camera treats her the way John Gilbert used to treat Garbo, in a manner that must be seen to be believed.
