DELROY WILSON - Halfway up the stairs - reggae 7" 45rpm Delroy Wilson sings an exuberant tune with a that was a hit in the late '70s - not sure what year. The way the notes climb in "halfway up the stairs" is literally like climbing up the stairs, step by step. Delroy's tunes are all about dancing, and this one does that. On the Observer label, produced by Sir niney. The copy I have the label is badly printed and the version side is blank. The vinyl is pretty good though. Nice n clean , no scrathes, but like all recycled Jamaican vinyl with all sorts of "bulking" materials added, like paper, the surface noise is a bit rough. A solid tune though by the Cool Operator. Delroy Wilson - Rain From The Sky Delroy Wilson was born in Trenchtown, Jamaica on October 5 1948. He released his first solo single "If I Had a Beautiful Baby" in 1962 for record producer, Clement "Coxsone" Dodd, at the age of thirteen. His classic song "Dancing Mood" remains one of the most popular Jamaican songs from the late 60s. In 1972, Jamaican Prime Minister Michael Manley and his People's National Party chose Wilson's "Better Must Come" as their election campaign song to increase their vote amongst the 'sufferers' in Jamaica. In 1994, Wilson was recognised by a special plaque awarded him by the Jamaican government for his enduring legacy to Jamaican music. Delroy Wilson died on 6 March 1995 at Kingston's UWI hospital from complications following a liver ailment associated with alcohol abuse. His music lives on!
