Samsung T9 Demonstrated A demonstration of what can be done with a Samsung YP-T9, BTW sounds is a bit of in this video, not in the videos that get uploaded to player, the player is perfect (for it's size and content quality, it's amazing). I can stick 100 videos, at 3 megs per minute, 3 minutes per video, in about 1 gig of space, and the other gig I could use to store about 200-300 mp3 or wma/drm files.. I have a subscription to Rhapsody Online (which kicks iTunes butt), I get a 15 dollar subscription, per month (compare that to XM subscriptions), I can download any song I want (few exceptions, like Led Zepplin, Eagles or Tracy Chapman, Beatles) I have The Who, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Weezer, TMBG, Coldplay, U2, Nora Jones, It really makes iTunes look weak once you consider you don't have to buy anything). And Rhapsody Online has everything arranged like VanGogh's musuem, everyone contemporary to the musician is linked to muscians profile, everyone influenced by musician, everyone the musician is influenced by, you can listen to playlists other people made that included the musician, you can listen by genre, etc.. Then download the files to the YP-T9 and listen to them anywhere..You have to re-sync the music every month, sometimes necessary to re-download the tunes but I think that is a bug with Rhapsody Online and Microsoft's PlayForSure format. But the YP-T9 is only like my third music player. I have the Sans M230 (which is the best sansa, IMHO), and before that a el cheapo Mach Trio from Tiger Direct with a 1 gig SD card (that I still use for Podcasts). I got the YP-T9 originally to play Audio Books, but it doesn't do too well with audio books.. I still have yet to find a really good audio book player.. But for Music Videos, it's the best I've experienced so far, and it feels like smooth rock, you could probably skip it pretty far across a lake (if you really don't like it that much), but it feels solid.. The Battery lasts up to 30 hours.. It charges with USB. The Voice recorder handles 32Kbps, 64Kbps, 96Kbps, 128Kbps mp3 RECORDING!, from FM radio or from Mic. Only qualm I have about that is there is no external input. The games are basically flash-based games. The whole interface is flash based to the player.. The FM radio has presets, as well as seek capability.. No AM, just FM. When play either videos or music, you can fast forward and rewind, which jumps faster the longer you hold the button down. Videos can be any length, I just like music videos. There is some kind of bookmarking feature for videos that I don't understand, but I suppose you could set a bookmark in a video to jump to. There is playlist support in the audio player, but haven't use it.. There is a text file viewer (email? on the go).. And a photo viewer.. If the device ever stalls there is a button combination (rec + menu) that will reset the player.. There are firmware upgrades, and the Samsung upgrade manager will notify you when they are available. I got one just last week.. It comes with a sync manager for the player, which is a little confusing, until you understand the interface. To convert videos you collect the videos into a bin (drag & drop), then you select all videos, and right-click on "transfer files to player", it then handles the transfer by attempting to encode the videos into it's own format.. It was through this process, that I realized that YT stores videos in mono.. But the player will play videos with stereo.. The audio player has a 3D sound mode that keeps music from sounding like a stereo in a small room, muffled and clausterphobic. You can for instance get the sound resonance of a club or hall.. It's just surround sound effects, not reverb, but it is effective.. The Equalizer is programmable, and has presets too. There as many power off features as there is for your computer, plus a sleep timer. And for music there is several "visualizer" modes, though really just flash animations.. But for me, what has made it "worth the money", is the quality of the video playback.. The Rhapsody music has also made it worth it.. To be able to see the album of the artist you are listening to.. I had a Sansa E250 for a day from Best Buy, and it failed on me, the YP-T9 was the player I was originally planning to buy but a Best Buy clerk encouraged me to get the Sansa.. The Sansa totally sucked, I can't remember why exactly, but if you want you can read about it in the November Blog ( http://tinyurl.com/ym2n35 ; see entry "(11/18/06 11:04 AM)" ) Note check out my blog at http://www.bl3nder.com/ for more information, I determined that "m4v" videos can be trasnfered to the T9, just rename "m4v" to "mp4". Also no word on how to transfer flash files to the player (even though Samsung implies that one can transfer them). Someone had this question: how do you put videos into the mp3...i have windows vista and it dosent let me install the program that came with the mp3 so i dont know how to put videos into my Yp t9... You are out of luck unless you can get the software working on Vista, Samsung should know about this.. But hopefully someone will figure out how to create samsung video files as they are only AVI files.. ---- You need samsung studio to convert video files and transfer them to the T9.. Examples of video files samsung studio accepts: AVI, WMV, MPG . For those looking to convert videos to work on their T9's.. I suggest getting a copy of "AVS Video Converter" (it has, I found out, aspect correction, batch video processing, and supports all the video formats, including quicktime formats), which is about 25 dollars, and look around "dvdshrink", it's a freeware application that can be used to rip dvd's to files.. You can use AVS Video Converter to convert these DVD files to AVI, WMV or MPG.. There is also ways to rip video content from YouTube, there are videos all over youtube outlining how to do this.. But AVS Video Converter doesn't convert FLV files, which is what format the YouTube videos are in.. You have to find a FLV video converter, but if you can get it into a WMV format, for instance, you can drop it directly into Samsung Media Studio without using AVS Video Converter.. If you are good with Firefox tabs, and have a reasonably fast computer, like a Pentium D, you can rip tens of youtube videos at a time.. Samsung YP-T9 demonstrated on a Olympus SP-510 UZ I decided to do another (actually a couple) of video demonstrations of the Samsung T9 mp3/video/photo/fm-radio player with voice and fm-radio recording capabilities. I cover the specifications more in detail in my previous demonstration.. Anyhow, I added to this demonstration, the close-range video recording capability of the Olympus SP 510 UZ digital camera (299 dollars from "Cirtcuit City"). I had originally purchased a Panasonic FZ7, which mysteriously got higher marks than the SP510 and had (at least for the camera I got) the worse image quality and video capture ability. The Image Stabilization on the Panasonic FZ7 couldn't hold a candle to the Olympus SP-510 UZ. Also my SP-510, through all the videos and photos I've taken with it, has been running off the same Panasonic (what a coincidence) Alkaline batteries that came in the camera's package, since Friday (6 days ago). For the record I've videotaped about 30-40 minutes of video at 640x480, and have taken at least 600 pictures since then. The SP-510 UZ uses digital stabilization, which is not so bad.. It seems that the camera uses a larger frame buffer than the video capture, and uses the extra space to frame the shot when the camera jumps. Using this theory, I've been able to keep shots stabil (avoiding shakes of more than 100 pixels), that seems to work.. If it jumps more than this, a jerk of a greater distance is produced. Anyhow, the SP-510 UZ (as mentioned in the video) uses MJPEG as a master video format (which is okay). MJPEG as a distribution format (as in the Sansa E2x0 mp3/video players) is not a good idea, that's where MPEG4 makes more sense.. That's why its better to get a DV cam than a camera that tapes to DVD-R's. DV cams that use tapes record to something like MJPEG, and tapes have greater surface area than a DVD, or even a memory chip. DVD-R Video recorders are best for speed of delivery, like a polaroid camera, but the quality of video is usually MPEG4 which is not a good master video format, but can compress more video into a smaller space.. Anyhow, this SP-510 UZ can store about ten minutes of video into a 1 Gigabyte card. That's 1 gig per minute, or about 16.66MB/sec, or 555K per frame (640x480, Yowsa!! What a master format!).. Though this is awful for compression, it's great for archival and video editing. The SP-510 UZ, like it's C-750 cousin, has 10x optical zoom, with a optional Super Macro Mode that allows it to get within 3cm of it's subject keeping the subject in focus. So knowing this, I thought "great!! I will re-demonstrate the Samsung T9 with the SP-510 UZ.. The only drawback is that Olympus SP-510 UZ comes with the worst sound resolution for recording audio with the video: 7.8Khz PCM (63kbps, the worst use of bits for audio compression, mpeg audio is CD-quality at this data rate, at least for mono, but Olympus went el-cheapo on the audio quality of a digital answering machine). If you do do professional projects and are not demonstrating the only YP-T9 you have.. The audio record capability of the T9 should do well for a professional dub. Note, if you need a better microphone to record with, on the T9, try using a microphone with a headphone jack, and a audio amplifier, connect that to a FM transmitter, and you can record the audio with the T9.. Or you could just get a video camera.. I doubt you will find an affordable video camera that takes 7.1 megapixel images with a 10x zoom, nor a digital camera that takes DV-quality video with CD-quality audio.. It seems the japanese intentionally cripple products to avoid competition between product lines (to maximize ROI on products). See to have image stabilization on a video camera, you need to capture video at a higher resolution (eg. HD), so the SP-510 UZ could potentially offer HD quality video capture, but that would ruin any future investment Olympus has in HD-quality products.. Still for what the device can do, it's a lot of value for 300 dollars, as compared with other digital cameras. Hey, I wouldn't be suprised if the CEO's of Panansonic, Sony, Olympus, and such go to the same sake bar everynight and negotiate their plans.. I'm a little bit tired of waiting for HD quality video on low-end consumer level products.. If it's a matter of bus-rate guys, just make the bus wider and use two or even three memory cards instead of one.. There is no excuse for it.. Tags: Olympus SP-510 UZ Samsung Yepp T9 YP-T9 Demo |

Combat sports to be demonstrated at remodeled Braintree gym As a tae kwon do champion, Marcellino Amaro showed no hesitation in snapping off a series of lightening lightning-fast kicks and punches around the head and torso of Jay Brooks. Amaro was also willing to be tossed around and run through a series of submission moves by the smaller Brooks, a judo and jujitsu champion himself. But the Braintree resident still gets a little uneasy remembering his training sessions with boxing trainers Tim Stanton and Tim Fitzgerald. "They're the only ones that got me close to puking," joked Amaro, 40, who recently won the Worcester Classic. "But it was a humbling experience. It was great." Despite the competitive nature of their sports, the four men consider themselves good friends. And all four teach their trades at the sprawling Bayshore Athletic Club in Braintree. The instructors are teaming up to host a combat sports night at the athletic club tomorrow night from 7:30 to 9:30. Students from the three clubs the men run -- T-N-T Boxing, Strictly All Contact Tae Kwon Do, and Phoenix Judo, will be demonstrating skills from the sports. "This is the only gym around that has all three disciplines in one place," said Brooks, 38, of Quincy, and the head instructor with of the Phoenix Judo club. The demonstration will also be a celebration of sorts. Brooks recently finished building a 1,400-square-foot tournament-quality instruction area in the back corner of the athletic club. He previously taught classes in a snug corner near the boxing ring. And with the judo classes relocated, Stanton, 40, of Braintree, and Fitzgerald, 50, of Quincy, have expanded their facility area to include a number of new heavy bags and other equipment. Amaro teaches his classes in a gymnasium area in the front of the fitness center. The centerpiece of their area, however, is the boxing ring, which Stanton says is part of sports lore. Stanton He says the ring is from the second Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali)/Sonny Liston fightll,ll in Lewiston, Mainell,ll in 1965. He said a friend, Peter deLuca, bought it at an auction and keeps it at the athletic club. Combat sports, such as judo and jujitsu, are growing in popularity, aided by the recent success of mixed martial arts leagues and reality shows. The sports are also becoming an increasingly attractive option for gym rats searching for a good workout but tired of running on a treadmill or pedaling a stationary bike. The clubs aren't just for ultimate fighter-wannabes; the instructors say their classes are open to anyone of any age and skill level. Team Fortress 2 (TF2) Gameplay; EVERYTHING demonstrated! High-Quality Version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynrF2es08ds&fmt=18 I was in the Team Fortress 2 beta and people were interested in what the game contained, so I took a load of footage in one take of me trying everything out for the first time. I demonstrate pretty much everything apart from the Spy's sentry-destroying sapper, and the Spy's invisibility ability. For those interested, the beta was pretty much identical to the final game. However, the final game has since enjoyed the addition of new maps and weapons. The music at the beginning is 'Pass It On' by The Coral. The music at the end is 'End of the Road' by Sentenced. Rockets used by Chinese against the Mongols in 1232 during the battle of Kai-Keng. Tseng Kung-Liang, an official of the Chinese goverment, penned a comprehensive account of gunpowder's application to weapons in 1045 (Song Dynasty, 960-1279) It was called "Wu-ching Tsung-yao" (Complete Compendium of Military Classics), and it detailed the use of ballistic fire arrows. The first writings on this in the west is found in the military writings of al-Hasan al-Rammah (1285), when Arabs began using gunpowder propelled fire arrows in combat.
