They have been cited as an influence on many heavy metal musicians and bands. Their popularity and status as one of the definitive heavy metal bands has earned them the nickname "Metal Gods", from their song of the same name.[1] They have sold over 35 million albums worldwide...For Painkiller (1990) Judas Priest returned to a more straightforward heavy metal style with more technical and double-bass drumming from new member Scott Travis. This album represents one of the heaviest and most intense in the band's discography, with Halford's trademark high-pitched wail rising to an ear-splitting shriek on certain tracks, bordering on an atonal black-metal-like scream. Indeed, Florida death metal band Death have even covered the title track on their album The Sound of Perseverance. The Best of Judas Priest: Living After Midnight (1997) is a greatest hits album including hits such as "Electric Eye", "Turbo Lover", "Living After Midnight", "The Green Manalishi (With the Two-Pronged Crown" and many others. It contains hit songs from 1979 through 1990. Judas Priest also released two albums with Tim 'Ripper' Owens following Rob Halford's departure. Jugulator (1997) was given mixed reviews, although it contains the epic "Cathedral Spires" which became one of Ripper's more popular songs. Demolition (2001) was generally considered another disappointment, although it was another "back to the basics" album, holding some memorable tracks. Judas Priest's last release, Angel of Retribution (2005) which was Rob Halford's first Judas Priest album since 1990, contributed to the current revival of classic heavy metal. It contains songs in the band's classic style, such as "Judas Rising" and "Hellrider", as well as mid-tempo songs with clear and prominent drums and less prominent guitars ("Worth Fighting For", "Wheels of Fire"), a ballad ("Angel"), and the epic ("Lochness") which runs 13:28, a length of song the band had not done since its concerts in the early 1970s. VH1 Rock Honors Along with Kiss, Queen, and Def Leppard, Judas Priest were the inaugural inductees into the "VH1 Rock Honors." The ceremony took place May 25, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and first aired on May 31, 2006. Their presentation was preceded by the band Godsmack performing a medley of "Electric Eye"/"Victim of Changes"/"Hell Bent for Leather", and Priest themselves played "Breaking the Law", "The Green Manalishi (With The Two-Pronged Crown)" and "You've Got Another Thing Comin'", before which Halford rode a Harley onstage. On April 6, 2006, the Associated Press announced the event by saying "the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame looks to be getting some competition."Judas Priest have influenced all metal music since the late-mid 70s either directly or indirectly. Their influence was so important that MTV.com named Judas Priest the second most important band in heavy metal, just behind Black Sabbath.[21] In addition to the sound, Judas Priest were also known for being the revolutionaries in the heavy metal fashion. Rob Halford began incorporating a macho/biker/S&M style into his look as early as 1978 (to coincide with the release of their album Killing Machine), and the rest of the band followed. It became a mainstay in heavy metal; soon, Saxon were wearing spandex; several other bands, particularly of the NWOBHM and early black metal movements, began incorporating Halford's fashion into their look as well.[22] This sparked a revival in metal in the early 80's, and catapulted them to fame, in both the mainstream and underground. Even in the present, it is not uncommon to find metal artists sporting such a look at concerts. DirtyBlack - Battery (Metallica Cover) Metallica - Battery Master of Puppets (1984--1986) Elektra Records A&R director Michael Alago, and co-founder of Q-Prime Management Cliff Burnstein, attended a September 1984 Metallica concert. Impressed with what they saw, they signed Metallica to Elektra Records and made the band a client of Q-Prime Management.[15] Metallica's burgeoning success was such that the band's British label Music for Nations issued a limited edition Creeping Death EP, which sold 40,000 copies as an import in the U.S. Two of the three songs on the record (cover versions of Diamond Head's "Am I Evil?", and Blitzkrieg's "Blitzkrieg") appeared on the 1989 Elektra reissue of Kill 'Em All.[16] Metallica embarked on its first major European tour with Tank to an average crowd of 1,300. Returning to the U.S. marked a tour co-headlining with W.A.S.P. and Armored Saint supporting. Metallica played its largest show at the Monsters of Rock festival on August 17, 1985, with Bon Jovi and Ratt at Donington Park in England, playing in front of 70,000 people. A show in Oakland, California, at the Day on the Green festival saw the band play in front of a crowd of 60,000. Metallica's third studio album, Master of Puppets was recorded at Sweet Silence Studios and was released in March 1986. The album peaked at number 29 on the Billboard 200, and spent 72 weeks on the chart.[17] The album was the band's first to be certified gold on November 4, 1986, and was certified six times platinum in 2003.[3] Some critics, including Steve Huey of All Music Guide, consider the album to be the "greatest heavy metal album of all time", and earned Metallica the title of the "pioneers of thrash metal".[18] Following the release of the album, Metallica supported Ozzy Osbourne for a U.S. tour.[15] Hetfield broke his wrist skateboarding down a hill and continued the tour performing vocals, with guitar technician John Marshall playing rhythm guitar Master of Puppets is the third album by American thrash metal band Metallica. The album was recorded in 1985[3] and released by Elektra Records on March 26, 1986 (see 1986 in music) in North America. The album reached number twenty-nine on the U.S. Billboard 200, and has to date sold over six million copies in U.S. alone. It was the last album the band recorded with bass player Cliff Burton and is considered a landmark in the history of heavy metal. Battery" is the opening track of Metallica's 1986 album Master of Puppets. As with the opening track from Ride the Lightning, Battery begins with a slow, clean guitar part. In this case, as many as four acoustic guitars are layered harmonically before the drums and bass come in with distorted guitars playing a more melodic version of the acoustic part. This lasts until 1:06, when the guitars cut into a very fast minimalist thrash metal riff that is the basis for the rest of the song. In live concerts, the beginning is not played by the band but instead the actual recording is used (recently dropped 1/2 step in key, since the band tunes 1/2 step down). In keeping with the general "control" theme of Master of Puppets, the lyrics of "Battery" discuss the control that anger can have over one's behavior. The title refers to "battery" in the sense of "assault and battery", as shown by these lyrics: "Smashing through the boundaries / Lunacy has found me / Cannot stop the battery". The song is an indirect tribute to the Old Waldorf Club in San Francisco on Battery street.Battery is still an almost constant part of the band's live set list, frequently as the opening or closing song. In some cases, it is also used as a song before the intermission. When played, the song may stop before the interlude, and James Hetfield asks the crowd "Are you alive?... How does it feel to be alive?" and followed by the solo played by Kirk Hammett. During the chorus of the original version, bassist Cliff Burton can be heard roaring the backing vocals each time Hetfield says the title. In the live version of the song played on the Live Shit: Binge & Purge album, intros to the songs "No Remorse", "Ride the Lightning", and "So What?" are played in the song. When performed with the San Francisco Symphony in 1999, the intro up to the thrash riff was instead played by string players in the symphony, utilizing pizzicato in the beginning (the original acoustic) then with bows for the rest. The song "The Bitter End" from Sum 41 is very close to the song song was covered by Eric AK (Flotsam & Jetsam), Dave Lombardo, Mike Clark, and Robert Trujillo for Metallic Assault: A Tribute to Metallica. Dave Lombardo .This song (along with the entire Master of Puppets album) was covered by Dream Theater as part of their world tour in 2002 and has been released as an official Bootleg recording. This song was covered by the band Machine Head for Kerrang!'s Master of Puppets: Remastered, and is also included as a bonus track on some versions of their album The Blackening. Testament The Truth About Seafood Megadeth Website Slayer.net Members Tom Araya Jeff Hanneman Kerry King Dave Lombardo Former members Paul Bostaph Jon Dette Tony Scaglione Slayer is an American thrash metal band founded by guitarists Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King.[2] Slayer rose to fame as a leader of the American thrash metal movement with their 1986 release, Reign in Blood, which has been called "the heaviest album of all time" by Kerrang!.[3] The band is credited as one of the "Big Four" thrash metal bands, along with Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth.[4] Slayer is known for its musical traits, involving fast tremolo picking, guitar solos, double bass drumming, and shouting vocals. The band's lyrics and album art, which cover topics such as gore, serial killers, Satanism, religion and warfare have generated album bans, delays, lawsuits and strong criticism from religious groups and the general public. Since its debut record in 1983, the band has released two live albums, one box set, two DVDs, one VHS, two EPs, and ten albums, four of which have received gold certification in the United States. The band has received three Grammy nominations, winning one in 2007 for the song "Eyes of the Insane", and headlined music festivals worldwide, including Ozzfest, The Unholy Alliance and the Download Festival. Slayer released its first live home video in 1985, dubbed Combat Tour: The Ultimate Revenge. The video featured live footage filmed at New York's Studio 54 club, on the band's 1984 tour with Venom and Exodus. By early 1985, Show No Mercy had sold over 40,000 copies,[8] which led to the band returning to the studio to record a second full length album. Metal Blade financed a recording budget, which allowed the band to hire producer Ron Fair.[2] Music sample: "Hell Awaits" (1985) "Hell Awaits" features a backwards recording of a demonic voice saying "Join us" and "Welcome Back". Problems listening to the file? See media help. Released in September 1985, Slayer's second full length release Hell Awaits expanded on the darkness of Haunting the Chapel, with Hell and Satan as common song subjects. The album was the band's most progressive offering, featuring longer and more complex song structures.[2] The intro is a backwards recording of a demonic-sounding voice repeating "Join us," ending with "Welcome Back" before the track begins.[15] [edit] Reign in Blood (1986--1987) Following the success of Hell Awaits, Slayer was offered a recording contract with Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin's newly founded Def Jam Records, a largely rap-based label.[2] The band accepted and with an experienced producer and major label recording budget, the band underwent a sonic makeover resulting in shorter, faster songs with clearer production. Gone were the complex arrangements and long songs featured on Hell Awaits, ditched in favor of stripped down, hardcore influenced song structures.[2] Def Jam's distributor, Columbia Records, refused to release the album Reign in Blood due to its graphic cover art and lyrical themes.[2] For example, "Angel of Death" detailed Holocaust concentration camps and the human experiments conducted by Nazi physician Josef Mengele. The album was distributed by Geffen Records on October 7, 1986. However, due to the controversy, Reign in Blood did not appear on Geffen Records' release schedule.[2] Although the album received virtually no radio airplay, it became the band's first to enter the Billboard 200, debuting at #94,[16] and the band's first album certified gold in the United States.[17] In October 1986, Slayer embarked on the Reign in Pain world tour, with Overkill in the US, and Malice in Europe. The band was added as the opening act on W.A.S.P.'s US tour, but just one month in, drummer Lombardo left the band: "I wasn't making any money. I figured if we were gonna be doing this professionally, on a major label, I wanted my rent and utilities paid."[2] To continue with the tour, Slayer enlisted Tony Scaglione of Whiplash. However, Lombardo's wife convinced Dave to return in 1987.[2] At the insistence of Rubin, Slayer recorded a cover version of Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" for the film Less Than Zero.[2] Although the band was not happy with the final product, Hanneman deeming it a poor representation of Slayer and King labeling it "a hunk of shit", it was one of their first songs to garner radio airplay. DirtyBlack - Harvester of Sorrow (Metallica Cover) http://www.myspace.com/buraklacinel http://www.myspace.com/dirtyblackthrash Single by Metallica from the album ...And Justice For All B-side Breadfan The Prince Released 1988 Format CD single Recorded January - May 1988 at "One On One" Studios in Los Angeles, California Genre Thrash metal Length 5:45 Label Vertigo Records Writer James Hetfield Lars Ulrich Producer Metallica Flemming Rasmussen "Harvester of Sorrow" is the sixth song from the Metallica album ...And Justice for All. Consistent with the whole album, the lyrics are harsh and serious. Various theories regarding the meaning of the lyrics have circulated among Metallica fans. Themes posted on message boards have included abortion, slavery and the idea of a "Harvester" as a symbolic figure pushing mankind to commit terrible deeds. Another theory about this song is that Hetfield wrote this about his feelings for his father and how he felt his father's alcoholism tore his family apart.[citation needed] It is also possible that this song was written in reference to the Ukrainian Famine/Genocide which is often referred to as the "Harvest of Sorrow" by academics (and was the title of Robert Conquest's classic book on the subject). Soviets took Ukrainian crops which caused them to starve. Lyrics that may refer to this include "I give / You take" and "Pure black looking clear / My work is done soon here / Try getting back to me / Get back which used to be". ('Black' may be a reference to the 'Black Earth' -- in Russian: 'Chernozyem' -- area that was and is the region's bread basket.)[citation needed] They debuted this song live prior to the release of ...And Justice for All while on the summer Monsters of Rock Tour in 1988 with Van Halen, The Scorpions, Dokken and Kingdom Come. The song is a fan favorite and a staple of the Metallica live set. Coming out of the dual melody solo between Hammett and Hetfield, there is a considerable pause which, during live shows, Hetfield takes time to audibly cough and spit before going into the line "All have said their prayers." During live performances there is an extended silence before the band returns to the song. Marvel comics paid tribute to the song when they used the name for a fictional superweapon in the comic book event annihilation "Harvester of Sorrow" plays over the PA at U.S. Cellular Field when Chicago White Sox slugger Paul Konerko comes to bat. ...And Justice for All (1988--1990) ...And Justice for All, the first studio album since Burton's death, was released in 1988. The album was a massive commercial success, reaching number six on the Billboard 200, the band's first album to enter the top 10.[16] The album was certified platinum only nine weeks after its release.[17] Newsted's bass was purposely turned down on the album as a part of the continuous "hazing" he received, and his musical ideas were ignored out of disrespect. There were other complaints with the production; namely, Steve Huey of All Music Guide noted Ulrich's drums were clicking more than thudding, and the guitars "buzz thinly".[18] The Damaged Justice tour followed to promote the album.[19] In 1989, Metallica received its first Grammy Award nomination for ...And Justice for All, in the newly created Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Vocal or Instrument category. Metallica was the favorite to win; however, the award was given to Jethro Tull for the album Crest of a Knave.[20] The result generated controversy among fans and the press, as Metallica was standing off-stage waiting to receive it after performing the song "One". Jethro Tull had been advised by their manager not to attend the ceremony as he was expecting Metallica to win.[20] The award was named in Entertainment Weekly's "Grammy's 10 Biggest Upsets".[21] Three years later, Ulrich referred to the award when accepting a Grammy for "Enter Sandman" stating "We gotta thank Jethro Tull for not putting out an album this year".[22] Following the release of ...And Justice for All, Metallica embraced the mainstream music world with the debut music video for the song "One". The band performed the song in an abandoned warehouse, and footage was remixed with the film, Johnny Got His Gun. Rather than organize an ongoing licensing deal, Metallica purchased the rights to the film. The remixed video was submitted to MTV, with the alternate performance-only version held back in the event that MTV banned the remix version. MTV accepted the remix version, and the video was viewers' first exposure to Metallica. It was voted number 38 in 1999 when MTV aired its "Top 100 Videos of All Time" countdown,[23] and was featured in the network's 25th Anniversary edition of ADD Video, which showcased the most popular videos on MTV in the last 25 years Tags: James Hetfield Lars Ulrich Kirk Hammeth Jason Newsted Cliff Burton Dave Mustaine load Porn Fuck Erotic Blowjob lesson |

They are widely credited as the creators of the death metal genre, from the release of their first demo in 1984. The band's label debut Scream Bloody Gore is considered a template of the genre, described as death metal's first archetypal document.[1] Schuldiner was the only member to remain in the band from start to end. Music biographers have referred to Schuldiner as the father of death metal In 1993, Reinert and Masvidal left the group to continue with Cynic, Schuldiner being unable to persuade them otherwise. Schuldiner replaced them with Gene Hoglan of the recently dissolved thrash metal band Dark Angel, and worked with guitarist Andy LaRocque from King Diamond for Individual Thought Patterns. LaRocque being obligated to his band, Schuldiner hired a then-unknown Ralph Santolla as touring guitarist. Death was arguably at the peak of their commercial and popular culture success, and the video for the track The Philosopher, a lyrical slam against former guitarist Masvidal,[3] even made it on to a Beavis & Butt-head episode in 1994 (Beavis also parodies Schuldiner's vocals in a mock 'drive-thru' order of 'tacos, to go!' in death-metal style). Also in 1994, Death abandoned their eight year relationship with Relativity and signed with Roadrunner Records, their European distributor. For 1995's Symbolic, Santolla and DiGiorgio were exchanged for underground Florida musicians Kelly Conlon and Bobby Koelble. For the Symbolic tour Brian Benson was brought in on bass (Conlon having left the band prior to the tour due to conflicts with Schuldiner). After Symbolic, Schuldiner dissolved the band and all ties with Roadrunner and began writing songs for Control Denied. It was during this time that Schuldiner briefly worked with Florida studio guitarist James Hogan. Schuldiner was still contractually obligated to record an album under Nuclear Blast with Death, and so he used several songs that were intended to be used for Control Denied, as several song titles on The Sound of Perseverance were originally Control Denied song titles. He re-formed Death with Florida musicians Richard Christy, Shannon Hamm and Scott Clendenin to record 1998's The Sound of Perseverance with his new label Nuclear Blast. After the album and two supporting tours, Schuldiner dissolved Death to pursue Control Denied with Christy and Hamm. Clendenin was dropped in favor of Steve DiGiorgio, who was once again available, and an underground power metal singer named Tim Aymar. As Schuldiner finished Control Denied's debut album, he was diagnosed with brain cancer, forcing the band to scrap plans for a US and Canadian tour. As he worked on the second release, Schuldiner's condition improved, but the tumor left him in a weakened, vulnerable state. He contracted pneumonia and was placed in the hospital. He was released and returned home where, one hour later, Schuldiner died on December 13, 2001 The Sound of Perseverance is the seventh and final studio album released by Death in 1998. This album, in particular, employs a style more akin to progressive metal than the earliest Death releases, although since Human and the albums following it, the band had been developing more toward this style. The average song time on this album is around 6 minutes long. It is rumored that some of the song names and music on The Sound of Perseverance were originally going to appear on the first Control Denied album. Schuldiner himself denied this in an interview with Metal Maniacs in 1998 by saying that none of his compositions for Control Denied had been used to fill space for a Death album. When Death was signed on to Nuclear Blast, Chuck agreed to make one last Death album before moving forward with Control Denied. "Spirit Crusher" was the single from this album. It featured a music video that was shot live. Tags: Flesh and the Power it Holds Chuck Schuldiner Richard Christy Live in L.A xxx porn fuck erotic Howard Stern clinic ajdar |

They originally started under the name Tormentor. Starting their career in 1982, they played thrash metal with Venom influences.[1] The band is also influenced by Slayer[2], Metallica[2], Mercyful Fate[2] and Bathory[2] music. Their style of music is similar to their compatriots Destruction and Sodom, the other two big German thrash metal bands. All three of these bands are often credited with helping create death metal, by containing a few elements of what was to become death metal.[3] Kreator's work has been consistently in the vein of pure thrash, with the exception of three albums (Renewal, Cause for Conflict and Outcast) during the 1990s when they undertook serious experimentation. Incorporating industrial, goth and avant-garde elements into their sound, the results were uneven in some fans' and also critics' eyes. DirtyBlack - Territory (Sepultura Cover) http://myspace.com/dirtyblackthrash http://myspace.com/buraklacinel Sepultura is a Brazilian heavy metal band, formed in 1984. Their name means "grave" in Portuguese, which they chose after Max Cavalera, one of the founding members, was translating the lyrics of the Motörhead song "Dancing on Your Grave". Origin Belo Horizonte, Brazil Genre(s) Black metal (early)[1] Death metal[2] Thrash metal[3] Groove metal[4] Years active 1984--present Label(s) Cogumelo Records Roadrunner Records SPV Records Associated acts Soulfly Nailbomb Cavalera Conspiracy Members Andreas Kisser Derrick Green Paulo Jr. Jean Dolabella Former members Wagner Lamounier Max Cavalera Igor Cavalera Jairo Guedes Chaos A.D. is an album released in October 1993 by Sepultura through Roadrunner Records. Though the band experienced success previously, Chaos A.D. was their breakthrough album. Chaos A.D. displayed a more groove-driven direction which helped usher the then-forming groove metal genre. This was viewed as a departure from the thrash metal and death metal styling of their earlier efforts. The band also included an acoustic, percussion-led instrumental called "Kaiowas" on the album. This became an interesting focus of later live shows, with the band joining fellow bands onstage, and sometimes featured group drum playing. The album showcased a collaboration with Dead Kennedys' Jello Biafra ("Biotech Is Godzilla") and Evan Seinfeld of Biohazard ("Slave New World"), as well as a cover version of New Model Army's "The Hunt". The song, Refuse/Resist, was featured on one of Manga Entertainment's 90's VHS trailers containing Genocyber, Cyber City Oedo 808, Urotsukidoji, Devilman, Akira among others. The album has sold over 450,000 copies. Sepultura was formed in Belo Horizonte in 1984 by Max Cavalera (rhythm guitar), his younger brother Igor Cavalera (drums), Paulo Pinto (bass), Jairo Guedes (lead guitar) and Wagner Lamounier (vocals). Sepultura signed to Cogumelo Records after a few years of performing. Lamounier left the band without recording on a demo due to differences in ideologies. Max took over as vocals later on. Their first EP was Bestial Devastation, a split with Overdose's album on the flipside. Their first LP was Morbid Visions (1986), which included the moderate hit "Troops of Doom" that attracted the band some attention. Both albums are nowadays regarded as early milestones in the establishment of death metal. After Morbid Visions, Jairo Guedes left the band for another thrash metal venture and Sao Paulo based guitarist Andreas Kisser replaced him. Their second full-length album was Schizophrenia, which was a critical success that led them to being contracted to Roadrunner Records. With Roadrunner distributing Schizophrenia worldwide, Sepultura reached new audiences of metal fans. This was cemented by 1989's Beneath the Remains, which is hailed as one of the best thrash albums of the late 1980s. It was followed by a long European and American tour. Their first US show was October 31, 1989 at the Ritz in New York City, opening for King Diamond. By the time they released 1991's Arise, Sepultura were located in Phoenix, Arizona and had become one of the most critically-praised metal bands of the time, in spite of a lack of mainstream success. This was changed by Chaos A.D. (1993), which saw a departure from the traditional thrash style, now mixing it with groove metal elements. Though generally regarded as a sell-out by thrash fans[citation needed], the album helped form the groove metal genre and saw Sepultura achieve recognition beyond the thrash metal community. They continued with this on 1996's Roots, in which the band further innovated by experimenting with elements from the music of Brazil's indigenous peoples and traditional thrash, with a slower, downtuned alternative metal sound. The title track is probably the band's best-known song, and often a staple at live shows. In parallel, in 1994, Max and Igor, aided by Alex Newport of Fudge Tunnel, recorded a more industrial LP, Point Blank, under the name Nailbomb. Nailbomb played a full set live only once, mostly the same tracks as on the album, and the performance was released as Proud to Commit Commercial Suicide. Nailbomb also played selected tracks live on Sepultura's 1994 tour with guests Fudge Tunnel. In 1996, Sepultura played on the Ozzfest main stage alongside Ozzy Osbourne, Slayer, Danzig, Biohazard, and Fear Factory. Formed when drummer Lars Ulrich posted an advertisement in a local newspaper, Metallica's original line-up consisted of Ulrich, rhythm guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, lead guitarist Dave Mustaine, and bassist Ron McGovney. McGovney and Mustaine were later kicked out of the band, and guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Cliff Burton replaced them. The ejection of Mustaine resulted in a long-running feud between Metallica and his band Megadeth. In 1986, Metallica's tour bus skidded out of control, and Burton was crushed under the bus and was killed. Jason Newsted replaced him, although he left the band in 2001 and was replaced by Robert Trujillo in 2003. Metallica rose to fame with its 1991 self-titled album Metallica, and critics say the 1986 release Master of Puppets is one of the most influential and "heaviest" thrash metal albums. The band has released eight studio albums, two live albums, two EPs, nine videos, and is working on a ninth studio album. Metallica is credited as one of the "big four" thrash metal bands, along with Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth. A lawsuit in 2001 was filed against Napster for sharing the band's copyrighted material for free without the members' consent. A settlement was reached, and Napster became a pay-to-use service. Metallica has become one of the most commercially successful and influential musical acts. With over 90 million records sold worldwide, including 57 million in the United States, the band has won seven Grammy Awards, and topped the Billboard 200 four times. The band's 1991 album, Metallica, has sold over 14 million copies, which makes it the 25th highest selling album in the United States. Early Metallica releases included fast tempos, instrumentals and aggressive musicianship. When producer Bob Rock was hired in 1990, the band changed its musical direction for a more commercial approach. With the release of Load in 1996, Metallica distanced itself from earlier releases in what has been described as "an almost alternative [rock] approach", and the band faced accusations of "selling out". The release of St. Anger in 2003 disappointed some critics and fans with the exclusion of guitar solos, the "steel-sounding" snare drum, and the "raw and unpolished" feel to the album. Master of Puppets (1984--1986) Elektra Records A&R director Michael Alago, and co-founder of Q-Prime Management Cliff Burnstein, attended a September 1984 Metallica concert. Impressed with what they saw, they signed Metallica to Elektra Records and made the band a client of Q-Prime Management.[8] Metallica's burgeoning success was such that the group's British label Music for Nations issued a limited edition Creeping Death EP, which sold 40,000 copies as an import in the U.S. Two of the three songs on the record (cover versions of Diamond Head's "Am I Evil?", and Blitzkrieg's "Blitzkrieg") appeared on the 1989 Elektra reissue of Kill 'Em All.[9] Metallica embarked on its first major European tour with Tank to an average crowd of 1,300. Returning to the U.S. marked a tour co-headlining with W.A.S.P., and Armored Saint supporting. Metallica played its largest show at the Monsters of Rock Festival on August 17, 1985, with Bon Jovi and Ratt at Donington Park in England, playing in front of 70,000 people. A show in Oakland, California, at the Day on the Green festival saw the band play in front of a crowd of 60,000.[8] Master of Puppets was recorded at Sweet Silence Studios and was released in March, 1986. The album peaked at number 29 on the Billboard 200, and spent 72 weeks on the chart.[10] The album was the band's first to be certified gold on November 4, 1986, and was certified 6x platinum in 2003.[11] Some critics, including Steve Huey of All Music Guide, consider the album to be the "greatest heavy metal album of all time".[12] Following the release of the album, Metallica supported Ozzy Osbourne for a U.S. tour.[8] Hetfield broke his wrist skateboarding down a hill and continued the tour performing vocals, with guitar technician John Marshall playing rhythm guitar Tags: Metallica Orion Cliff Burton James Hetfield Lars Ulrich Kirk Hammett Jason Newsted Master of Puppets Rob Trujillo Stunts |

The lyrics were written by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Max Cavalera; and are about refusing/resisting authority. The intro to the song is the heartbeat of Max's unborn son Zion. This song is also notable for having a 20 second growl at the end. This song was featured on 1 of Manga Entertainment's 90's VHS trailers containing a range of anime eg. Rapp Soulfly are an American heavy metal band from Phoenix, Arizona formed in 1997. Led by founder, frontman, songwritter and only constant member Max Cavalera, the band has released five studio albums, one tour EP, and one DVD video. Soulfly incorporates thrash metal, groove metal, and nu metal with Brazilian tribal music, and world music. The band has had all five of their studio albums debut on the United States Billboard 200, with a peak position at number 32 with their second album Primitive, and the band's debut album, Soulfly, has been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. Brazilian thrash metal singer Max Cavalera formed Soulfly after he left the band Sepultura in 1996. He recruited a lineup of Roy Mayorga on drums (formerly of Thorn), Jackson Bandeira on guitar (formerly of Chico Science & Nação Zumbi) and former Sepultura roadie Marcello D. Rapp (Marcello Diaz formerly of The Mist) on bass with Cavalera on guitar and vocals. On the band's website, Max Cavalera said that he founded the band "with the idea of combined sounds and spiritual beliefs." As well as leaving one of the world's most popular thrash metal bands, he had to deal with the unsolved murder of his stepson and best friend Dana Wells. The first self-titled album, Soulfly was released in the spring of 1998 and reached number 79 on the Billboard 200. Besides fronting Soulfly, Cavalera has branched out into other areas usually not associated with heavy metal musicians. He became a much-sought-after speaker at music conventions, as evidenced by his appearances at CMJ's New Music Marathon in New York and Holland's Crossing Boarder Festival, both in late 1997, and signed on to sing a TV commercial for Sprite in his native land of Brazil. Soulfly played on the 1998 Ozzfest mainstage alongside Ozzy Osbourne, Megadeth, Tool, Limp Bizkit, Sevendust, and Coal Chamber. Max Cavalera also guested on the Deftones breakthrough album Around the Fur in 1997 on a song called "Headup" about Wells' death (he got the name for the band from the lyrics of this song as there is a part that goes "Soulfly, Fly high, So fly, Fly free"). Chino of the Deftones appeared on Soulfly's first two albums contributing to the tracks "First Commandment" and "Pain". The influence of nu metal appeared on 2000's Primitive, however, it was the most successful album by the band in the US reaching number 32 on the Billboard 200 and number 11 on the US independent charts. Joe Nunez replaced Roy Mayorga on drums for Primitive. Max Cavalera produced the third album 3, released in 2002, which reached number 46 on the Billboard 200 in that year. The name of the band has been changed from Inflikted to Cavalera Conspiracy due to legal reasons. Cavalera Conspiracy's debut record is currently expected to be released by Roadrunner Records on March 25, 2008.Though the band experienced success previously, Chaos A.D. was their breakthrough album. Chaos A.D. displayed a more groove-driven direction which helped usher the then-forming groove metal genre. This was viewed as a departure from the thrash metal and death metal styling of their earlier efforts and many fans believe they sold out. Those who auditioned ranged from Eric Meyer of Dark Angel, Lee Altus of Heathen, a young Jeff Loomis (later of Nevermore), and Dimebag Darrell of Pantera. Megadeth enlisted lead guitarist Marty Friedman, who had played in Cacophony with Jason Becker, and released a solo album on Shrapnel Records called Dragon's Kiss. Friedman was initially rejected by Mustaine for having multicolored hair, but after undergoing what Mustaine called "Rock Star 101", Friedman officially joined Megadeth in February 1990.[18] A revitalized Megadeth entered Rumbo Studios in March 1990 with co-producer Mike Clink to begin work on what would become their biggest selling album to date, Rust In Peace. For the first time in their career, the band worked sober in the studio, alleviating many of the problems faced recording previous albums. Clink was also the first producer to successfully produce a Megadeth album from start to finish, without being fired.[19] Released worldwide on September 24, 1990, Rust In Peace was a hit with fans and critics alike, debuting at #23 on the Billboard Top 200 in the US, and #8 in the UK.[20] The album showcased a much tighter sound, with Mustaine's writing style adopting a rhythmically complex progressive edge, prompting All Music Guide to cite Rust in Peace as "Megadeth's strongest musical effort".[12] The album featured the singles "Holy Wars... The Punishment Due", (sample (help·info)) and "Hangar 18", (sample (help·info)) both of which received music videos, and remain live staples. Rust in Peace went on to sell more than a million copies in the US, and received Grammy nominations in 1991 and 1992 for Best Metal Performance In September 1990, Megadeth joined Slayer, Testament and Suicidal Tendencies for the European "Clash of the Titans" tour, and in October, they were added as the opening band on Judas Priest's Painkiller tour, culminating with a performance to 140,000 people in January 1991 at Rock in Rio 2 festival in Brazil. Following the success of the European tour, a "Clash of the Titans" US tour began in May 1991, featuring Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax and opener Alice in Chains. A European tour with Slayer, Anthrax, and German Thrashers Kreator (with a few live dates alongside Sodom and Destruction) came after as well. In July, Megadeth's "Go to Hell" (sample (help·info)) was featured on the Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey soundtrack, and shortly after "Breakpoint" was featured on the Super Mario Bros soundtrack. In 1991, Megadeth also released their first home video, Rusted Pieces, which contained six of the band's music videos, along with a video interview with the band Tags: Megadeth Rust in Peace The World Needs Hero Hangar Mix Dave Mustaine Marty Friedman David Ellefson Nick Menza Risk |

Following Judas Priest's lead, they toughened up the sound, reduced its blues elements, and emphasized increasingly fast tempos.[85] In 1980, NWOBHM broke into the mainstream, as albums by Iron Maiden, Motörhead, and Saxon reached the British top 10. The next year, Motörhead became the first band in the movement to top the UK charts with No Sleep 'til Hammersmith. Other NWOBHM bands, such as Diamond Head and Venom, though less successful would also have a significant influence on metal's development. The first generation of metal bands was ceding the limelight. Deep Purple had broken up soon after Blackmore's departure in 1975, and Led Zeppelin folded in 1980. Black Sabbath was routinely upstaged in concert by its opening act, the Los Angeles band Van Halen.[87] Eddie Van Halen established himself as one of the leading metal guitar virtuosos of the era—his solo on "Eruption," from the band's self-titled 1978 album, is considered a milestone.[88] Randy Rhoads and Yngwie J. Malmsteen also became famed virtuosos, associated with what would be known as the neoclassical metal style. The adoption of classical elements had been spearheaded by Blackmore and the Scorpions' Uli Jon Roth; this next generation progressed to occasionally using classical nylon-stringed guitars, as Rhoads does on "Dee" from former Sabbath lead singer Ozzy Osbourne's first solo album, Blizzard of Ozz (1980).Inspired by Van Halen's success, a metal scene began to develop in Southern California, particularly Los Angeles, during the late 1970s. Based around the clubs of L.A.'s Sunset Strip, bands such as Quiet Riot, Ratt, Mötley Crüe, and W.A.S.P. were influenced by traditional heavy metal of the earlier 1970s[89] and incorporated the theatrics (and sometimes makeup) of glam rock acts such as Alice Cooper and Kiss.[90] The lyrics of these glam metal bands characteristically emphasized hedonism and wild behavior. Musically, the style was distinguished by rapid-fire shred guitar solos, anthemic choruses, and a relatively pop-oriented melodic approach. The glam metal movement—along with similarly styled acts such as New York's Twisted Sister—became a major force in metal and the wider spectrum of rock music. Thrash metal songs typically use fast, percussive and low-register guitar riffs, overlaid with shredding-style lead work.[1] Thrash song lyrics express nihilistic views or deal with social issues using visceral, gory language, an approach which partially overlaps with the hardcore genre. The origins of thrash metal are generally traced to the late 1970s and early 1980s, when a number of bands began incorporating the sound of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal ,[2] creating a new genre and developing into a separate movement from punk rock and hardcore. This genre is much more aggressive compared to its relative, speed metal. There is often significant crossover from one metal category to another, and some bands use musical influences from non-metal genres, including classical music and jazz. 1981 is seen as a critical year for the development of thrash metal, but work prior to 1981 helped shape the genre. Earlier influences on the genre include the 1970 Black Sabbath song "Paranoid",and Led Zeppelin's 1969 song, Communication Breakdown.[citation needed] Queen's 1974 song "Stone Cold Crazy" is cited as an early precursor of the thrash metal sound.[5]; Metallica would win a Grammy Award in 1991 for their recording of the song. The Stooges had a profound influence on Motörhead.[citation needed] The songs , "I Wanna Be Your Dog","I Got a Right" and "Gimme Some Skin", released in 1973, utilized a simple and fast paced beat that metal and punk thrash music would later come to resemble. Judas Priest's 1978 song "Exciter", from the Stained Class album provided direct influence upon the development of the genre.[citation needed] The fast kick-drum intro and fast guitar solos of the track were notorious for artists of the era.[citation needed] Thrash bands like Slayer, Venom, Testament, Metallica, and Megadeth cite Judas Priest as a major influence.[citation needed] Motörhead's fast and aggressive music was a major influence on the genre.[citation needed] In 1981, Overkill would write what is often considered the first thrash metal song: "The Beast Within".[citation needed] Soon after "The Beast Within" was released, a Southern California band named Leather Charm would write the song "Hit the Lights". Leather Charm was a short-lived band that would soon break up. The primary songwriter for Leather Charm, James Hetfield, formed Metallica, which would go on to feature this song. The European thrash scene that began in early 82 was almost exclusively influenced by the most aggressive music both Germany and England were producing at the time. Venom is also considered a pioneer of the genre because of their work on the 1981 album Welcome to Hell and the 1982 album Black Metal.[citation needed] Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Testament and Exodus cite Venom as a major influence.[citation needed] Metallica released the No Life 'Til Leather demo in July 1982, and was the second band to release a studio LP, after Venom. It was titled Kill 'Em All and released in July 1983. Shortly following the release of Kill 'Em All, Slayer released their debut full length album entitled Show No Mercy, in December 1983. Death metal, like thrash metal, generally rejected the theatrics of earlier metal styles, opting instead for an everyday look of ripped jeans and plain leather jackets.[112] One major exception to this rule was Deicide's Glen Benton, who branded an inverted cross on his forehead and wore armor on stage. Morbid Angel adopted neo-fascist imagery.[112] These two bands, along with Death and Obituary, were leaders of the major death metal scene that emerged in Florida in the mid-1980s. In the UK, the related style of grindcore, led by bands such as Napalm Death and Extreme Noise Terror, emerged out of the anarcho-punk movement.[113] A large Scandinavian death metal scene, with bands such as Sweden's Entombed and Dismember, began to develop as well. Out of this evolved a melodic death metal sound, typified by Swedish bands such as In Flames and Dark Tranquillity and Finland's Children of Bodom and Kalmah. By the 1990s, American technical death metal bands such as Atheist and Cynic were showcasing astonishing levels of guitar speed and technicality. Tags: DirtyBlack Murder inc.
