CRKT M16 EDC Compact knife: Featherweight EDC Carried for a long time, I know the Columbia River Knife and Tool (CRKT) Compact M16 EDC pretty well. And there's a lot to like: light 2.1 oz, fast opening, tight lockup with LAWKS safety, nicely designed clip, attractive finishing, good steel (154CM this one), and priced resonably. It's a tiny carry package that packs a 3" blade. Downsides would be a non-reversible clip, sometimes sticky liner lock, and a limited utility spear point blade for EDC tasks (I prefer more sweep, different blade shape). But at around $50 and at 2.1 oz for this length of blade, it's a still a good EDC choice for most. Benchmade 940: Best Tactical or EDC Choice If there's a right way to make a manual folding tactical or hunting knife this is it: The outstanding Benchmade Osborne Axis 940 series of knives. All makers take note of these knives: ultra fast and easy deployment due to perfect pivot construction and balance. Who needs an auto with deployment speed like this. It really doesn't get any better than this. Add superior construction throughout, rock solid lock up, great 154CM blade steel, a cool purple titanium spacer on the back, strong clip, and great colors to this superior design. Also the both the clip and reverse tanto blade shapes offer great utility in every day carry (not too wide). At around $125 these knives are actually a good deal. Heirloom quality. They are some of my absolute favorite tactical or EDC (every day carry) folders. Nutnfancy's ROL EDC System Part 1 PART 1 of 2: Here is a rundown of Nutnfancy's Every Day Carry (EDC) system under the Rule of Law. This system represents, for Nutnfancy, the best blend of capabilities and mobility found so far. Certainly there are lots of different options and methods of EDC out there with different gun, knife, and tool options some being a lot heavier and more capable than these. And if these items are indeed carried in completeness and with high regularity then I'll extend my congrats on finding a system that works for you. However with this system I have yet to see or run into any friend or cohort that has more capabilities than I do. I'm always the one fixing things, patching people up, and fulfilling the sheepdog role with this system. And, if the jurisdiction legalities permit, I always have it on me. That's because it is easy and comfortable to carry. I minimize weight and bulk and integrate most things into a quick attachable system like a quality and small fanny pack (like the Mountainsmith Vibe II shown) to greatly simplify the system. Capabilities include a semi-auto Kahr PM9 pistol with 19 rds, Al Mar Eagle knife, Leatherman S2 Juice, Streamlight Stylus flashlight, Orion whistle, flat tweezers, Neosporin antibiotic, nail file and other various hygiene items, wallet (includes some bandages and alcohol wipes), and a pen. As shown, gun is carried in a bellyband with some velcro modifications made by Nutnfancy. Downsides of this carry are slower draw and inability to re-holster easily but they are offset by the ultra concealment and comfort qualities of a good bellyband system (riding high around chest area btw). In Without Rule of Law (WROL) scenarios, the EDC will change to address possible higher threat scenarios where the threat of confrontation is higher (vids on that maybe later). These WROL situations would utilize higher and faster accessible firepower, body armor, and perhaps more substantial blade options. But for EDC ROL use, this system has proven quite effective. EDC - Mijn Hart This very touching video clip has been produced for the rap group Eight Deuce Crips (EDC) shortwhile after my good friend Hengky MS, the father of two members of the rap group EDC, passed away. Kershaw Blur: Beautiful Collectible, EDC, or Tactical As far as enjoyment goes, it's hard to beat the Kershaw Blur. For the regular 13C26 steel versions, about $50 to $60 buys you a lot of knife enjoyment. This Ken Onion design has beautiful execution and quality throughout this assisted opening design. Perhaps some downsides might be the past choice of 440A steel (sadly, most my versions), the thin liner lock, and the wider blade that makes precise EDC cutting tasks more difficult. But the Kershaw brings mostly good news to our table: aesthetic design is a great variety of colors and higher quality steels (S30V, SG2 like mine in attractive brown handle), lightening fast deployment, tight lockup, open pillar construction, perfectly angled thumb stud, nice Trac Tec rubber inserts, and a near perfect blackened SS pocket clip. It's a tremendous value for $50 and if you have a craving for an auto you would do well to instead get this knife. It's just as fast and just as cool. Spyderco Delica knives: Reference EDC The Delica is one of my favorite EDC blades. And with all the hundreds of PMs I get regarding EDC knife options, it's time I made a separate review of the Delica and place it in one of my specific playlists to aid my subscribers' research. As addressed in the video however, the current Delica 4 is less preferred by me than the previous generation Delica 3. That's because it's heavier, has unnecessary steel liners, a smaller pocket clip, and a steeper grind. The Delica 3 was nearly perfect and it should have been left alone (except for adding jimping). The Spyderco Delica is not a tactical or heavy-use EDC blade and adding stainless steel liners, albeit skeletonized, was a dumb move by Spyderco. Of course for most users the mere .6 oz addition is forgiveable and the Delica 4 is still an outstanding EDC blade option. There's still LOTS to like in the Delica 4: Fast deployment, tight lock-up, perfectly sized blade (not too big, not too small), excellent clip that's reversible, adequate traction on the grip, and it's light enough. And it features the excellent VG10 steel. Indeed, despite it's "improvements" the Delica 4 is still at the top of my list for EDC choices. Cold Steel Voyager Medium: Great EDC... with some mods You don't hear too much about this perfectly sized and mostly affordable EDC option. In medium size, the Voyager has all kinds of utility and could even function is a emergency defensive blade. But the overriding low point in current production CS Voyagers is the poorly executed pocket clip. Its very strong and blackened (all good) but it's poorly shaped and rests atop some aggressive diamond checkering that rips up your pockets. To cure this I've done some simple mods: re-profiling the clip and then epoxy-filling the diamond pattern under the clip. That makes this otherwise excellent design... well... excellent (other than the low mounted clip that makes the knife stick out about 3/4" from your pocket). Great features on the medium sized CS Voyager include a quality AUS8 steel, solid lockup after a fast (manual) deployment, nicely shaped handle with good traction, and a perfectly sized and sharpened EDC blade. And actually this blade size and shape ranks among my all time favorite EDC options... and I love the hollow grinding on it. And at a mere 1.8 oz this lightweight knife is superbly easy to carry. At around $40 this knife is a little on the pricey side for an FRN handled knife but it's still a good buy. With the mods, it's a near perfect EDC option. CRKT Carson M4 knife: HD EDC A heavy duty EDC knife or maybe tactical folder, the CRKT Carson M4 looks to be a strong knife. With its AutoLAWKS feature, the blade is automatically locked into the open position which should preclude inadvertent closure. The hollow ground, AUS-8 steel drop point blade should offer excellent utility and perhaps some tactical capabilities with its 3.6 length. Deployment with the M4 is fast and smooth with or without its removable-torsion bar (Outburst mechanism) for assisted opening (I prefer it removed in this model, as shown). Downsides would include its 5.2 oz weight, the slick Zytel handle scales and a non-positionable pocket clip (dedicated tip down). But overall this is a handsome and capable blade that will serve admirably if your system can accept the weight.
