CSULB Economic Stabilization Act Panel Discussion Housing prices are crashing. Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, and Washington Mutual, have been acquired for pennies on the dollars. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are under Federal Government conservatorship. U.S. Commercial banks have tightened lending standards, and a credit crunch threatens global financial markets. All of this stokes fears of an economic slowdown that many believe could result in a deep recession for the U.S. and the rest of the world. The U.S. Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve Board developed a plan for a $700 billion bailout of Wall Street, and this bailout will be discussed by a panel of experts on the CSULB campus. The panel will discuss what caused the crisis, what the bailout means, what the implications of the bailout are, and how Main Street, not just Wall Street, is affected. Gerard Debreu: Lecture 1 of 4 on Econ Theory (1987) This is the first of four lectures in Economic Theory given by Professor Gerard Debreu, who was visiting the University of Canterbury as a an Erskine Fellow in 1987. Thanks to Bert Brownlie these lectures were video taped and I only just recently digitized them. The topic of the first lecture is "preference and utility". It must be said to you of the power point generation that Professor Debreu makes chalk and blackboard technology look pretty darn good! here!. 2/7 - Confessions of an Economic Hit Man http://www.economichitman.com/ In this shocking memoir, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, John Perkins tells of his own inner journey from willing servant of empire to impassioned advocate for the rights of oppressed people. Covertly recruited by the United States National Security Agency and on the payroll of an international consulting firm, he traveled the world—to Indonesia, Panama, Ecuador, Colombia, Saudi Arabia, Iran and other strategically important countries. His job was to implement policies that promoted the interests of the U.S. corporatocracy (a coalition of government, banks, and corporations) while professing to alleviate poverty—policies that alienated many nations and ultimately led to September 11 and growing anti-Americanism. Within a few weeks of its release , Confessions of an Economic Hit Man landed onThe New York Times Bestseller List, then 19 other bestseller lists including the Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post. The author has been interviewed repeatedly on national radio and television shows, including Amy Goodman's Democracy Now, CSPAN's Book TV, and PBS' Now with David Brancaccio. And now the book is being published in 9 languages around the world. According to John Perkins, "It is accomplishing an important objective in inspiring people to think and talk and to know that we can change the world." http://truth-tv.org Are You Informed Tags: The Truth Peak Oil 9/11 War On Terror Iraq Iran corporatocracy Covert operations anti-Americanism pursuit of oil |

Future inc.: No Escape from Economic Collapse http://www.rumormillnews.com/cgi-bin/forum.cgi?noframes;read=118989 http://educate-yourself.org/nwo/FEMAsecretgovt1995.shtml http://www.rense.com/general69/econm.htm -The reason why America has such large trade and current deficits is because of the expansion of its money supply, without the corresponding expansion of its productive capacity to produce the wealth to sustain the increase in money in circulation. The lack of domestic savings to provide the investment capital into new manufacturing capacity is also a contributing factor. The cost of maintaining a large military establishment and the decline in the social fabric of society are also significant contributing factors, both of which consume resources that should be invested in the manufacturing sector for a nation to remain internationally competitive.
