He's often called the Father of Colour Photography. While he didn't invent it or popularise it, he is widely regarded as the photographer who brought serious colour photography into the maintream art world. William Eggleston was born in Memphis, Tennessee and raised in Sumner, Mississippi. As a boy, Eggleston was introverted and enjoyed playing the piano, drawing, and working with electronics. From an early age, he was drawn to visual media; he reportedly enjoyed buying postcards and cutting out pictures from magazines. Eggleston was also interested in audio technology as a child. However, it was during college that his interest in photography took root; during his first year in college, a friend gave Eggleston a Leica camera. Eggleston took art classes at Ole Miss and was introduced to abstract expressionism by a visiting painter from New York named Tom Young. Eggleston began experimenting with color photography in 1965 and 1966, and color transparency film became his dominant medium in the late sixties. Kat Eggleston "Sound the Pibroch" with Kate MacLeod "Sound the Pibroch" in my opinion, is one of Kat's best songs. It is not a song about Bonnie Prince Charlie; rather it is a lament and tribute for the brave loyal Highlanders who laid down their lives against overwhelming forces in a rearguard action, thus allowing Prince Charles Stewart to escape after the carnage of Culloden. "Pibroch" is not an instrument. It is a form of ancient Scottish music to commemorate an event - almost musical history. Traditionally it was played on the bagpipes. It can be thought of as classical Scottish music with a meaning much deeper than that designed to entertain only, such as dance music which may also be played on the pipes. This song itself can be thought of as "Pibroch."
