Li nomino dentro di me uno per volta coi loro nomi antichi preromani preetruschi preliguri preindoeuropei,i nomi piu' antichi esistenti probabilmente insieme ai deserti.Probabilmente semplici suoni di cacciatori davanti alle glaciazioni che finivano inondando la fertile pianura.Per loro erano confini e mappe.Li nomino dentro di me e risalgo alle valli ai boschi ai grigi graniti dove attingono l'acqua,Il Bormida dai labirinti deserti di colline,valli,sassi e torrenti dai mille nomi,il Tanaro nascente quasi in vista del mar ligure ingentilito dal Pesio e dall'Ellero come fiori ,l'immensa Stura di Demonte dai giganti della Savoia che si incunea con il Gessoe il Vermegnana che corre giu' dal Tenda e poi bilanciano il Belbo e Tiglione Partigiani,il Maira il Varaita il Grana dalle valli Occitane del Monviso.il Germanansca con il Chisone il Pellice il Sangone tre briganti.La Dora riparia dall'interminabile val di Susa,la Stura giu' dalle valli stregate di Lanzo e l'Orco da che immensita' discende?e l'imbuto del Chiusella,una fucilata!La Dora Baltea che salta giu' da Ivrea e fa piangere tanto e' bella mentre invade la pianura con l'acqua dei giganti bianchi.e che dire dell'Elvo e del Cervo i silenziosi guardiani del Cuore delle Alpi,Il Sesia con i misteriosi Sessera e Sermenta romba giu'dal Rosa,il limpido Agogna dal Vergante,Il Ticino azzurro dalle libere valli del Toce.e poi il quieto Adda che con il Lambro raccoglie tutto quanto bacia il suolo tra Varese e Bergamo e poi L'Oglio verde giu' dai massi camuni e il Clisi. About the group: Fast becoming the premiere ensemble of its kind in North America, the Washington Cornett and Sackbutt Ensemble, directed by Michael Holmes, consists of early brass specialists from the Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City areas. The WCSE's membership has modified and grown considerably since its inception in 1997. It has performed extensively and has been in high demand all along the east coast USA, collaborating in adventuresome programs with prominent period ensembles such as Lumen Valo (Finland), New Trinity Baroque (Atlanta), Sacra Fuma (Princeton), the Orchestra of the 17th Century (D.C.), the Washington Bach Consort (D.C.), Carmina (D.C.), Cantate Chamber Singers (D.C.), the Washington Kantorei (D.C.), and Zephyrus (Charlottesville). Its repertoire has been vast, exploring almost every possible style and region, including music from Germany, Italy, Poland, Bohemia, Moravia, Scandinavia, Spain, England and the New World. In the summer of 2001, WCSE produced its first recording of music by Gabrieli and Schütz. In August 2003, WCSE was invited to be the featured ensemble at the Historic Brass Society Festival at Yale University (New Haven, CT), and were invited to return for the next annual festival concurrent with the Baroque Performance Institute at Oberlin College. WCSE was featured in the 2004 CD recording "Mass in Honor of the Immaculate Conception" in music by Monteverdi, Gabrieli, Frescobaldi, Marenzio, and Ugolini, in collaboration with the choir of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C. Another WCSE recording of a canzona by Claudio Merulo circulated to numerous North American universities in 2005 as part of the anthology for Craig Wright and Brian Simms's new music history textbook "Music in Western Civilization."
