TORNADO and Friends - GCR Gala 12/10/08 After a brilliant weekend on the KWVR, which for some reason was sparsely attended, I and my partner visited the GCR Gala, where I dicovered the reason. Having attended the GCR for over thirty years, I have never seen such crowds of people on the trains, platforms, bridges and lineside locations as we saw on Sunday. It proved well nigh impossible to park the car at the usual spots, like Quorn & Woodhouse and Kinchley Lane. It was also very difficult to obtain a decent view of the line - hence some of the shots, directly above the running line. However, it proved to be a very enjoyable day out, with a picnic lunch beside the reservoir. We shall return for a ride later on when the crowds subside. 70048 renamed: Territorial Army 100 at GCR 70013 Oliver Cromwell, renumbered as 70048 for the TA Centenary, appears in Quorn Yard and leaves Loughborough for Quorn and the re-naming ceremony which was followed by the TPO drop with 5690 Leander in charge. We then see 70048, with HRH on board, passing Woodthorpe and later, in front of a rapt gallery, passing Kinchley Lane and finally Rabbit Bridge. We then see the last run of the day from Leander between Woodthorpe and Quorn before visiting Loughborough shed as darkness falls. GCR Kinchley Lane Oct 12th 2008 Part 1 GCR Autumn Gala October 12th 2008. Excellent selection of locos cruising past Kinchley Lane on a glorious autumn Sunday. I was the bloke with the tripod balanced on the bridge parapet. Hi to everyone else crammed into the rather limited space, all observing photo etiquette, except a few ('still' photographers) who start chattering as soon as the loco has passed which can be annoying to those who are videoing.
