Ryan Gallant for Canada's Next Great Prime Minister Hi Canada. Thanks for watching. My name is Ryan Gallant, and I am 24 years old and am currently in my first year of law at McGill University in Montréal. I believe that with the proper plan and leadership, we can move forward and meet the challenges that we face as a country. My vision for Canada begins with three simple ideas of how we can improve out country economically, socially and politically. Firstly, I would improve relations with the provinces and the way in which these two levels of government cooperate in dealing with issues of common import to all Canadians. For example, I would work with the premiers to establish a dedicated education transfer, an affordable standard for post-secondary education, and quality incentives for graduates, all with the goal of building Canada's knowledge-based economy. Also, cooperation with the provinces and territories is required on Health Care, to provide guaranteed wait times and to standardize the conditions for medical professionals across the country, and thus the quality of Health Care from coast to coast. Secondly, I believe that Canada's place in the world affects our economy, political system and our social ties directly. I would take steps to improve Canada's foreign political stance and abilities through an increase in funding to the military to ensure the safety of our military and by boosting participation in UN-approved and UN peacekeeping missions. Also, I would reclaim Canada's legacy on the world's stage by tying Foreign Aid to 0.7% of our GDP, a goal that has often been promised, but never met. Finally, I would work to remedy the abysmal lack of interest in our political system by making it relevant for all Canadians. My government would enhance Canada's political system and foster interest in our political processes and institutions by encouraging increased engagement and volunteerism in our schools and communities. We would ensure that the voices of all Canadians are heard by assessing the need for a Mixed Member System in our electoral process. We would take steps to mend regional disparity by exploring the prospect of a Senate with effective power, elected through Proportional Representation. My government would institute fixed election dates, an abide by those fixed dates. These are a few simple ideas that I would implement as Prime Minister, and I believe that they would impact many of the areas that Canadians feel are most important to them. My vision for Canada is one that establishes government that is relevant and effective for Canadians, one that listens to the priorities of Canadians, and represents all citizens, both here at home, and around the world.
