Ondine, Gaspard de la Nuit, Maurice Ravel, by Félix Ardanaz Ondine, an oneiric tale of a water fairy singing to seduce the observer and accompany her to visit her kingdom deep at the bottom of the lake in the triangle of water, fire and earth. This piece contains technical problems for the right hand, like wild cadenza figures, chordal motifs, and chromatic notes and thirds. C.V (english) The 19 years old Spanish musician Félix González-Ardanaz, began his musical upbringing in La Rioja at the "Professional School of Music", finalizing bachelor at sciences and the Professional Degree of Music at the age of 17, and with the best qualifications, under the trusteeship of Begoña Axpe Basarrete and Elvira Guarás. From an early age, he has performed in its community many times, as chamber music performer and as soloist. He has taken part in several courses in the field of piano and conducting, as active student and as soloist. That was in the context of the Fifth International Summer Course "New Musical Generation" in Segovia; of the "Third International Forum of Music City of Toledo", and of the "50th International Summer Academy of Nice". He has also participated actively in the courses which usually take place in the Musikeon Academy, in Valencia, in charge of the Italian musician Luca Chiantore, and in those of the Eutherpe Foundation in Leon. He has received classes by spanish pianists of the stature of Guillermo González, Josep Colom... and Solomon Mikowsky, Brigitte Engerer, Jean-François Heisser and Michel Béroff in the international field. Since last year, he has had the privilege to receive the extraordinary supervision of Doña Alicia de Larrocha, great lady of the Spanish piano. His trajectory has provided him several awards in international contests like "City of San Sebastián" (third prize in the categories of chamber music and the piano highest level , respectively) and "Ciutat de Carlet" (mention in the youthful modality). He has been supported by some state foundations devoted to talent developing and the help to high capacities, as the "Promete Foundation", and he has been granted the prize "Youngs of the Future" to the values of the youth, promoted by the Rotary Club the International. Three months ago, he took part in the Concert-Recording of the unknown masterpiece "Rhapsodie Basque pour orchestre et piano", by the French composer Charles Bordes, with the collaboration of the Spanish conductor Jose Luis Estellés. Recently, he has been selected one finalist of the European grant promoted by the foundation Yamaha Europe, that will take place soon, and which is destined to grant only one Spanish pianist. As soloist, he has worked masterpieces of Chopin, Liszt, Albéniz, Debussy, Beethoven and Ravel, among others. At the present time, it attends with excellent qualifications second course of the modalities of Piano and Conducting in the Basque Country School of Music (Musikene), under the trusteeship of Gustavo Diaz-Jerez and Enrique García Asensio, permanent conductor of the "Spanish Radio and Television Orchestra" during more than 20 years in the past. He feels special predilection for the Spanish nationalism, the romanticism and french impressionism. Robert Casadesus plays Ravel Gaspard de la Nuit (1/3) Part I Maurice Ravel (1875-1937): Gaspard de la Nuit Trois Poèmes pour piano d'après Aloysius Bertrand (1908) 1. Ondine Robert Casadesus, piano Recorded in 1951. Robert Casadesus, pianist and composer. Born in Paris on 7th April 1899, died in Paris on 19th September 1972. Robert Casadesus is today considered one of the greatest French pianists of the 20th century. Coming from a family of musicians, at the age of 14 he obtained a first prize in piano at the Paris Conservatoire and the Diémer Prize in 1920. The following year, he undertook his first European concert tours, thus beginning an international career that would last a half-century. In 1935, Robert Casadesus performed in the United States for the first time. The next year, Toscanini invited him, and the success was immediate. This would mark the beginning of a great number of tours, especially in the United States, as well as some forty countries in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Japan. His numerous public appearances (nearly 3,000 concerts) and abundant discography (some hundred recordings) gave him a renown that is still thriving today. He played with the greatest conductors of the time, such as Ansermet, Barbirolli, Beecham, Bernstein, Celibidache, Karajan, Krips, Mengelberg, Monteux, Munch, Mitropoulos, Ormandy, Rosbaud, Schuricht, Stokowski, Szell, Toscanini, Walter and Weingartner. He also loved sharing the stage with his wife, Gaby, his son Jean (both excellent pianists) and violinist Zino Francescatti, a friend with whom he formed a memorable duo in numerous concerts and recordings. A teacher of international reputation, he was associated for nearly thirty years with the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau, in France and the United States, as professor and director general. A confirmed composer, he left a considerable catalogue consisting of 69 opus and including seven symphonies, several concertos (for piano, two and three pianos, violin, cello, flute) and numerous chamber works. Today, a growing number of recordings attest to the timeless appeal of his music. Robert Casadesus passed away on 19th September 1972, shortly after the death of his son Jean. He left behind him a cultural heritage that is one of its kind, his double vocation as performer and composer giving him the rare privilege of having been both an observer and the perpetuator of the principal French musical trends of the 20th century. He was raised to the rank of Commander of the Légion d'honneur, the Order of Léopold (Belgium), and the Order of Nassau (Netherlands). With his wife Gaby (née L'Hote) he had three children: Jean, Guy and Thérèse. www.robertcasadesus.com Pictures: Gaby & Robert Casadesus, 1932; Ravel during a tour in North America in 1928.
