end of the world?, the Large Hadron Collider ( LHC ) The Large Hadron Collider is the largest and most complex scientific instrument ever built and the highest energy particle accelerator in the world. The accelerator is located 100 m underground and runs through both French and Swiss territory. ( 27km circumference) Year 2008 September 10th, marks the culmination of 20 years of work by over 8000 scientists thousands of engineers, technicians and support staff from over 80 different countries. some critics say that this could create a black hole and suck up the entire world..but many say that even if a black hole is created it will wannish within a millionth of a second.. Latest : they have successfully done the 1st testing on the 10th September 2008, sending 2 beams separately clockwise and anticlockwise, which had successfully gone all the way around the ring. but there had been some minor errors, which we dont have to worry about. ***due to a helium leak, the LHC wont be re-started till 2009. for more info follow these links. The Large Hadron Collider promises to recreate the conditions in the early universe. By revisiting the beginning of time, scientists hope to unravel some of the deepest secrets of our Universe. Within these first few moments the building blocks of the Universe were formed. The search for these fundamental particles has occupied scientists for decades but there remains one particle that has stubbornly refused to appear in any experiment. The Higgs Boson is so crucial to our understanding of the Universe that it has been dubbed the God particle. It explains how fundamental particles acquire mass, or as one scientist plainly states: "It is what makes stuff stuff..." Tags: Large Hadron Collider LHC Higgs Boson Atlas CERN |

The Large Hadron Collider Ok, So I'm 15 and the rumour ot out to out school about the incredable machine 'The Large Hadron Collider' was going to SMASH atoms together and are going to create black holes which will destroy the Earth... Universe, now all I heard was rumours and everyone was saying worlds going to end in 10 days etc. so I wanted to know about this because I'm only 15 and I wanted to know as MUCH as I could possibly can about this 'Earth Destroyer' I read in 'The Sun' [A British NewsPaper'] That the world would end in 9 days, and well The Sun newspaper is for pub men so the over aggerate EVERYTHING to make it interesting, so I thought best thing to do was go onto the LHC website and learn more and the thing I found out is that the creation of BlackHoles is as close as it can get to impossible. I also read in the TV Guide that a program about 'The Big Bang Machine' was on BBC 4 so I was watching that for an hour and I took this little snippet from the program of one of the Scientist who helped create the LHC explain about the BlackHole Mystery so enjoy. --- By the way I'm not some Nerd, I just don't want to die =[ so I'm looking for all the reasurrence I can get that I won't =[ --- TO WATCH EPIDSODE IN FULL THEN FOLLOW THIS LINK http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00dccnr/ PLEASE BE AWARE THIS VIDEO WILL BE TAKEN OFF THE BBCiPlayer WEBSITE THURSDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER 9:59pm [BST] --- The LHC will be switched on again: Next Month** Tags: LHC LargeHadronCollider Large Hadron Collider BlackHole Black Hole World End September 10th Switzerland CERN |

The Large Hadron Collider - LHC (world end??) **(TIME MACHINE) time travel? congrtzzZ..Scientists hail as a success the start of an experiment to recreate the conditions a few moments after the "Big Bang" The Large Hadron Collider-LHC http://quegrande.org/countdown/ Housed in a 27-kilometre tunnel. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world's largest particle accelerator complex, intended to collide opposing beams of 7 TeV protons. Its main purpose is to explore the validity and limitations of the Standard Model, the current theoretical picture for particle physics. Black hole - here http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=64JxuLOXhCk The LHC was built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), and lies under the Franco-Swiss border near Geneva, Switzerland. The LHC is the world's largest and the highest-energy particle accelerator. It is funded and built in collaboration with over eight thousand physicists from over eighty-five countries as well as hundreds of universities and laboratories. The idea of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), began in the early 1980s. The first approval of the project by the CERN Council occurred in December 1994 and the first civil engineering construction work began in April 1998. The collider is currently undergoing commissioning while being cooled down to its final operating temperature of approximately 1.9 K (−271.25 °C). Initial particle beam injections were successfully carried out on 8-11 August, 2008,[2][3] the first attempt to circulate a beam through the entire LHC is scheduled for 10 September 2008,[4] and the first high-energy collisions are planned to take place after the LHC is officially unveiled, on 21 October 2008.[5] When activated, it is theorized that the collider will produce the elusive Higgs boson, the observation of which could confirm the predictions and "missing links" in the Standard Model of physics and could explain how other elementary particles acquire properties such as mass. Large Hadron Collider Could Create Wormholes: a Gateway for Time Travelers? Two Russian scientists claim that the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a particle accelerator in Switzerland, may be the world's first time machine. They're in the process of trying to recreate a miniature Big Bang. They're not sure exactly what will happen, but my guess is destroy the planet somehow. The first particle smash goes down in May, and they believe it may create a rip in the fabric of time, making time travel possible. I don't know about all that, but one time I did an experiment where I collided a subatomic toot with the particles of my jeans, creating a rip in the fabric of Levi's. But there wasn't any time traveling afterwards, just a stink and ruined pants. However, Prof Irina Aref'eva and Dr Igor Volovich, mathematical physicists at the Steklov Mathematical Institute in Moscow believe the energies generated by the subatomic collisions in the LHC may be powerful enough to rip space-time itself, spawning wormholes. A wormhole not only has the ability to take a shortcut between two positions in space, it can also take a shortcut between two positions in time. So, the LHC could be the first ever "time machine", providing future time travelers with a documented time and place where a wormhole "opened up" into our time-line. This year could therefore be "Year Zero", the base year by which time travel is limited to. Tags: The Large Hadron Collider-LHC nibiru 2012 world end anuneki www NLO planet air on 21 October 2008 |

CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a gigantic scientific instrument near Geneva, where it spans the border between Switzerland and France about 100 m underground. It is a particle accelerator used by physicists to study the smallest known particles -- the fundamental building blocks of all things. It will revolutionise our understanding, from the minuscule world deep within atoms to the vastness of the Universe. Two beams of subatomic particles called 'hadrons' -- either protons or lead ions -- will travel in opposite directions inside the circular accelerator, gaining energy with every lap. Physicists will use the LHC to recreate the conditions just after the Big Bang, by colliding the two beams head-on at very high energy. Teams of physicists from around the world will analyse the particles created in the collisions using special detectors in a number of experiments dedicated to the LHC. There are many theories as to what will result from these collisions, but what's for sure is that a brave new world of physics will emerge from the new accelerator, as knowledge in particle physics goes on to describe the workings of the Universe. For decades, the Standard Model of particle physics has served physicists well as a means of understanding the fundamental laws of Nature, but it does not tell the whole story. Only experimental data using the higher energies reached by the LHC can push knowledge forward, challenging those who seek confirmation of established knowledge, and those who dare to dream beyond the paradigm. Hadron Collider Halted for Months In Switzerland, what had been billed as the biggest science experiment ever has been postponed. That's because tons of liquid helium leaked into the Large Hadron Collider's 16 plus-mile tunnel. Located deep underground along the Swiss-French border, the Large Hadron Collider is the biggest and most complex machine ever made. It aims to unlock the secrets of the universe's creation by recreating the big bang on a microscopic scale. Here's more. STORY: Scientists at CERN are trying to put on a brave face after a technical glitch forced engineers to shut down the Large Hadron Collider. A faulty electrical connection between two magnets in the huge particle accelerator, buried in a sealed chamber below the Swiss-French border, led to a tonne of liquid helium being leaked into the 27-km tunnel. A spokesman for the European Organization for Nuclear Research, James Gillies, said the damage was more extensive than first feared. [James Gillies, Head of Communications, CERN]: "Any other machine that we have here at CERN it would take two days to fix it, but because the LHC is a super-conducting machine that works at very low temperatures, in order to get in and fix it we've got to warm it up, then we go and fix it and then we cool it down again and that's a process that's likely to take two months." Less than two weeks ago, scientists celebrated the start-up of the world's biggest and most expensive physics experiment ever attempted. The $9 billion collider aims to recreate conditions not seen since the first billionth of a second after the "Big Bang" that scientists believe created the universe 17 billion years ago. The accelerator is designed to smash together two beams of protons - one of the building blocks of matter - at close to the speed of light in four huge detectors placed along the 27-kilometer hollow ring. The sub-atomic collisions will generate showers of energy and matter...among the cosmic debris, scientists are hoping to find answers to some of the biggest questions concerning the origins of the universe, such as how particles acquire mass. The first high-speed particle collisions were due to take place later this month...the goal now is simply to get this vastly complex machine working.
