Rebecca Cassidy Some Enchanted Evening Rodgers & Hammerstein Rebecca Cassidy sings Some Enchanted Evening Rodgers and Hammerstein. Produced and Presented by Alessandro Sorbello http://www.alessandrosorbello.com as part of Italian Week 2008. Some Enchanted Evening" is a show tune from the 1949 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific. In the show, it is sung as a solo by Emile de Becque, the French plantation owner, who falls in love with the American navy nurse Nellie Forbush. In this song he sings of seizing the moment so that it won't slip away. In the film version, the song is sung by Giorgio Tozzi, who dubbed for Rossano Brazzi. According to the running commentary on the DVD release of South Pacific, this song provides an example of Hammerstein's use of verbs in a song. The DVD commentary mentions that Lehman Engel remembered how Oscar Hammerstein II wanted to write a song that used verbs, but waited ten years to do so before he wrote this song. The song is rich with verbs, such as "see", "hear" and "find." Besides recordings by Ezio Pinza (original cast album) and Perry Como (biggest hit version), several other versions were recorded; see below. Recorded versions Perry Como (recorded March 1, 1949) Bing Crosby (recorded March 10, 1949) Al Jolson (recorded May 31, 1949) John Laurenz Ezio Pinza (recorded April 18, 1949) for the Original Broadway cast recording of South Pacific Jo Stafford (recorded March 9, 1949) Frank Sinatra (recorded February 28, 1949) Bryn Terfel (recorded October 1995) (1996) - Something Wonderful: Bryn Terfel Sings Rodgers and Hammerstein Paul Weston and Orchestra (instrumental) Willie Nelson Jay and the Americans Carl Mann (1960) José Carreras (1986) for a studio cast recording of South Pacific with Kiri Te Kanawa, Mandy Patinkin and Sarah Vaughan Jon Bon Jovi - on Ally McBeal The Temptations (1995, For Lovers Only) Philip Quast for the 2002 London revival cast recording of South Pacific Giorgio Tozzi (1958 for the film soundtrack, 1967 for the Lincoln Centre revival cast recording with Florence Henderson Barbra Streisand (from her 1993 album Back to Broadway) Harrison Ford in American Graffiti Paulo Szot - Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific (The New Broadway Cast) (2008 http://www.newrealm.com.au Tags: Rebecca Cassidy Some Enchanted Evening Rodgers Hammerstein |

Kurt von Hammerstein, der General der austand gegen Hitler Here a translation: "I won't go along with this". When you are in a political party you won't make much friends with this kind of statements , but in the NSDAP it was dangerous. Also for the highest military Kurt von Hammerstein and he hasn't been noticed so far, not even by historians. He was an opponent of Hitler from 1933 onwards. He was of noble descent and had 7 children. 2 sons were involved in the "July 20" movement and 3 daughters were Communists. Kurt von Hammerstein had no problem with that. Hans Magnus Enzensberger has written a book about him. . One of the few films with Kurt von Hammerstein. It shows him in 1933 as "chef of Heresleitung" he was the most powerful man in the German army. A few months later, he resigned in protest against Hitler. Now is a book written about this wrongly almost forgotten General. "Hammerstein oder eigenzinn". Enzensberger; if you write a biography you should find something striking to him, something admirable. . Kurt Freiherr von Hammerstein comes from a military noble family and makes quickly a career in the army. In 1930, he was "chief of Heresleitung" and lives in Berlin. He was considered a brilliant strategist but also as very lazy. Instead of sitting behind a desk, he prefers hunting. He wants his head empty. An independent spirit. This is also evident from his relationship with his three communist daughters. Kurt von Hammerstein said about his daughters that they could do what they wanted as free Republicans. Which in itself was a remarkable expression for such a noble someone like Kurt von Hammerstein. . Kurt von Hammerstein wouldn't have anything to do with the NSDAP or Hitler and he reluctantly gives in February 1933 a dinner for the generals. At this dinner Hitler shares his plans for the future with them. Hitler wants a dictatorship on the inside and a war on the outside. . Franz von Hammerstein; he wanted to conquer Poland and Russia and said what he wanted to do with it all. Then my father said that there was no way that he will be playing any part in this. Enzensberger, he had understood that such a war could not be won and that it will run into a world war. A worse recurrence of the first world war. He was a patriot and didn't want the downfall of Germany and acted by stepping down as "chef of Heresleitung" in 1934. Hammerstein makes no further secret that he hates the NSDAP. In His house in Berlin the opponents of the NSDAP meet each other. He says that fear is a vision of the world. Amazingly enough nothing happens with him. Enzensberger has examined the history of the family von Hammerstein and placed anecdote against suspicions and facts against inventions. Enzensberger has incorporated this into his book by holding interviews with the dead in which he asks for their opinion. Could Kurt von Hammerstein have had history changed? Von Hammerstein said that he thought of arresting Hitler when it was still possible but didn't because of all the violence of the SA which was present everywhere and he feared a civil war in the case if he would indeed arrest Hitler. This also shows a weakness of the book. Enzensberger actually indicates that the administrative and military elite had actually no choice but powerless and idly watch the failure of the Weimar Republic. One argument that is controversial. Wolfgang Wipperman believes that the Weimar Republic is portrayed to negatively and was not doomed to failure and that the collapse was driven by amongst other things, the nobility, elite and the military top. Kurt Freiherr von Hammerstein was an exception and saw the catastrophe coming, but there was nothing he could do about it to change history in his course and so the memory of him can't offer much comfort. 552. Stout-Hearted Men (Romberg and Hammerstein) This song comes from an operetta called "The New Moon", with music by Sigmund Romberg and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The show was the third and last in a string of Broadway hits for Romberg, following The Desert Song (1924) and The Student Prince (1925). It opened on Broadway in September, 1928 and closed in December 1929 after running for 519 performances. MGM made two films based on the show, one in 1930, starring Grace Moore and Lawrence Tibbett and another in 1940 starring Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy. This is one of a series of videos my wife shot when the Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice Choir was invited to the 20th wedding anniversary of choir member, Tony Wong, and his wife, Gidget, a party at the Hong Kong Bankers' Club. This is not a concert performance, and there were a lot of other things going on, but it is a chance to see the choir in party mode, at a time when the rule about no drinking before a performance didn't apply! Mario Lanza- If I Loved You (Rodgers-Hammerstein) Mario Lanza VALENTINE'S DAY tribute! "If I Loved You"(Rodgers-Hammerstein). Recorded February 22, 1952, for The Mario Lanza Show, with studio orchestra conducted by Ray Sinatra. Perhaps a Mario Lanza Valentine's Day tribute is a cheesy idea, but at least there are plenty of great songs to choose from. And I doubt that most would quibble with my selection: Rodgers' and Hammerstein's immortal "If I Loved You" from Carousel, in a breathtaking Lanza performance. Few classically-trained singers have been able to move successfully between opera and the Great American Songbook, but Lanza does so effortlessly. His phrasing is utterly natural, instinctive, and unforced, yet full of nuance. And his obvious enthusiasm and sincerity convince the listener of the rightness of almost every musical gesture. Combined with that incredible voice, these elements make Lanza's legacy of popular song an enduring, ever-inviting musical treasure.
