Jewelry Making Tutorials - How To Loop Headpins A little clip to demonstrate visually how to loop a jewelry wire finding known as a headpin to make bead drop assemblies that can be used in making beaded earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc. You'll need some beads and a few head pins a few beads, and a minimum of two hand tools: a looping (rosary) pliers and cutting pliers to try this the way I've shown it. Optionally, though an essential part of any jewelry maker's tool box, needle nose pliers to straighten everything out at the end so that everything will hang right. Practice makes perfect! With time it will come naturally as your muscle memory takes over. The same technique can also used on eyepins to make linked chains. Make a bunch and link them together with jump rings. Headpins - Stayin' All Night (Soft Version) Issued in Canada August 1985 on MCA HSO-7 promo. Commercial single featuring "Hard Version" on MCA 52689. While Chilliwack was on hiatus from touring and recording in the early '80s, members Ab Bryant (bass) and Brian MacLeod (guitar) put together Headpins with Matt Frenette (drums) and Randy Bachman's wife Denise McCann (vocals). Not long after making their performing debut, Frenette left to join Loverboy, and McCann left to join Night Train with Prism's Rocket Norton. They were replaced by Bernie Aubin on drums, and ex-Streetback vocalist Darby Mills. Their first high-profile show was opening for Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow in Vancouver. Not wishing to rely on their status as established artists, Bryant & MacLeod entered Headpins in a "Battle Of The Bands" contest sponsored by CFOX in Vancouver, in 1981. Two of their songs made it to an extremely limited-edition compilation album of Vancouver groups who entered the contest. Later that year, both Chilliwack and Headpins were signed to Solid Gold Records. Their first album, "Turn It Loud," produced by Chilliwack's Bill Henderson, sold 200,000 copies, going gold, then platinum, then double-platinum, making it the one of the most successful debut albums ever released by a Canadian group. "Line Of Fire" was issued in 1983, and Headpins toured with Kiss, Billy Squier, Helix, Quiet Riot and played on the bill with Whitesnake at the Hammersmith Odeon in London. While the band was working hard and touring relentlessly, their record label went bankrupt. Headpins resurfaced in 1985 on MCA with "Head Over Heels," produced by MacLeod and Bryant. It featured this single, which was issued in 7" and 12" editions. The radio promo had an edited remix (with thirty seconds removed) on one side, called "Soft Version," done by William Wittman and Thom Trumbo. It didn't receive commercial issue, and has never been included on an album or CD reissue. Although most of the elements of the "Hard Version" remain, the guitar crunch and overall bombast has been somewhat toned down. Whether this helped the record to get played on the radio is unknown, but it's a moot point when you realize that when you went to buy the album or single, this version wasn't on it anyway. The album didn't perform to MCA's expectations, and they gradually withdrew support, until dropping the group from their roster in 1986. "Stayin' All Night" entered the RPM 100 on September 7th 1985 at #89 with a bullet, and spent two weeks at #52 in November. Headpins has reformed, with original members Darby Mills, Ab Bryant and Bernie Aubin. Brian MacLeod died of brain cancer in 1992. The first two original Headpins albums plus an enhanced CD of Greatest Hits are for sale on the Headpins official website. "Head Over Heels" does not seem to have ever been reissued on CD.
