DataBasin.org: Creating incentives for people to share public GIS data Google Tech Talks April, 15 2008 ABSTRACT While they might share common conservation goals, motivating advocates, scientists and policy makers to share public data is no easy task. Issues of trust, data provenance, statistical accuracy, and usability are all challenges that cause collaborative public GIS platforms to fail. Incentives to Stop Iran's Uranium Enrichment CHEN: Amid ongoing concerns over Iran's nuclear ambitions the U.S. sends a State Department official to join a meeting with Iran's nuclear negotiator. He will meet with envoys from other World powers and try to find a way to stop Iran's uranium enrichment program. STORY: U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said she did not know if Iran would respond positively to an offer made by major powers for Iran to suspend sensitive nuclear work in exchange for incentives. Rice was asked about her expectations after meeting with the Finnish Foreign Minister. [Condoleezza Rice, US Secretary of State]: "I don't know. The point we are making is that the United States is firmly behind this diplomacy and firmly behind and unified with our allies. Hopefully the Iranians will take that message. We will see what the Iranians say." Earlier this week, Rice decided to send the third-ranking official in the State Department, William Burns, to join a meeting with Iran's nuclear negotiator along with the EU foreign policy chief as well as envoys from China, Russia, France, Britain and Germany. Iran is expected to respond to an offer of incentives made last month by major powers, which includes financial and diplomatic carrots as well as cooperation in developing a civilian nuclear program. While Burns is going to talks in Geneva, the United States has said it will only begin full-blown negotiations with Iran if it gives up uranium enrichment, which the West believes is aimed at developing a nuclear weapon and Iran says is for peaceful power generation.
