CHARLES & INEZ FOXX - Tightrope "TIGHTROPE" - Released 1967. CHARLES & INEZ FOXX, Inez Foxx (born 9th September 1942) and her brother Charlie Foxx (23rd October 1939 18th September 1998) were an American rhythm and blues and soul duo from Greensboro, North Carolina. U.S.A. Inez sang lead vocal, while Charlie sang back-up and played guitar. Their most successful record was with their novelty composition, "Mockingbird". Released in 1963, it made the Top 10 on both the rhythm and blues and pop charts; the song was later covered by James Taylor and Carly Simon, as well as Dusty Springfield and more recently by country music artist Toby Keith (featuring his daughter, Krystal). Other notable recordings were "Hurt by Love," "Ask Me," and "(1-2-3-4-5-6-7) Count the Days." They were known for their exciting live performances, of which a highlight was Inez's rendition of "I Stand Accused", which finished with a supposedly distraught Inez singing the last verse, while being carried offstage by Charlie. They toured extensively in Europe and their music played a key role in the development of the Northern Soul movement. Inez also had some success recording on her own, beginning in 1969, but her popularity faded in the 1970s. Charlie was already working as a record producer when they finally disbanded their act. Inez Andrews - A Short History Inez Andrews (born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1929) is an American gospel singer and recording artist. While living in Birmingham, she became a member of the Original Gospel Harmonettes. The Caravans In the 1950s Andrews became a member of the gospel group Albertina Walker and The Caravans; she auditioned for Albertina Walker and Dorothy Norwood, and they sent for her in Chicago. She has resided there, and used Chicago as a base for her performing career, to this day. Along with Albertina Walker, Dorothy Norwood, James Cleveland, Shirley Caesar, Cassietta George, Josepine Howard, Eddie Williams, James Herndon, and Delores Washington, she became one of the major stars of gospel's golden age. The Caravans produced songs such as "Lord Keep Me Day By Day", "Remember Me," "I Won't Be Back," and several other hits in which Andrews was lead vocalist, including "Mary Don't You Weep," "I'm Not Tired Yet," "Make It In," "He Won't Deny Me," and "I'm Willing". She has also released a reunion album with The Caravans, Albertina Walker, Dorothy Norwood, and original soprano Delores Washington, entitled Paved the Way. Solo career After a stellar career with the Caravans, she left the group in 1962 and had huge success with her crossover music crossover hit, "Lord Don't Move the Mountain". Andrews has recorded on many labels since the 1950s and has many albums and hit songs to her credit, some of which she composed herself.
