The IVAW members at the front of the formation were immediately arrested, and others were pushed back into the crowd by police on horseback. This led some to raise the question how does Colin Powell know what Al Jazeera are going to broadcast before they do? In an amazing and timely coincidence, the tape came barely a week after Powell's attempts to link Al Qaeda and Saddam in his botched presentation of lies and exaggerations before the UN Security Council. Erin Burnett and Mark Haines of CNBC's Squawk on The Street persistently interrupted Schiff, CEO of Euro Pacific Capital, barely allowing him to finish sentences or even complete thoughts as he sought to explain how 'Obamanomics' will not address the problems at the core of the crisis and will instead perpetuate them. "If we have stronger Democratic control of congress, which certainly looks likely, I think that is going to make matters worse, because not only does it make it easier for Obama to get his agenda through, but it also makes it easier for the Congress to get their stuff through. There's no checks and balances whatsoever." Schiff explained. "As an American I think it is a disaster. Not that I'm a big pro McCain supporter, I think McCain's policies would also make the situation worse, but unfortunately, I think if we get Obama in there we get a much bigger mandate. When he comes into office, it's going to be as if capitalism has been repudiated and the new mandate is that we need more government," he continued. "It wasn't the free market, " Schiff urged, referring to the cause of the economic crisis. "Remember, if it wasn't for the Federal Reserve, which is a government entity, keeping interest rates much too low, we never would have had a housing bubble, we never would have had a subprime market. If it wasn't for Fannie and Freddie, which are creatures of government, we never would have had the moral hazard necessary to allow Americans to borrow more money than they can repay." asserted Schiff, who served as an economic advisor to Congressman Ron Paul's Presidential campaign earlier this year. Schiff attempted to explain how returning the economy to the way it was a few years ago, as Obama has promised to do, is not feasible because it was based on a bubble of borrowing and spending vast amounts of money. Rockefeller, however, and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, were briefed on the NSA snoop program back in 2003 and said nothing about it. Rockefeller did write a two-page letter to Cheney expressing his "concerns" about the surveillance. "But Rockefeller never did anything beyond that, such as contacting a lawyer," writes Declan McCullagh for CNet News, even though the Senate Intelligence committee is officially charged with "vigilant legislative oversight over the intelligence activities of the United States to assure that such activities are in conformity with the Constitution and laws of the United States." NSA and government surveillance of Americans is hardly limited to overseas phone calls. "The government admits that the warrantless wiretapping of Americans' international phone calls and emails is only a part of its secret post 9/11 intelligence operations inside the country," notes Ryan Singel for Wired. Singel points out that the secret snoop program authorized by Bush is so intrusive and egregious it almost led to the resignation of Attorney General John Ashcroft and the head of the FBI Robert Mueller. "One suspects it has something to do with purely domestic communications, which don't come close to falling into the grey zones of the complicated rules about when the government does and does not need a court order to wiretap." As NBC reported back in 2005, the Pentagon has busied itself with monitoring antiwar groups. NBC described the Pentagon's Counterintelligence Field Activity, or CIFA, as a "superpower of data mining within the U.S. national security community." The CIFA was supposedly "disestablished" on August 4 by the Department of Defense, but as we know the government rarely closes the doors on successful intelligence operations. The DoD simply rolled CIFA into its Defense Counterintelligence and Human Intelligence Center, operated by the Defense Intelligence Agency. CIFA's stand alone operation was not "disestablished" because it was a threat to the civil liberties of Americans, but rather because it "was mired in cronyism, scandal and corruption," according to Tom Burghardt. According to Doug Thompson, it didn't take long for Michael Hayden to dedicate the CIA to domestic spying in violation of its charter. "Now that he is officially sworn in as the new head of the Central Intelligence Agency, Gen. Michael Hayden plans to build a vast domestic spying network that will pry into the lives of most Americans around the clock," Thompson wrote for Capitol Hill Blue on May 31, 2006. Can I prove this in a court of law? No. Do I know it is happening? Yes, without a doubt. Enough sources within the CIA, FBI, NSA and Pentagon have come forward in recent days to warn about Hayden's plans for an expanded, consolidated spy network aimed at Americans, not terrorists, and violating numerous laws that prohibit such activities against citizens of this country. Hayden, who oversaw the National Security Agency's questionable monitoring of phone calls and emails of Americas, plans to consolidate much of the country's domestic spying into a new desk at the CIA, calling it a "domestic terrorism prevention" operation. The desk will oversee not only NSA's increased monitoring of electronic communications by Americans but also the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's "terrorist information awareness" program that monitors travel and financial activities by Americans by gathering real-time data from banks, airlines, travel agencies and credit card companies. The CIA operation will also coordinate with the Pentagon's domestic spying program that monitors activities of anti-war groups, organizations critical of the Bush administrations and others tagged as enemies of the state. Infowars.com 'Last week, New Mexico Democrat Jeff Bingaman went on an Albuquerque talk radio and declared his support for the so-called "Fairness Doctrine," the FCC regulation that requires broadcasters to present "opposing viewpoints." In 1987, the FCC abolished the doctrine, stating that it restricted the journalistic freedom of broadcasters, and as a result Congress attempted to codify and reimpose the law. President Reagan, however, vetoed this legislation, and when Congress tried again in 1991 their effort stalled under a veto threat by then president H.W. Bush. Democrats have not abandoned their effort to restrict talk radio. In addition to Bingaman, House Speaker Pelosi and senator Richard Durbin have expressed a desire to limit the constitutional rights of broadcasters. In June, Pelosi told John Gizzi of Human Events she supports the doctrine and the Democrats would deal with it after the election. Some big names, according to John Eggerton, writing for Broadcasting & Cable, support the reimposition of the Fairness Doctrine, including John Kerry and John Edwards. Edwards went so far as to suggest the doctrine would become part of his "media agenda" if he was elected. Other Democrats in favor of regulating the First Amendment include John Dingell, Louise Slaughter, and unfortunately Dennis Kucinich. Obama has said he would not seek to reimpose the Fairness Doctrine if elected. However, as J. D. Longstreet notes, Obama's campaign trail promises are hardly something "you want to hang your hat on," especially when the Democrat controlled Congress appears ready to stifle the competition. Of course, as Bill Clinton noted on the 50th anniversary of the CIA, by "necessity, the American people will never know the full story of your courage," or criminality, so we will probably never know the full list of agency atrocities and violations. "Microsoft has just been awarded a patent for technology designed to automatically detect and remove 'undesired words or phrases' from all manner of digital communications, ranging from YouTube broadcasts to internet chat and songs," writes Mark Harris. According to Mr. Harris, Microsoft will release this technology to protect children, which is the usual explanation. "The patent describes a system that listens out for phonemes (word fragments) likely to be part of a swearword. If it thinks it hears a forbidden phrase, the software either fades out the offending syllables or simply replaces the rude word with a similar-sounding but clean alternative lifted from earlier speech without a second's delay." Of course, defining "rude" will be left up to a corporate censor. It will not be limited to "explicit rap music." It may very well include phrases such as "9/11 truth" and other political slogans at odds with the government. For instance, Google's behavior is not limited to DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) legal complaints, censoring search results on its Google China service, or training training police in India how to find "objectionable" material. "It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy," Biden told an audience in Seattle this past weekend. "Remember I said it standing here if you don't remember anything else I said. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy." The assured tone with which Biden delivered his forecast was staggeringly convincing, and left the observer in no doubt that there will be a major world crisis shortly after Obama takes office. "Mark my words, mark my words," Biden stressed, adding that "tough" and "unpopular" foreign policy decisions will have to be made. "I promise you it will occur," Biden added, "As a student of history and having served with seven presidents, I guarantee you it is going to happen." Biden's use of the word "generated" is even more startling. One of the dictionary definitions we find for the word "generated" is "to bring into existence; cause to be; produce," which begs the question, will this be another staged and manufactured crisis like the 9/11 attacks, which occurred less than 8 months after Bush took office? Or will it be something even more serious, a nuclear conflagration involving Russia or Iran? John McCain raised the specter of nuclear war yesterday when he warned that the United States faces "many challenges here at home, and many enemies abroad in this dangerous world," before mentioning the 1962 Cuban Missile crisis. Echoing Biden's comments, McCain said the next president "won't have time to get used to the office" and "I know how close we came to a nuclear war and I will not be a president that needs to be tested. I have been tested. Senator Obama has not." What is the test to which McCain and Biden refer, and how can they be so sure that it will arrive shortly after Obama takes office should he win the election as expected? What was Colin Powell referring to on Meet The Press when he said, "There's going to be a crisis which will come along on the 21st, 22nd of January that we don't even know about right now." The most likely scenario seems to revolve around Iran announcing, or the U.S. government claiming, that they are ready to build their first nuclear bomb. Indeed, the Mossad front news outlet Debka File reported yesterday that "Iran will be ready to build its first bomb just one month after the next US president is sworn in." The very next sentence of the report ties this in with Biden's promise of an international crisis immediately after Obama takes office. "DEBKAfile's military sources cite the new US timeline: By late January, 2009, Iran will have accumulated enough low-grade enriched uranium (up to 5%) for its "break-out" to weapons grade (90%) material within a short time. For this, the Iranians have achieved the necessary technology. In February, they can move on to start building their first nuclear bomb," according to the report. Of course, the legitimacy of these claims are likely to be completely fabricated - the official U.S. National Intelligence Estimate concluded in December that Iran had suspended its nuclear weapons campaign in late 2003 - but the Israelis may be laying the groundwork for a propaganda offensive similar to the "weapons of mass destruction" scam that preceded the invasion of Iraq. Will the military assault on Iran occur not under the highly unpopular Bush administration, as many had predicted, but under an Obama presidency? Riding into office on a wave of popular approval and support, Obama will have the political capital to get the country behind the attack if the threat of imminent danger is cited - or at least stand by and allow Israel to do the dirty work.
