Mission Inn There it is, rising from Riverside's 215 freeway, among strip malls and aging buildings, like the crown jewel of Suburbia. Welcome to the Mission Inn in Riverside — a National historic landmark that has hosted 10 U.S. Presidents, countless luminaries, and even a movie star or two. This beautiful destination hotel began its life in 1876 as a 12-room adobe and soon grew into one of the West's grandest getaways. It would take owner Frank Miller 30 years to realize his vision, as he traveled the world, bringing back souvenirs and inspiration from the Orient, Europe and Spain. The California Missions were also a huge influence. The six-bell campanario gracing the entrance is modeled after San Gabriel Mission, the arches are based on those found at Mission San Juan Capistrano, and the wood beams inside the Music Room were inspired by Mission San Miguel. The vine-and-lantern draped pergola, which still graces the front entrance, originally led guests on the 1-mile path from the railway station to the hotel in grand style. Today, the Mission Inn remains one of California's premiere destination hotels, hosting four fine restaurants, an upscale jazz lounge, and luxurious Tuscan spa. If you can, book a stay in the Glenwood rooms, which overlook the Spanish Patio. You'll have a great view of the 16th-century Glockenspiel, which rotates every 15 minutes with figures of an Indian, Junipero Serra, Juan Baptista De Anza and a Franciscan Monk. If you decide to visit the Mission Inn, I highly recommend the 75-minute walking tour, offered by docents at the Mission Inn Museum. It's a great way to see parts of the hotel that aren't open to the general public and learn a little bit more about the Mission Inn history. One of the most mysterious sights inside the hotel and along the roofline are tiny 4-foot doors, seemingly leading to nowhere. Word has it that Frank Miller would escape into these rooms to escape from his sister Alice, who was a very large woman. (Alice managed the hotel until her death in 1940s.) Part hotel, part museum, the Mission Inn's antiques have an estimated worth of at least $7 million. The St. Francis of Assisi chapel, site of countless destination weddings, is home to seven Tiffany stained glass windows and a gold-leaf Rayas cedar altar from the 1700s. The Inn is also famous for historic bell collection (including the oldest dated bell on record from A.D. 1247 and the Nanking Temple Bell), and the only complete set of Henry Chapman Fords California Mission paintings. Look closely into the cupola and youll see tiny scenes from Helen Hunt Jacksons book, Ramona, in each window. In 1891, President Benjamin Harrison became the first U.S. president to visit Frank Miller's famous hotel. You can see portraits of other visiting presidents on the walls outside the Presidential Lounge, and even sit in President William Taft's large chair, which was commissioned by Miller for a banquet. Whether you come for the day, or sneak away for a long weekend, you're sure to enjoy this historic piece of Americana. DSR - Holidae Inn Flow Dirty South Rydaz or DSR is a southern musical rap group from Dallas, Texas with current members Big Tuck, Tum Tum, Fat Bastard, Double T, Lil' Ronnie,and Addiction. Dj Curious formed the group D.S.R. by compiling together the best rappers from the Dallas area. Dj Curious worked with the original members Big Tuck, Addition & o'e Tha Thrilla (DSP), P-Cotrain & A-Wax per his mixtape series Dj Curious Presents... George Lopez saw that Dj Curious had put together some great mixtapes using Dallas Freestyle Artists and wanted to take the underground rap in Dallas, Tx to another level. George Lopez got with Dj Curious and asked him to start a group called Dirty South Rydaz (DSR) which would consist of the best freestyle artist that rapped for Dj Curious at the time. After a few weeks of contemplating doing this, Dj Curious got his core members together and recorded "The Freestyle Massacre Vol. 1" in January of 2002. Upon completing "Freestyle Massacre" Dj Curious ran into an old friend Chopper at T-Town Music Store while dropping off the master disk for pressing. Chopper told Dj Curious that he and some just recorded a demo and wanted to get down with DSR. Dj Curious asked for the demo and Chopper stated that was their only copy and insisted that he and his friends freestyle for him, the friends were Tum-Tum, Fat Bastard, and Double-T. After that they were put into the group and into the recording studio two weeks later recording "From Dallas To The Kappa Vol. 2". Dj Curious & George Lopez brought both clicks together and made the classic "Untammed Gorillas Vol.3" Double Disk. This Album was recorded in March of 2002. Then in the summer of 2002 (June) the Dirty South Rydaz recorded "The Pre-Game Vol. 4" DSR's ONLY Freestyle Album (No Pen or No Pad). After this album they couldn't be denied and their buzz picked up and they started recording their first studio album with original tracks in July. The Album & "Vol. 5" was recored at the same time. The "Vol. 5" mixtape was released in August of 2002 and The Album was released shortly thereafter in September of 2002. But along with success comes problems, Founding member Dj Curious & George Lopez childhood friends came into differences. So they came to a mutual agreement to he would leave the group. But the Dirty South Rydaz continued to put together countless hit underground albums & mixtapes which lead to the signing to Universal Records.
