2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt by Edmunds' Inside Line Ford doesn't build Mustangs to fly. That was true back in 1968 when Steve McQueen sent a GT 390 soaring over the hills of San Francisco in Bullitt. And it's true of the new 315-horsepower 2008 Mustang Bullitt. We jumped it anyway. Not because we wanted to, but because we had to. It's a Mustang Bullitt, and that means it's gotta fly. 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Coupe by Inside Line http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FullTests/articleId=125288?tid=edmunds.il.home.photopanel..1.* We come to our first serious corner on Glendora Mountain Road, and the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Coupe delivers the unexpected. It turns into a tight left-hander with the haste and hunger of an import sport compact. Perhaps most surprising of all, it gives the impression of being happy to do it. Spy Video: 2010 Ford Mustang by Inside Line http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/GeneralFuture/articleId=126178?tid=edmunds.il.futurelanding.latestnews..3.* You have to look closely to see the changes in the 2010 Ford Mustang, the car that will be battling the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro for our attention. Our spy shooters were able to capture video of several prototypes on the streets of Michigan, and the cars all wore several layers of heavy camouflage. There are some visible changes to the 2010 Mustang's grille, as some of these prototypes show some extra brightwork around the headlights. The hood has a slightly different shape as well, but it's probably nothing more than a little Styrofoam to hide the true design. It doesn't appear as though heavy sheet metal changes are in the works for the rest of the car, since the overall greenhouse appears unchanged. Both the coupe and convertible test mules were wearing a new set of double-spoke wheels along with relatively low-profile tires. Changes to the rear end are harder to discern. Multiple pieces of disguise hide the true shape of the rear bumper, while the lights appear unchanged from the current model. Most of the changes are expected to come under the hood. A 5.0-liter V8 will replace the current 4.6-liter V8, which should result in a decent bump in horsepower. It's not an all-new engine, though, merely an enlarged version of the 24-valve SOHC V8. The real news will be the introduction of Ford's new EcoBoost 3.5-liter V6. Its twin-turbo setup should deliver more than 300 hp while delivering superior mileage compared to the 5.0-liter V8. How Ford will pitch the new high-tech engine is tough to call, but expect some sort of special edition to highlight the new power plant. As finished as these prototypes look, the 2010 Ford Mustang isn't expected to go on sale until the fall of 2009. The EcoBoost-powered version will come even later. It sounds like a long way off, but the timing should give the new Mustang a little bit of breathing room after the introduction of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro earlier in the year. 2008 Audi S5 by Edmunds' Inside Line http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FullTests/articleId=121924 Audi has figured out that a coupe should be beautiful, not merely exclusive. Even as the typical German sedan has become a beast with swollen fenders and a massive grille, designed to bludgeon the meek out of the fast lane on the autobahn, the 2008 Audi S5 has a different look. Its curving contours are leaner, more expressive and more energetic. Tags: Car Auto Driving 2008 Audi S5 Edmunds' Inside Line |

This rear-drive two-door — in 230-horsepower 128i and 300-hp 135i form — "will reinvent the niche that the legendary BMW 2002 created," says the company. 2008 Mazda 6 by Edmunds' Inside Line For Full Article: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=122566 FRANKFURT, Germany — The midsize Mazda 6 enters its second generation with a clean, albeit evolutionary, exterior design. At today's 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show, the Japanese automaker announced significant improvements to its Mazda 6 in nearly every important area, from size to performance. Available in Europe once again as a sedan, hatchback and wagon, the new Mazda 6 is a bit taller and wider, with a longer wheelbase, which results in a roomier cabin and more stable ride. The cars are more slippery, too — the sedan and hatchback have a drag coefficient of 0.27 and the wagon, 0.28 — with better torsional rigidity. The New Jaguar: 2009 Jaguar XF Supercharged by Inside Line http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FullTests/articleId=125955?tid=edmunds.il.home.photopanel..3.* Bruised and bloodied, Jaguar's fate now rests in the hands of Indian automaker Tata. The only certainty of its future is that it is uncertain. Now forget about all that. Turn your attention to the product, which is ultimately the most critical aspect of an automaker's success. Here we have the 2009 Jaguar XF Supercharged, purportedly ready to do battle with the big German sedans like the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, cars that know the luxury sedan game. Only time will tell the story of Jaguar as it enters the next phase of its existence, but we can peek a few pages forward simply by testing the fruits of its labor. 2009 Honda Pilot Full Test by Inside Line http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FullTests/articleId=127749?tid=edmunds.il.home.photopanel..3.* If the 2009 Honda Pilot proves anything, it's that things have changed over at Honda. One look at the new Pilot's zany front grille announces that the company has unapologetically embraced vehicular embellishment. The overall shape is only slightly less boxy than that of the Jeep Commander, and there are so many creases and character lines in the sheet metal that the new Pilot reminds us of 4,609 pounds of origami. Albeit manly, butch, abstract-expressionist origami. Because this full-size crossover wants to prove it's a real SUV, tough enough to take on that whole camping, motorcycle-towing, snow-busting outdoor thing even while preserving its family-friendly nature. The first-generation Pilot looked like a shrunken version of the 1968 International Harvester Travelall. The 2009 Honda Pilot looks like it's ready to star in a futuristic remake of Soylent Green. Still, under the macho posturing you'll find a simple, solid Honda, which is as it should be. Tags: 2009 Honda Pilot Full Test Edmunds Inside Line auto motor car |

2008 Paris Auto Show Highlights by Edmunds Inside Line FOR FULL PARIS AUTO SHOW COVERAGE, CHECK OUT: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/autoshows/paris/2008/index.html?tid=edmunds.il.home.photopanel..1.* To certain people (we'll call them women), going to Paris in the fall means shopping on the Champs-Élysées, nibbling on pastries at sidewalk cafes and taking in the sights of one of the world's most beautiful cities. That's all fine and good, but when we head to the City of Lights this October it will be for one thing and one thing only: the 2008 Paris Auto Show. With no competition from Frankfurt or Tokyo, the Paris auto show is the only game in town this fall, so there are guaranteed to be several world premieres at the Porte de Versailles convention center. It should be a mix of everything from small and efficient to expensive and powerful. GM has already promised a firsthand look at the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze, a small sedan that will go on sale in Europe next year. Not to be outdone in the efficiency game, Honda will unveil an all-new hybrid sedan aimed directly at the Toyota Prius. With a base price under $20,000, it's designed to bring hybrid technology to the masses. On the more expensive side, we'll see the Ferrari California and the 2009 BMW 7 Series. The BMW will be joined by an ActiveHybird version of this car as well as the 3 Series refresh and a concept version of the X1 compact SUV. There will be additional news from Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Nissan. Coverage starts on October 2, so check back then for all the latest from Europe's only major auto show this fall. 2007 Jaguar XK Convertible by Edmunds' Inside Line Preparing for a proper drive in the 2007 Jaguar XK Convertible brings on a mix of emotions. In many ways this is a brilliant topless GT that makes us want to indulge in its opulence. It's magnificently easy on the eyes, makes all the right sounds and is quick enough to not embarrass itself. Hell, the car didn't even leak one drop of fluid — on the ground or the driver. Better still, the urge to toss our stringback gloves into the wind was undeniable. Although SEMA stands for the Specialty Equipment Market Association, rarely is this equipment dedicated to burning vegetable fat or unleaded soy-ohol. Beyond Infiniti? 2009 Infiniti FX50 by Inside Line http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FullTests/articleId=125872 It would be easy to dismiss the 2009 Infiniti FX50 as completely irrelevant, a mutant crossover vehicle. Going on past sales figures alone, you'd be right, because total 2007 sales of the Infiniti FX45 numbered just 1,598 units, about a tenth of the 2007 Infiniti FX35s that found their way to the street during the same period last year. But this wouldn't be entirely fair. The all-wheel-drive FX came to market in 2003 as one of the first crossovers that had morphed into a high-performance vehicle — a kind of personalized coupe, only with cargo capacity. The FX looked like a Bionic Cheetah, showcased some segment-leading technology and delivered road-going performance on par with European-brand sport-utilities the BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne. Unfortunately, no one seemed to care. Yet now people are talking about personal-style crossovers. Have times finally caught up with the 2009 Infiniti FX50?
