Miele Callisto versus Kenmore Canister In continuation of the GoVacuum video series, we have created a video review of two vacuum cleaners. We put to the test the Miele Callisto S5280 and the Kenmore Canister Vacuum. Our decision to put these two vacuums head to head stems from the Consumer Reports magazine. For years, the Consumer Reports magazine has rated the Kenmore Canister number one. The Miele has been ranked at 5 or 6. Having many, many years of industry experience, the Consumer Reports ranking has left us baffled because the Miele Callisto is one of our best canisters because of its high quality, unbeatable performance and long life. In order to compare the vacuums, we are performing three tests with the machines. First, the machines' filtration systems are being tested with the use of a laser particle scanner which calculates the number of particles being emitted from the exhaust filter on the canisters. Second, the machines are tested on their ability to side clean, meaning how well the machines' power heads can clean when against a wall or any other surface. Lastly, the machines are tested on their maneuverability. One of the things that people complain most about when considering canisters is how difficult they are to maneuver, especially when you have the feeling that you are dragging a dead weight behind you. All in all, the Miele Callisto definitely came out on top as the winner. But you will have to check out the video to see the results yourself. Kenmore is located north and west of Fenway, and shares many of the same attributes of Fenway. Fenway Park is in fact located in Kenmore, right across the Mass Pike from Kenmore Square. The area is however less isolated and has a slightly more upscale atmosphere due to its proximity to the suburb of Brookline. Many students from nearby Boston University and Northeastern University reside in the neighborhood. The area is almost entirely brick, walk-up buildings and brownstone townhouses, although over the last 20 years almost every residential building in Kenmore has been purchased by Boston University and turned into dorms, especially in the Audubon Circle area between Beacon Street and Commonwealth Avenue. Kenmore Duo-Power What a monstrosity this is, a rare monstrosity but a monstrosity nonetheless. A 1970's Sears Kenmore Duo-Power upright designed to compete with the Hoover Dial-A-Matic. This one was made by Whirlpool, and I don't think either Whirlpool or Hoover got the clean-air design right on the first try...to me, both have equal disadvantages. The Duo-Power had the disadvantage of a sleeve-bearing brushroll and being very cheaply made as you can see, no wonder many didn't survive. At least the handle doesn't wobble... I got this one from Alex B. as a trade for an 80's plastic-base Convertible. How to thread a Kenmore Vintage Sewing Machine 1. Run thread thru first hook. 2. Then run down to the tension knob. 3. With your index finger, lightly push the wire loop upward. 4. Bring thread around around the hook. Then release the wire hook. 5. Bring the thread back up to the lever. 6. Bring the thread back down to the thread clip. 7. Bring the thread back down the needle thread clip. 8. Now insert the thread into the front of the needle. 9. Make sure to pull the thread at least 1 inches away before sewing.
