LASIK MY Left eye LASIK is the acronym for Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis, a type of refractive laser eye surgery performed by ophthalmologists for correcting myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.[1] The procedure is preferred to photorefractive keratectomy, PRK, because it requires less time for the patient's full recovery, and the patient feels less pain, overall. Many patients choose LASIK as an alternative to wearing corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses. Tags: LASIK |

LASIK Eye Surgery, CustomVue Wavefront-guided LASIK My surgery, the following is from Dr. Berg's website on how LASIK is performed. Step 1 First the surgeon applies a few numbing eye-drops to the eye prior to the procedure, and the surgeon marks the cornea with water-soluble ink to guide replacement of the flap. Step 2 A thin corneal flap is created using an instrument called a microkeratome. This part of the procedure is called keratectomy and makes a "flap" in the corneal tissue on the central part of the eye, which is gently folded back, exposing the underlying layers of the cornea. This flap can also be created with the use of the Intralase laser. Step 3 The surgeon then uses the excimer laser to apply a cool beam of light to gently even out the curvature of the cornea this is done with CustomVue Wavefront guided technology. The protective corneal flap is then gently placed back in its original position and begins healing immediately. Step 4 After the flap is gently laid back, a few moisturizing drops are applied to soothe your eye and speed recovery. The cross-section view of the cornea shows the reduced (flatter) corneal curvature (exaggerated for clarity). Tags: Lasik surgery CustomVue eye Laura Barron |

The Fladen Eye and Lasik Center: PRK Dr. Todd Fladen, Medical Director of The Fladen Eye and Lasik Center, in Canton, Ohio performs PhotoRefractive Keratectomy (PRK) Laser Vision Correction Surgery for the correction of Nearsightedness (Myopia) and Astigmastism. This procedure is unedited. It begins with placing a solution in a central well on the surface of the cornea for 45 seconds. This solution allow easy removal of the cornea surface cells or epithelium; thereby exposing the cornea basement membrane. The eye is flushed with saline prior to the next step. The laser is then centered on the pupil and 20 seconds of painless laser light is used to reshape the cornea. A contact lens is placed on the cornea surface for several days. In this procedure, no flaps either mechanical or with a laser are required. New York LASEK With Park Avenue Laser Vision http://www.parkavenuelaser.com LASEK (Laser-Assisted Subepithelial Keratectomy) is the most recent procedure to come out, and combines the best characteristics of LASIK (rapid recovery, no pain) and PRK (no cutting, no flap, improved safety). Dr. Chynn was one of the 1st refractive surgeons in NYC to perform LASEK, as well as one of the first in the New York-TriState area to combine LASEK with CustomVue, for SuperVision. Here's how LASEK works: A flap of epithelial tissue is created with a special solution by Dr. Chynn, who then gently moves it out of the central optical zone with a sterile Weck-Cell cellulose sponge. This allows the central cornea to be reshaped with the VISX excimer laser (www.VISX.com). Tags: New York Lasik NY lasik Yorks Affordable LASIK Dr Emil Chynn |

A study at the University of Bari, Italy, involving 1,445 people between the ages of 65 through 85, suggests that those who routinely drank one alcoholic beverage per day developed dementia and Alzheimer's disease at a slower rate than those who didn't. Travis's PRK, Right Eye ***Note: this video isn't for the squeamish*** This is the Dr's view of my right eye (I'm upside down). This is part 1 of 3 but the other 2 parts are the sequence of laser tests between the procedures and then the left eye, which follows the same exact procedure as the right one. All-in-all it's a little over 18 minutes total. The surgery is PRK (similar to LASIK or LASEK). It was performed by Dr. Scott M. MacRae, M.D. at Strong Vision, in Rochester, NY. There was no sound on the DVD they gave me so I added NIN 2 Ghosts I and 32 Ghosts IV, since they fit the length and even seem to sync up pretty well. I wrote up a fairly detailed description of the procedure and my experience at my blog: http://travis.servebeer.com/blog.net/archive/2008/03/30/prk_eye_surgery_follow_up.aspx Tags: medicine 2008 eye PRK laser surgery Rochester NIN Ghosts eyeball corrective vision photorefractive keratectomy |

LASEK Surgery - Dr. Mark Volpicelli LASEK (Laser Epithelial Keratomileusis) LASEK eye surgery is the most advanced, high-tech form of PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy). PRK was the first laser vision correction procedure approved by the FDA and it continues to be a safe, effective choice for people who are not LASIK candidates. Some people can not have LASIK because their corneas are too thin or scarred. A healthy eye needs a certain amount of corneal thickness for the cornea to retain its strength and stability. For some patients, the cornea may not be thick enough for the surgeon to make the protective flap needed in the LASIK procedure. In such cases, Drs. Beers and Volpicelli perform an advanced surface ablation treatment called LASEK. Drs. Beers, Volpicelli and Shahinian are widely recognized as experts in LASEK surgery. They have each given numerous talks about the benefits of LASEK and other surface treatments for people with thin corneas at national conferences. Dr. Shahinian teaches courses on LASEK at the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and has written several publications on the procedure. He established the Laser Vision Correction Program at Stanford University Medical Center and served as Program Director from 1993 to 1996. How it Works LASEK displaces the top superficial layer of the cornea called the epithelium. A painless alcohol-based solution is placed on the eye to loosen the epithelial cells, which are then removed in a thin sheet. This prepares the eye for the same VISX Wavefront™ Excimer laser treatment that is used in LASIK. After the laser treatment, the thin sheet of cells is carefully repositioned on the surface of the cornea. Many doctors still perform the original PRK procedure which permanently removes the top layer of cells rather than repositioning them. It is the careful repositioning of the top layer of cells in LASEK that allows for a faster and more comfortable recovery compared to PRK. Tags: LASEK Surgery Dr. Mark Volpicelli |

My "Eye-Opening" Experience PRK on my right eye (-4.00) :::THE OPERATION::: The metal clamp that held my eye open brought about some discomfort (can't imagine how it must feel like for Asians with even smaller eyes 0_0) but the procedure was pretty much pain-free. Visual clarity came within the last few seconds of the laser treatment; I was very estactic when I saw the blinking red blur (my given focal point for the entire duration of the operation) turn into a crisp red dot! Feels like my vision's been exhumed from the lowest, nastiest, blurriest pits of despair! It's odd how everything looks a little bigger now but I'm loving every enlarged second of it. :::RECOVERY::: Recovery was definitely a b!+ch I'm glad I had both eyes done on the same day, 'cause I wouldn't want to experience the discomfort again; but truth be told, 2-3 days of sporadic tearing & irritation is way better than risking the corneal flap complications that come with LASIK. :::AS OF NOW::: No more glasses and no more contact lenses! Thing is I'm experiencing a bit of corneal hazing =( sucks but I've been told that it will fade over time. Can't wait to live the rest of my life with perfect vision =) ---------------------------------------- Music in this video: Slow Me Down- Emmy Rossum Beautiful- Late Night Alumni Tags: PRK Photorefractive keratectomy good review laser eye surgery vision enhancement |
