It doesn't have to be anything fancy. It can be short and simple. Knowing she's been imprisoned for years, and for no reason It's cruel and pitiful that she stay confined when she knew her husband was very ill. She was not able to be by his side when he died of cancer, but I know in my heart they were both in each other's thoughts and souls during Michael's last days of life. I'm sure they both were in one another's minds and hearts every single day. Write a school paper on her if you are allowed to pick the person. To any teachers out there -- Please have one day of awareness, teaching your students about what democracy is, how precious freedoms are. Introduce your students to Aung San Suu Kyi. Have the students write letters for her. She represents freedom, democracy, elegance and grace. Fight the good fight, and this is one of those good "fights". Aung San Suu Kyi is about 62 years old now. She's done absolutely nothing wrong. She is a graceful, humble, decent caring human There are no regular visiting hours for her. Than Shwe is Burma's leader of one of the world's most BRUTAL regimes. Than Shwe should not be in power. He lost the election. Perhaps the person that replaces him will show the world what a great leader is by freeing Suu Kyi, and all of the political prisoners. This will be a man history will look back on with fondness, a leader the people of Myanmar (and the world) will respect. Last month she celebrated her birthday, isolated. I can't help but think about her sons, how they worry about her and hurt for her. This is their mother, and she's been unjustly imprisoned, for years. Depuis sa rencontre avec Aung San Suu Kyi il y a une dizaine d'années, Jane Birkin soutient inlassablement le peuple birman. Cette chanson émouvante et militante est une plaidoirie pour le combat que mène Aung San Suu Kyi pour la démocratie au Myanmar (ex-Birmanie). Aujourd'hui, Aung San Suu Kyi a 63 ans. Elle a passé plus de 12 des 18 dernières années de sa vie soit en prison, soit en résidence surveillée, le plus souvent coupée du monde par la Junte birmane. Son parti, la Ligue Nationale pour la Démocratie avait gagné les élections en 1990, mais la Junte a ignoré les résultats et s'est maintenue au pouvoir par des violations systématiques et à grande échelle des droits humains. Elle a réduit les Birmans à vivre sous les menaces et dans la peur. Pays riche et peuple réduit à la misère, enfants sous alimentés et parfois contraints à être soldats, jeunes emprisonnés et torturés, censure qui empêche les journalistes étrangers de rentrer dans le pays pour témoigner des turpitudes de la Junte, journalistes locaux et défenseurs des droits humains muselés. Voici le triste mais véridique tableau des souffrances du peuple birman. Indignée par la répression des moines et de la population birmane à l'automne 2007, Jane Birkin a écrit cette chanson et l'a interprétée depuis sur les scènes du monde entier. La chanteuse militante vient de terminer à Paris l'enregistrement en studio de cette plaidoirie en faveur d'Aung San Suu Kyi, dont le texte reprend des informations diffusées par Amnesty International.
