"Las Vegas Nights" England YouTuber "AjdPadbury" (Anthony) and I went for a drive along the Las Vegas Strip the other night. I drove (and watched out for OTHER sightseein' motorists! LOL), as Anthony worked the camcorder. The "Gloria" of Colombia, "Festival of Sail", San Diego This beautifully majestic tall masted "barque" made a fantastic grand entrance to San Diego last Wednesday, with many crew members standing aloft, and one lucky crew member standing way, WAYYYY up on a mast (wish that could have been ME!! Talk about a VIEW!!! LOL). A barque is "a vessel with at least three masts, all of them fully square rigged except for the sternmost one, which is fore-and-aft rigged". "Gloria" was named after the wife of General Rebeiz, one of three Columbian leaders who advocated the commissioning of sail training ships for the Columbian Navy. In 1968 she was launched for the Armada National de Colombia, specifically for the naval academy's sail training program. Gloria's four masts and 23 sails provide a total sail area of 15,000 square feet!!!! The ship accommodates up to 10 officers, a professional crew of 50 and up to 75 cadets, and has visited over 143 different ports around the world. "Wandering Around An Old Ferry Boat", San Diego Museum When I moved to San Diego, I was happy to see an old friend at the Maritime Museum. The "Berkeley" is an 1898 steam ferry that operated for 60 years on San Francisco Bay, and I vividly remember riding on this ferry boat when I was a little kid growing up in the San Francisco area, so it was great to learn that the Berkeley still survives this half century later, and can now live out her life being visited by people who never got to experience a journey on such boats :) (For that matter, it's great to learn that I'M still around this half century later! LOL) The funny thing is that, as a little kid, the seating benches looked HUGE, so when walking around the boat now as a 6'-1" tall baby boomer, the benches NOW look really SMALL! The San Diego Maritime Museum has an interesting historical tidbit about the Berkeley. Since the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges didn't yet exist across San Francisco Bay in 1906, during the massive earthquake and subsequent fire of that year, the Berkeley carried thousands of survivors to safety. Her captain and crew, not even knowing the fate of their OWN families, worked night and day to help victims escape the burning shores of San Francisco. OH!, people have been asking me about this . . . the rider whose picture is shown 50 seconds into the video, was launched off his horse when the horse stopped, and the rider ended up WAYYYYY beyond the jump, but thankfully was just shaken up . . . the horse was fine too, and stopped without even touching the jump . . . "Kathy's Song" This is another of my favorite songs. It's by Simon & Garfunkel, and was released in the '60s. The amazing singer Eva Cassidy also did a version of the song before she died at the age of 33, so I mixed the two song versions together to see what it would sound like, had they been able to perform the song together. The photos are ones I took in England during various trips, and from when I lived there. "Lion Cubs Playing" Meet "Bentley" and "Swifty", who are a pair of four and a half month old lion cub brothers. These cubs were playing in the lion habitat inside the MGM Grand Casino & Hotel in Las Vegas this week, so I wanted to share them with you all. They were SOOO CUTE!!! . . . and GEEZ! they have large paws!!! LOL . . . I think they'll be very, very, very big cats when full grown!!
