Obama himself told the New York Times that Fox's disinformation is likely costing him a couple points in the polls. Today, Obama's campaign stepped up their pushback to Fox News: in response to McCain's latest lie about "spreading the wealth," spokesman Bill Burton called out the biased messenger right along with the dishonest message: "This is a fake news controversy drummed up by the all too common alliance of Fox News, the Drudge Report and John McCain, who apparently decided to close out his campaign with the same false, desperate attacks that have failed for months. In this seven year old interview, Senator Obama did not say that the courts should get into the business of redistributing wealth at all. Americans know that the real choice in this election is between four more years of Bush-McCain policies that redistribute billions to billionaires and big corporations and Barack Obama's plan to help the middle class by giving tax relief to 95% of workers and companies that create new jobs here in America. That's the change we need, and no amount of eleventh-hour distractions from the McCain campaign will change that," said Obama-Biden campaign spokesman Bill Burton. We've come a long way. Back in 2007, when Obama dropped out of the Fox news debate, the only reason given was that CNN seemed a more "appropriate venue." Now that McCain's resorted exclusively to attacks on Obama, the go-to mouthpiece for Republican smears is working overtime. The more they're called out for their bias, the less credibility they'll have to push lies. Fox isn't news. And as we (potentially) head into a new Democratic administration, it's crucial we make clear that what they broadcast can't be trusted. Great to see Obama continuing this fight. The judge gave him credit for cooperating with investigators, but scolded him for disgracing the sport. He could have been sentenced to much more prison time under federal guidelines, but the judge gave Donaghy credit for his extensive cooperation with investigators. His lawyer was pleased. ((John Lauro, Defense Attorney)) "We're thrilled with the outcome today in court." Donaghy pled guilty last year to taking payoffs from a professional gambler for providing recommendations on how to bet on games, using his inside knowledge of players and teams. He also admitted betting on games where he officiated as referee. A counselor hired by the defense said Donaghy was a pathological gambler, unable to control his impulses to seek thrills through gambling. The father of four is now unemployed and divorced, living on a friend's couch until he reports to prison in September. "Anybody who has dealt with an addictive disease knows the impact of that disease. There's no question in my mind that but for his gambling problem, he would have never done something like this." The "National Basketball Referees Association" called Donaghy a selfish person who forever compromised the game, saying: TAKE FS: "Though we believe no sentence would ever be able to repair or justify the damage caused by this criminal and scoundrel we are glad to finally put this behind us," --- Lamell McMorris, National Basketball Referees Association. Donaghy had alleged more widespread corruption among game officials, but no one else in the N-B-A has been charged in the case. And while the road ahead will be long, and the work will be hard, I know that we can steer ourselves out of this crisis -- because here in America we always rise to the moment, no matter how hard. And I am more hopeful than ever before that America will rise once again. But we must act right now. Next week, Congress will meet to address the spreading impact of the economic crisis. I urge them to pass at least a down-payment on a rescue plan that will create jobs, relieve the squeeze on families, and help get the economy growing again. In particular, we cannot afford to delay providing help for the more than one million Americans who will have exhausted their unemployment insurance by the end of this year. If Congress does not pass an immediate plan that gives the economy the boost it needs, I will make it my first order of business as President. Even as we dig ourselves out of this recession, we must also recognize that out of this economic crisis comes an opportunity to create new jobs, strengthen our middle class, and keep our economy competitive in the 21st century. That starts with the kinds of long-term investments that we've neglected for too long. That means putting two million Americans to work rebuilding our crumbling roads, bridges, and schools. It means investing $150 billion to build an American green energy economy that will create five million new jobs, while freeing our nation from the tyranny of foreign oil, and saving our planet for our children. It means making health care affordable for anyone who has it, accessible for anyone who wants it, and reducing costs for small businesses. And it also means giving every child the world-class education they need to compete with any worker, anywhere in the world. Doing all this will require not just new policies, but a new spirit of service and sacrifice, where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves, but each other. If this financial crisis has taught us anything, it's that we cannot have a thriving Wall Street while Main Street suffers -- in this country, we rise or fall as one nation; as one people. "The Kelsey Briggs Story." (True Story Original) ~ ~ Please read after you watch Kelsey's video ~ ~ Kelsey Briggs lost her life before the age of three due to Child Abuse. It is a Tragic story but one that must be shared.Hopefully Kelsey's story will touch your heart and you will be willing to step up to the plate and help children who can't help themselves. Please read her story below... Kelsey Briggs was born in Oklahoma on December 28,2002 after her parents Lance Briggs and Raye Dawn Smith were divorced. At the end of 2004 Raye Dawn Smith started dating a man named Michael Lee Porter. The first reported incident of suspected child abuse regarding Kelsey was made on Jan.17,2005. Kelsey Briggs grandmother Kathie Briggs was granted custody Jan.24,2005. Raye Dawn Smith married Michael Lee Porter on April 18,2005. On May 3,2005 Kelsey was taken out of her grandmothers care by OKDHS. Kelsey was put in protective custody because of leg injuries. At that time Raye Dawn was having unsupervised visitation with Kelsey, sometimes in the presence of Mike Porter which went against a court order. Raye and Mike had Kelsey more hours than did Kathie. May 4,2005 Kelsey was moved to her maternal Grandmother Gayla Smith. Kelsey suffered months of documented abuse, which included FOUR CONFIRMED cases of abuse.Confirmed abuse were the abrasions and bruises on her bottom in January 2005, and the two spiral breaks to her legs in April 2005. June 15,2005 Judge Craig Key sent Kelsey back to her mom and stepfather.The judge stated, "Kelsey's abuser was unknown." Kelsey was visited by a social worker every week. Her biological father Lance Briggs was a soldier in Iraq he was undergoing care at a treatment facility for a back injury and was in the process of checking out from his duty in Fort Benning,Georgia. Lance was schedueled to be home within a week or so. On October 11,2005 Kelsey was murdered. Raye Dawn and Michael Porter were the only ones around Kelsey in the hour leading up to her death. Raye went to pick Whitney up from school.Whitney is Mike Porter's Bio daughter from a previous relationship. The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the abdomen,it was ruled a Homicide. Kelsey Briggs died just days before her father was to return. Two weeks later Porter was arrested on first degee murder. Her mother was later charged with two felonies of Child Neglect and Enabling Child Abuse. In April of 2006 Kelsey's body was exhumed for a second autopsy where sexual abuse was documented. The Stepfather's charges were amended to add the sexual abuse. Porter and Smith divorced after Kelsey's death. On February 2,2007 a plea negotiation was entered and approved by the paternal family. The stepfather plead guilty to a reduced charge of Enabling Child Abuse and received 30 years in prison. He has no possibility of parole for 25.5years. Kelsey's mother Raye Dawn Smith went on trial July 9,2007. She was found guilty of enabling child abuse, she will serve 27 years in prison, without the possibility of parole for 23 years. Alot of people failed Kelsey. Remember her story the next time you think a child is being abused.Please report it,if you don't, that child may suffer the same fate as Kelsey.Please don't let that happen. A new law has been named for Kelsey in Oklahoma to prevent this type of failure in the Oklahoma State System.
