Pistol Pete Maravich - The Greatest This mix about my favourite basketball player, Pete Maravich. Since Pistol was a 70s player you probably don't know much about him. Maravich is an NBA legend and was inducted into the fall of hame in 1987; he holds nearly every single college scoring record and averaged 44.2 points a game without the three point line. About the Mix, I didn't want to add to many effects onto it because I just wanted to focus on the clips; however there are effects in the tittles and such. What this mix covers - All FG's from his 68 point game ( not including free throws ) - Highlights as a Tiger (college) - Highlights as a Hawk - Highlights as a Jazz - Highlights as a Celtic Best Watched Quicktime Loud Stream http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5-J2Spj7kg Download http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5-J2Spj7kg Download http://rapidshare.com/files/75470123...e_Greatest.mp4 ( 36mb, Small size ) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3252T5V4 ( 107mb, full screen size ) Tags: Pistol pete maravich lsu atlanta hawks jazz boston celtics 1970 mix nba basketball legand greatest greatness peter |

Pete Maravich - Pistol Pete Peter "Pistol Pete" Maravich (June 22, 1947 -- January 5, 1988) was an American basketball player known for his dazzling ballhandling, incredible shooting abilities, and creative passing. He learned at a very young age fundamental basketball and ball handling drills from his father coach Press Maravich. He would follow his father and coach throughout the eastern and gulf seaboards as a young man before exploding onto the National Basketball Association (NBA) in his own right. Maravich starred in college at Louisiana State University and for three NBA teams. Maravich is still the all-time leading NCAA Division I scorer, averaging a staggering 44.2 points per game, without the benefit of a three-point line and despite the fact that when Pete was in his first year of college, the NCAA had separate freshmen and varsity basketball teams and freshmen were not allowed to play on the varsity team. It was calculated by LSU coach Dale Brown that Maravich would have averaged 57 points per game with the benefit of a college three-point line. After graduating from LSU in 1970, Maravich was the third selection in the first round of that year's NBA player draft[2] and made league history when he signed a $1.6 million contract — one of the highest salaries at the time — with the Atlanta Hawks. He wasted little time becoming a prime time player by averaging 23.2 points per game his rookie season and being named to the NBA All-Rookie Team. After spending four seasons in Atlanta, Maravich was traded to the New Orleans Jazz for 8 players, where he peaked as an NBA showman and superstar. He made the All-NBA First Team in 1976 and 1977 and the All-NBA Second Team in 1973 and 1978. He led the NBA in scoring in the 1976-77 with 31.1 points per game. In ten NBA seasons, Maravich, a five time NBA All-Star, scored 15,948 points in 658 games for a 24.2 points per game average (16th All Time). His NBA single game high, a 68-point explosion before fouling out, came against the New York Knicks on February 25, 1977. Tags: basketball |

Remembering "Pistol" Pete Maravich Although he was a flashy ball-handler and passer, Maravich was best known for his scoring, as his nickname indicates. He shot early and often and made a high enough percentage to become college basketball's first and only point-a-minute scorer. Playing for his father, Press Maravich, at Louisiana State University, he scored 3,667 points in 83 games for an average of 44.2 a game over his three-year career. Maravich led the nation in scoring all three years, with averages of 43.8 in 1967-68, 44.2 in 1968-69, and 44.5 in 1969-70. He was a three-time All-American guard and he won the Rupp Trophy and Naismith Awards as the college player of the year in 1970. The 6-foot-5, 200-pounder delighted crowds at home and away, dashing up and down the court with his mop of hair flopping and his socks hanging down over his shoes. He joined the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA in 1970, averaged 23.2 points a game, and was named to the league's all-rookie team. Mononucleosis slowed him in his second season, but he averaged 26.1 points a game in 1972-73 and finished second in scoring with a 27.7 average the following season. Maravich went to an expansion team, the New Orleans Jazz, in 1974. The team moved to Salt Lake City and become known as the Utah Jazz in 1979. Maravich was released in early 1980 and signed with the Boston Celtics. He played out the season with them and then retired. Maravich led the NBA in scoring with 31.1 points per game in 1976-77. He was twice a first-team all-star and twice named to the second team. He retired in 1980 and died of a heart attack after a pickup playground game. This video was added Friday, June 22nd, in memory of what would have been his 60th birthday. Tags: nba amazing highlights |
