There are two ways of looking at it; the first way is drummer "A" vs. drummer "B" and asking who is best or who would win a competition? I believe this is wrong as neither drummer asked to be judged or entered into a competition. This is NOT what I am trying to do. I will say it again; this is not a competition and not what I am trying to do. The other way of looking at it is one of advanced appreciation. Let me explain what I mean. Take a drummer like Danny Carey; do you enjoy his music on its own without anything to compare it to? Yes, I do. Now take a drummer like Mike Portnoy, can you enjoy his music on its own without any comparison? Yes, I also do. But if I want to know how much I enjoy either piece or either drummer I need something to compare it against. Our first natural comparison is with ourselves. "I like Danny Carey, and will pay money to see Danny because he is better than me". Fair statement? I don't see Danny Carey lining up to see my clinics. Why do most of us appreciate Danny's drummer more then say Larry Mullins Jr's drummer? Because it is further from where we are. A lot of us can play what Larry plays so we think of him as a good or great drummer, but with Danny being so far pasted us we often think of him as extremely superior or a master. To take an appreciation to a more advanced level you need to compare with another higher standard. There should only be a small variation between your personal appreciation of two players like Danny and Mike, or Vinnie or Buddy. Who you like might change from day to day and that's fine, today you might like Danny more, tomorrow you're in a mood for Mike How do you know what Tool song or Elton John song you like best? Compare it to another Tool or Elton song right? What I am doing is not wrong. I am exercising my rights to free speech and I am offering you an opportunity to join me and share your opinion. There are no winners or losers, only good comments and bad comments. And I can guarantee you that at some point you have made a judgment call on a drummer based on another drummer. Being an older version of the software, the inverse kinematics tended to bog down after a few hundred frames, so I had to break the video down into many (un)manageable pieces. I did have one stupid extra bass pedal hit (not the pedal's fault, it was my own, I mean) during overdrive which knocked me down 2,000+ points but otherwise from that, definitely my best run. Also, while this isn't my 100th Rock Band video, it's my 100th video total, holy shit. You know, when I made that And Justice For All video those months ago, I just made it thinking that it'd only get a few thousand views by this point: I never dreamed i'd have over 6,000,000 total video views, over 6,000 subscribers, and 1.6 million + views on the AJFA video alone. EDIT: It's May 1st, almost 2 months later, but i'm up to 11,400,000+ total video views on my account, 12,000+ subscribers, and well over 2,000,000+ views on the AJFA video. Neil Peart Wannabe - Subdivisions I guess I want to say "thanks" to Neil, Geddy, and Alex for a fun hobby and for instilling in me a passion for music over the years. I will never forget when I first started drumming how influenced I was by your guys, especially Neil. I was about 15 when Moving Pictures came out; that album changed it all. I went to every concert since (14th row for Moving Pictures; front row during Signals, 28th row for Grace, and then lower bowl or lawn as I got older -- hate the crowds.) It has been a lot of fun playing to all your songs over the years. I was blessed to take my 15 year old son to see you in Detroit this year, so the torch has finally passed. I am teaching him drums now, and I know you have a new generation of fans. He has the advantage of a full-blown studio with V-Drums and soundproofing, unlike my parents that endured 6 hours of drumming a day with 5/8" drywall. Thanks guys for everything! Thanks Neil for the way you keep your toolbox filled with interesting and new tools. There are still so many things that you do that I am learning from you.
