Buffalo Stance - Neneh Cherry The song "Buffalo Stance" is from Neneh Cherry's Raw Like Sushi album. Neneh Is a two time Grammy award winner, the Grammy she received in 1990 was for Buffalo Stance, which ironically won. Originally , she was beaten out for that Grammy for Best New Artist by Milli Vanilli. But, she was awarded the Grammy when it was discovered that Milli Vanilli didn't sing on their album. Other singles off of the Raw Like Sushi album include -- "Manchild", "Kisses in the Wind", "Heart" and "Inna City Mama". Neneh took some time off from public appearances until 1992 as she was recovering from Lyme disease. Which may have hurt her sales for her follow up album, Homebrew, was not as successful as her previous album. Neneh is still a recording artist working in collaboration with group like the Gorillaz and Edward Kowalczyk of Live. Review.- Neneh Marianne Karlsson Cherry (born March 10, 1964 in Stockholm) better known as Neneh Cherry, is a Swedish singer, songwriter, rapper, DJ, and occasional broadcaster. Cherry blended hip hop with other influences, and experienced some mainstream success with several of her recording. She born to a Sierra Leonean father, Amahdu Jah (a drummer) and a Swedish painter/textile artist mother, Monika Karlsson, known as Moki Cherry. Her siblings include the singers Titiyo Jah and Eagle-Eye Cherry. Her step-father Don Cherry raised her since birth so Neneh took his name on. Cherry lived the first years of her life in the small Swedish town Hässleholm. Soon Mokie met Don and the family accompanied him on his tours through Europe and North America. Booga Bear), who co-wrote most of her debut album Raw Like Sushi, and whom she would eventually marry. She was intimately involved in the Bristol Urban Culture scene, working as an arranger on Massive Attack's Blue Lines album and helping out in various other ways in the scene. Famously, she gave birth while Shara Nelson was recording the vocals for the album in the same house. Robert Del Naja and Andrew Vowles of Massive Attack had in turn contributed to Raw Like Sushi. Her single "Buffalo Stance" was an international blockbuster and she caused controversy when she performed the song - complete with gyrating choreography - on UK television show Top Of The Pops while 7-8 months pregnant. Buffalo Stance eventually peaked at number 3 on the UK pop charts and number 1 on the American Dance charts, also number 21 at Australia, 14 in NZ and 2 in Germany. It becoming one of 1988's biggest club anthems. More singles released between 1988 and 1990 included the slower "Manchild," "Kisses On The Wind," "Heart," and "Inna City Mama." She also found success with "I've Got U Under My Skin," a dramatic reworking of the Cole Porter song, which appeared on the Red Hot + Blue AIDS fundraising album. Lyme disease kept her away from the limelight until 1992. Her second solo outing was Homebrew. Led by the single "Money Love", it was not as commercially successful as its predecessor, but received great critical acclaim. The album met with some success on the dance charts (with "Buddy X," which would become an even bigger hit years later in a remix by Dreem Teem) and on college radio (with "Trout," a duet with Michael Stipe). The album also included a contribution from Gang Starr. In 2004, Cherry became a grandmother when Naima had son Louis Clyde Flynn Love. CirKus is a trip-hop band formed by Burt Ford, Karmil, Lolita Moon and Neneh Cherry. DJ and producer Matt Kent, best known as Karmil, was recruited by famous producer Cameron McVey (Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky, Neneh Cherry...) as a record engineer assistant. They began to work on their own material at Karmil's home studio, in London. McVey was singing, and he chose a new nickname : Burt Ford. Karmil's girlfriend, Lolita Moon, was asked to sing on some tracks. Eventually, McVey's wife, Neneh Cherry, joined the team and performed rapped/sung vocals. McVey and Karmil convinced Cherry to move to Sweden and settle in McVey-Cherry's country house near Malmö. They are currently based in Stockholm. In 2006 they released their debut album laylow.
