Oregonians Gather to Oppose Proposed LNG Terminals Third in a series of speakers from the February 6, 2008 Rally against Liquefied Natural Gas on the Capital steps in Salem Oregon. This segment features music by the Raging Grannies as well as farmers and other Oregonians opposed to this non renewable, unsustainable technology being foisted upon the people of Oregon in order to bring natural gas to the markets of California. Little or none of this gas will be supplied to Oregonians and the proposed facilities would damage salmon runs, compromise existing waterways, and put people living along the pipe line in danger. Oregon's Team -- Save Oregon Wrestling In the first half of the 20th century, native Oregonians filled the rosters of University of Oregon sports teams. When intercollegiate athletics became all about winning and money, the opportunities for Oregonians to play for the Ducks dwindled. Only one varsity team at the U of O relies primarily on Oregon high school graduates to fill its roster: the wrestling team. On July 13, 2007, athletic director Pat Kilkenny announced suspension of Oregon's proud, 54-year-old wrestling tradition. We think it was a strange choice for a native of Heppner, Oregon. Oregon 9 Year Report The Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) released its ninth annual report on the Death with Dignity Act, confirming Oregonians benefit from improved end-of-life care under the statute. The report is notable this year for its use of value-neutral language to describe a patient's choice for aid in dying. ODHS no longer uses the inflammatory term "assisted suicide," instead referring to "persons who use the Oregon Death with Dignity Act." The new language reflects the intent of the law which states, "Actions taken in accordance with (Oregon's Death with Dignity Act) shall not, for any purpose, constitute suicide, assisted suicide, mercy killing or homicide, under the law." Sonic in Hillsboro, Oregon Oregonians all over the state are rejoicing over the new Sonic Drive-In that just opened in Hillsboro, OR. It is Portland's first! Opening day hundreds if not thousands of cars lined up within specially marked waiting zones to get a taste of what was for many of them their first Sonic burger. The service was extraordinary. I stayed in line for about 15 minutes and was immediately escorted to one of the many drive-in booths. If you haven't been yet and if you live in the Portland metro area, I suggest you pay them a visit.
