V-22 Osprey The V-22 Osprey is a joint service, multimission, military tiltrotor aircraft with both a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) and short takeoff and landing capability (STOL)Built by Boeing Helicopters-Bell textron. It is designed to perform missions like a conventional helicopter with the long-range, high-speed cruise performance of a turboprop aircraft. The initial operators are the U.S. Marine Corps and United States Air Force. The FAA classifies the Osprey as a model of powered lift aircraft. The Osprey is the world's first production tiltrotor aircraft, with one three-bladed proprotor, turboprop engine, and transmission nacelle mounted on each wingtip. It typically operates as a helicopter with the nacelles vertical (rotors horizontal) for takeoff and landing. Once airborne, the nacelles rotate forward 90° in as little as 12 seconds for horizontal flight, converting the V-22 to a more fuel-efficient, higher-speed turboprop airplane. STOL rolling-takeoff and landing capability is achieved by having the nacelles tilted forward up to 45°. For compact storage and transport, the V-22's wing rotates to align, front-to-back, with the fuselage. The proprotors can also fold in a sequence taking 90 seconds. The V-22's development processes have been long and controversial. When the development budget, first set at $2.5 billion in 1986, had reached $30 billion in 1988, then-Defense Secretary Dick Cheney zeroed out the budget, but was overruled by Congress. The first flight occurred on March 19, 1989. Additionally, the V-22 squadron's former commander at New River, Lieutenant Colonel Odin Lieberman, reputedly instructed his unit that they needed to falsify maintenance records to make the plane appear more reliable. A crew member's recording included him stating that "We need to lie or manipulate the data, or however you wanna call it".On September 28, 2005, the Pentagon formally approved full-rate production for the V-22. The current plan is to boost production from 11 a year to 24 to 48 a year by 2012. Planned production quantities include 360 for the Marine Corps, 48 for the Navy, 50 for the Air Force. The U.S. Army, originally the lead service for the then-named JVX program, is also a candidate for possible applications. On December 12, 2005, the Pentagon announced that the procurement budget for the Marine Corps V-22s would be reduced by $1.1 billion over the production run. Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey The V-22 Osprey is a joint service, multi-mission military aircraft with vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capability. It is designed to perform VTOL missions like a conventional helicopter while also having the long-range cruise abilities of a twin turboprop aircraft. See in the first minute or so, the helicopter takes off and than the engines are leaned forward, so it can fly horizontaly as a twin turboprop aircraft! Amazing! Osprey In East Providence Rhode Island Here are some shots of Osprey who nest in East Providence, RI. I visited this spot last year. Last year these two were just hatchlins, Osprey (Pandion haliaetus), also known colloquially as seahawk, fish hawk or fish eagle, is a diurnal, fish-eating bird of prey. It is a large raptor, reaching 60 centimetres (24 in) in length with a 1.8 metre (6 ft) wingspan. It is brown on the upperparts and predominantly whitish on the head and underparts, with a brownish eyepatch and wings. The Osprey tolerates a wide variety of habitats, nesting in any location near a body of water providing an adequate food supply. It is found on all continents except Antarctica although in South America it occurs only as a non-breeding migrant. As its other common names suggest, the Osprey's diet consists almost exclusively of fish. It has evolved specialised physical characteristics and exhibits some unique behaviours to assist in hunting and catching prey. As a result of these unique characteristics, it has been given its own taxonomic genus, Pandion and family, Pandionidae. Four subspecies are usually recognised. Despite its propensity to nest near water, the Osprey is not a sea-eagle. Tags: Osprey Hawk flying nature wild animal mating call Eagle bird wildlife |

Osprey An Osprey is communicating to it's mate as it stands atop it's nest in a English Beach tree. These indiginous birds of Long Island are skilled at fishing. They swoop down from a great hight & out-stretch their massive curved claws to clench the slippery fish. They live in open lakes that are surrounded by either tall buildings or tall trees. Blackbird Attack Osprey Video shows an in-flight attack of an osprey by a red-winged blackbird. Also shows Osprey diving after fish, feeding nestlings, tearing food apart, swooping, calling, defending nest, responding to intruders, protecting nestlings, nestling, flying and other characteristics of their lives. In one part of the video, the osprey carries a large chunk of fish in its talons. In other parts, osprey can be seen diving for prey. The osprey can fly to from Venezuela to Ohio in 2 weeks. It can fly at 60 mph and can cover 600 miles in one day. The Osprey (Pandion haliaetus) is also called the fish eagle, seahawk, or fish hawk. It is a huge fish-eating predator. This raptor is 24 in. in length, has a 6 ft. wingspan, and can weigh up to almost 5 lbs. Its head is white with a dark mask across the eyes that reaches to the sides of the neck. The irises of its eyes are golden to brown with a transparent bale blue nictitating membrane. It is whitish on the head and underparts with a brownish eyepatch and wings. It has a very complicated call, as shown here-with a large vocabulary of sounds. Its calls include sharp whistles, and a sort of shreek. In this video, as boaters approached the nest, the birds gave a great variety of calls. The Osprey can arch its wings, which gives it a gull type appearance. Ospreys normally mate for life and live 20-25 years. In heraldry, the Osprey is depicted as a white eagle. It is featured on 50 postage stamps. In mythology, a king became a sea eagle to attack his dauthter when she fell in love with Minos, king of Crete. It has been variously classified with the falcons, hawks, and eagles. It is unusual in that it is a single species that occurs nearly everywhere in the world and in all climates. A few of my favorites, with Night flying, the Harrier, Helicopters, and the Osprey V-22 A simulator is a must these days to get the controls and orientation down before trying the real thing. First footage of V-22 Osprey in Iraq An inside source over in Iraq shot me a note yesterday with a link that shows a Marine-produced video telling the story of their assistance in securing routes for Iraqis traveling to the Haaj. But in it - about half way through - is the first known footage of the Osprey on a deployment. It's just a quick shot, but we'll call it a "proof of life" that the MV-22 is indeed deployed to Iraq and can land safely in the desert (sarcasm). Also, my bro in Iraq joked with me that he took a ride on an Osprey the other day to the town of Qaim. It was his first time in an Osprey and he was a serious skeptic. On his way back to base, he had to fly aboard a CH-53 and he told me he kept thinking to himself "what the hell is taking so long..." The Osprey's performance changed his mind, as it did for me when I took a ride in one. http://defensetech.org/ Tags: V-22 Osprey Iraq Marines footage |

Osprey 3 fish no fish This video I call 3 fish no fish. Just before 8am Dennis brought in a headless fish. Baby goes nuts and it sounds like dad slams into cam pole/perch. Then Betty brings in a live striper. During a scuffle, wings flap, ospreys screech, the striper flips and goes over the side and heads for the river. Sibling with no fish attacks the other with fish. All 3 go over the side and the babies return with no fish. Dennis brings third fish (headless Koi), siblings fight, all three go over . One returns and one hangs on the side of nest trying to eat. Fish is lost and now they call for more again still at 10:30 am.11:30am they are sleeping still no fish. (DPOF) Dennis Puleston Osprey Fund live Cam of Osprey nest on Long Island, New York.
