Red Tail P-51C honors Tuskegee Airmen Ground shots and flybys of Red Tail project P-51C Mustang "By Request" of the Minnesota Wing of the Commemorative Air Force at the 1941 Historic Aircraft Group Airshow in Geneseo, NY, July 2001. Then, the niece of a Tuskegee Airmen veteran gets the chance to lifetime with a backseat ride in "By Request" This P-51C was lost along with its pilot, on May 29th, 2004. Don Hinz, of the Red Tail project was performing at the 2004 Wings of Freedom airshow when the aircraft suffered a catastrophic engine failure. After completing a high speed pass, the sudden and unexpected failure of the Y-drive caused the engine to abruptly and completely stop. Attempting to execute a forced landing in trees near the airport, the aircraft was severely damaged and the pilot fatally injured. The airframe is currently undergoing a second reconstruction, and restoration of the fuselage is nearing completion. P-51C, B-17G, & B-25J takeoffs This is the second of two videos from the Wings of Freedom Tour 2008 by the Collings Foundation World War II Aircraft. The videos were taken June 8th, 2008. I had a difficult time holding the camera steady. I had to hold it over the top of a fence (and my head) and use the LCD display in bright sunlight. This made the video rather shaky and I trouble keeping the aircraft centered. I was using a still camera in a video mode which did not make it any easier.
