Pacific Electric Railcar This is a detailed replica that operates on weekends along a short stretch of the waterfront in San Pedro (Los Angeles Harbor), CA in the United States. The Pacific Electric railway system was (and old timers consider it to still be) the most comprehensive and efficient mass transit system ever operated in the Los Angeles basin. The red car, at its peak in the mid 1920's, had over 1,000 miles of track and operated 2,700 cars daily. The railway system operated on a spiderweb of track and transported passengers to virtually all areas in Los Angeles. Born 1902 Killed 1961 Ironically, this car operates across the harbor channel where stacks and stacks of Pacific Electric railcars fell into extinction.
