California Considers Healthcare for ALL-The $ issue This was the last hearing on SB840 - esteemed Senator Sheila Kuehl's bill proposing a single-payor healthcare system in Calfornia. The bill is in 'suspense' - that means (and somebody please correct me if I don't have this right) that it is up to the lesgislators whether or not to deal with it in upcoming sessions. This bill passed the vote of both houses (remarkably) only to be veto'd by Arnold however, that does not mean it's dead and from what happened at this hearing, it appears to be very much alive and gaining traction - especially in light of the upcoming election and the growing concern amongst all Americans re healthcare. Comments are welcome and encouraged. This video has gotten some attention but no comments. It would be helpful to hear what people are thinking about this hearing and the healthcare situation in California in general (besides just complaining about it). This video also highlights the fiscal impact of SB840 and straightens out the mis-conception on the part of many that a single-payor system in California would cost more than continuing to rely on the present private insurance-driven system. Sheila Kuehl has shown unequivically that if anything, the cost for a universal heatlhcare system in California would be less than the cost of the current system and the majority of legislators let alone working people and the middle class in California concur.
