Shanghai traffic As in so many Eastern countries, Chinese traffic is a story all by itself. This short shot of a busy intersection in Shanghai shows a nice piece of applied chaos theory. There ins no sound, but imagine the accompanying concerto of car horns. Tags: China Traffic |

Shanghai i-amtv Asian indie music may not be mainstream but is seeking to make waves via 3G mobile phones, personal media players, IPTV and online video networks. The calm atmosphere of the 133-year-old Husi complex, now converted into a creative industry park, reverberated to unique and funky music. Visitors to the recent NeoSpring Creative Festival enjoyed watching the performances by eight independent (indie) artistes and bands who did their usual alternative numbers. They were content with the appreciation of the small audience. "The mainstream media still has limited knowledge and recognition of independent music, which is not well received by the general public yet," said Luo Hao, who is also known as iloop, from Beijing. IGO, a Shanghai-based electro new wave band formed last year by JJay and B6, may have found an answer through its collaboration with i-amtv, also known as Independent Asian Music Television channel. i-amtv is a new multi-platform music video channel aimed at bringing exciting elements of Asian indie music to 3G mobile phones, personal media players, IPTV and online video networks. It sets out to unleash the music programming that probably cannot be found in MTV or other television networks. All indie musicians have to do is send i-amtv their works for dissemination via its partner networks or platforms. So far, IGO has given i-amtv two music videos to be featured in various digital platforms. Some of the region's best acts like Twisted Machine (China), An Id Signal (Hong Kong), Art Thomya (Thailand), Pop Shuvit and Nao (Malaysia), Firebrands (Singapore), Kou Chou Ching (Taiwan) and Suck Stuff (South Korea) have signed up to work with the channel. Music Kampany, set up by much-sought-after Malaysian musician Genervie Kam, was appointed by i-amtv founder and Wildwave CEO Stephen McCormack as its sole content acquisition representative in Asia. Wildwave and Music Kampany were in Shanghai recently to promote the new i-amtv channel to prospective partners and Chinese indie bands. Wildwave has a wide distribution network including 3G phones, Joost, Apple ITMS, Sony PSP and Microsoft Zune as well as clients and partners like Vodafone, Apple, Telus, Setanta Media, Nokia and Cingular. They also brought good news that Sony Connect would be i-amtv's worldwide distribution partner, making Asian indie music content available on the Sony PSP platform. report by Chow How Ban, the star, malaysia Tags: i-amtv wildwave kampany 3g iptv sony neospring |

The Shanghai Grand 1 Clip 1 Taiwanese special agent HSU WEN-CHIANG (Leslie Cheung) was the only survivor of an onslaught. He saw his assassins reporting to a cigar-smoking man and determined to take revenge. He was later saved by a Shanghai streetwise pauper TING LIK (Andy Lau); both became best friends. TING was crazy about CHING CHING, daughter of a Shanghai tycoon. But CHING's heart was on HSU, whom she met few years ago. Gradually, TING and HSU built up their empire in Shanghai. Yet, their friendship began falling apart due to mounting conflicts. When CHING was excited to present HSU to her dad, HSU nevertheless recognized him as the cigar-smoking man behind the assassination. He killed him on the spot, which drove CHING crazy mentally. TING set to kill HSU, who shot right back - only with empty bullets. TING's hatred of HSU instantly vanished and he tried to save his old buddy. But a Taiwanese agent appeared and shot TING. HSU died at the pier watching the beautiful dawn of Shanghai, a place he and TING were destined to rule. "Shanghai Grand" is about brotherhood, eternal triangle, power, betrayal ...with one after another unexpected dramatic scenes English Subtitle. China, Shanghai Makeover (Part1of5) Modern China Because of Shanghai's status as the cultural and economic center of East Asia for the first half of the twentieth century, it is popularly seen as the birthplace of everything considered modern in China. It was in Shanghai, for example, that the first motor car was driven and the first train tracks and modern sewers were laid. It was also the intellectual battleground between socialist writers who concentrated on critical realism (pioneered by Lu Xun and Mao Dun) and the more "bourgeois", more romantic and aesthetically inclined writers (such as Shi Zhecun, Shao Xunmei, Ye Lingfeng, Eileen Chang). Two women wear Shanghai-styled qipao while playing golf in this 1930s Shanghai advertisement.Besides literature, Shanghai was also the birthplace of Chinese cinema & theater. China's first short film, The Difficult Couple (Nanfu Nanqi, 1913), and the country's first fictional feature film, Orphan Rescues Grandfather (Gu'er jiu zuji, 1923) were both produced in Shanghai. These two films were very influential, and established Shanghai as the center of Chinese film-making. Shanghai's film industry went on to blossom during the early Thirties, generating Marilyn Monroe-like stars such as Zhou Xuan. Another film star, Jiang Qing, went on to become Madame Mao Zedong. The talent and passion of Shanghainese filmmakers following World War II and the Communist revolution in China contributed enormously to the development of the Hong Kong film industry. Many aspects of Shanghainese popular culture ("Shanghainese Pops") were transferred to Hong Kong by the numerous Shanghainese emigrants and refugees after the Communist Revolution. The movie In the Mood for Love (Huayang nianhua) directed by Wong Kar-wai (a native Shanghainese himself) depicts one slice of the displaced Shanghainese community in Hong Kong and the nostalgia for that era, featuring 1940s music by Zhou Xuan Tags: China Shanghai Makeover (Part1of6) chinese economic economy rasing rise superpower 中國 上海 經濟 超級 強國 |
