Driving through the rural mountains in Shimane Japan I had a few fun lessons on December 10th at my smallest elementary school, which is located up in the mountains above Taisha. It was a nice day sunshine wise, so I turned on my camera and shot a little bit of footage driving back to my Jr High at about 12:30 in the afternoon. Yaegaki & Kamosu Shrines in Shimane, Japan Yaegaki & Kamosu Shrines in Shimane, Japan Yaegaki shrine is known as the Gods of Marriage. Kamosu shrine was designated as a National Treasure in 1952. Yaegaki shrine's Omikuji is quite unique. It is a flat piece of paper not folded. You buy the Omikuji and bring it to Kagaminoike pond in the forest near the shrine. Then put the Omikuji with a coin on the surface of the pond. At the same time putting the Omikuji, fortune message appears on it. It's said that the sooner the Omikuji sinks in the pond, the sooner you will marry. Omikuji is a traditional form of Japanese fortune telling in which a person's fortune is written on the piece of folded paper and is typically sold at Shinto Shrines. JET Program Vlog supplement - Rural reststop in Shimane I shot this footage about 5 weeks ago, after the 3-day CHESS camp had finished. I was on my way home in the afternoon and driving down from Mt Sanbe, when I was once again struck by how beautiful Shimane is. Living in the inaka can be boring at times, but Shimane is surrounded by wonderful nature. The mountains, rivers, lakes, and the Japan Sea are all within a hour or less from where I live.
