MRSA Staph Infection Wound Packing That would be me packing the wound from a staph infection a year ago. I hope you just threw up. Edit: Since there were bunches of questions about this, here goes. This was CA-MRSA or community-associated. No idea how I got it. On Tuesday it started out as a little zit on my stomach. By Thursday the infected area (light pink area around the head) was the entire size of my abdomen. Being the sick person I am, I decided to pull the head of the cyst out with tweasers. This left me with (as my hospital chart stated) "a dime sized hole" in my stomach. Due to the fact this was extremely painful and I could fit the end of my pinky into the hole...or probably a marble, I decided it was time to go to the hospital. They put me on anti-biotics and told me if the infection hadn't gone down by the next day, they were going to do surgery. It hadn't, they cut me open, and after the culture came back they realized the antibiotics didn't do anything because I had MRSA. The video was taken a week or so after I got out of the hospital and there is actually substantially less packing than there was at first. I could easily fit in 3 feet at first. E.R. "Staph" This is a video of my nasty Staph infection before the doctor drained it. A Staph infection (not "staff") comes from a bacteria called Staphylococcus (pronounced staff-IL-o-kock-us). This bacteria lives on pretty much anything, i.e. desks, chairs, floors, walls). But only certain strains of the bacteria cause the infection. If you have a break in your skin, such as a cut, and you come into contact with one of those strains, you could get the infection. It causes a hot, swollen, infected bull's eye or circular welt with a dark center, and it can be painful. If you think you might have a staph infection, you need to go to the hospital immediately so that you can get it drained. Untreated staph infections can enter the blood stream and infect your organs. In its more severe stages, the skin can start to slough off. Staph infection is absolutely NOT caused by not bathing or being dirty. To prevent an infection, be weary in the gym. Wipe down equipment before using it. Staph is particularly common on wrestling mats and workout machines. He is back home after spending four nights in an isolated hospital room at St. Joseph's. Tarwater said it was a big problem that started out small. Staph Causes Richmond School To Close For Cleaning A Richmond elementary school has been closed for cleaning after several of its students have been diagnosed with a staph infection. Earlier this week, school officials sent home a letter to parents saying that five students at Sunrise Elementary were diagnosed with MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, which is a drug-resistant form of the staph infection. On Friday, officials said at least four others at the school were diagnosed with staph, and the district decided to close the school as a precaution. Officials said the initial five students appeared to have contracted the infection randomly, but the new cases were all linked to the same classroom. All of those diagnosed are being treated and are expected to recover. Richmond school officials said parents have been very concerned about the infections. 2 Kansas Students Have Staph Infections Two metro area school districts are dealing with drug-resistant staph infections. A student a Corinth Elementary School in the Shawnee Mission District was diagnosed with staph. The district sent home a letter to parents. And in the Piper School District, a junior on the Piper High School football team was diagnosed with an infection. The student was not hospitalized and is on antibiotics. The Piper School District sent home a letter to parents letting them know an athletic building and the school would be sanitized.
