009 Audi TTS @ 2008 NAIAS by Inside Line http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/autoshows/detroit/2008/2009auditts.html What's special? Well, it's still pretty cute and now it has 272 horsepower. Nice combo if you can get it. Positioned as the top model in the TT lineup, the 2009 Audi TTS will go on sale in November in either coupe or convertible form. Its 272 hp comes courtesy of a high-boost version of the company's familiar turbocharged direct-injection 2.0-liter inline-4 engine. The little mill also pumps out 258 pound-feet of torque between 2,500 rpm and 5,000 rpm. According to Audi, this 2.0-liter features a revised engine block, cylinder heads, pistons and connecting rods. Tags: 2008 Detroit Auto Show NAIAS 2009 Audi TTS TT Inside Line |

JESUITS - gadget @ TTS -EP63- Pharos GPS Trips and Pics http://www.thetechstop.net/?page_id=928 Are you adrift in a sea of digital pictures? --- If so, you need to take a look at the Pharos "Trips and Pics" -- a GPS 'geotagging' system that might be the ultimate in vacation photo collecting. The Pharos Trips & Pics is a self-contained geotagging package complete with GPS receiver, battery and interface software. About the size of two stacked matchboxes, the Trips and Pics is small enough to fit in a shirt pocket and light enough (only .15 lbs) to be hung around your neck. Pharos is known for high-quality GPS devices and the Trips and Pics is no exception. The GPS receiver has an integrated patch antenna, 20 channel tracking and a 24 hour battery. It also has enough memory to log up to 45 days worth of GPS fixes. Trips and Pics is compatible with any digital camera and the software will automatically tag each picture, placing them on your map of choice. -- We used it with Google earth and were rewarded with a visual representation not only of our travels, but of the location of each and every single on of our photos. Since it uses the time stamp of the photos and compares them against the time stamp of the GPS receiver log entries, each picture is placed on the map exactly where it was taken. The end result was that we had a fantastically detailed map of our path around the island, and a neatly organized trip photo album. If we wanted to, we could share this album with the world, or just with our friends --- This changes the paradigm of the family photo album. http://www.TheTechStop.net/?page_id=9 Tags: logging geotagging GPS satellite NEMA Ballecer ubergeek google earth university hawaii uofh calprov |

JESUITS - gadget@TTS -Ep50- Sandisk Sansa Clip http://www.TheTechStop.net This week on 'gadget' we take a look at the Sansa Clip from Sandisk, one of the masters of flash data storage devices. This diminutive player packs 1, 2, or 4 GB of music-storing goodness, a digital FM tuner, onboard EQ, voice recorder, and a 1" OLED color screen into a package that is about the size of a small matchbox. The Clip supports MP3, WMA, Protected WMA, and Audible files, as well as the Rhapsody Music subscription service for those who want an "all-you-can-eat" music selection. With prices starting at $35, the Clip is a great alternative to a more expensive music player that lacks the screen and additional features of the Sansa device. Top it all off with stellar audio quality, an easy-to-use interface and intuitive controls, and you have a player that challenges the iPod Shuffle for dominance of the on-the-go music market. http://www.TheTechStop.net/?page_id=9 Tags: Sandisk Sansa Clip mp3 wma audible drm rhapsody shuffle ipod ballecer jesuit calprov |

JESUITS - gadget @ TTS -Ep41- DisplayLink -- CES2008 USB to VGA adapters have been around for several years now, but their performance has been a mixed-bag at best and downright embarrassing at worst. The few USB-VGA adapters that have passed through our labs were quickly relegated to a bottom drawer or unceremoniously returned to shipper. With poor driver support, awful performance and terribly image quality, we assumed that video over USB was impossible. Then we met the uberGeeks from DisplayLink. These brainy engineers have come up with a way to deliver full-motion, high-quality images and video over a USB 2.0 connection. With up to 6 adapters connected to a single computer and DisplayLink technology making its way into products from several major manufacturers, your multiple monitor setup might be driven by USB. JESUIT - gadget @ TTS -Ep30- SanDisk Sansa Connect http://www.TheTechStop.net I may not be a fan of Apple's media players (though I admire their laptop design) but even I can see that we live in an iPod world. Every new media device is inevitably compared to the iPod and measured in terms of its "iPod Killer"-ness. Even with charges by Creative Labs, Microsoft and Samsung, Apple seems to be sitting pretty. Most of the iPod competitors have invested heavily in marketing campaigns to make their devices as hip, cool and socially necessary as the iPod — Many of those same companies then build-in "features" that seem to cripple the players (DRM, clunky PC interface, etc.) — It seems that all too often the possibly usurpers of the iPod throne forget about designing devices that "just work." — And so I've given up on media players.... Or at least I had before I got a chance to review the SanDisk Sansa Connect The Sansa Connect is a compact media player with 4GB of internal Flash memory and a MicroSD slot for those who need expanded capacity. It's plug-and-play compatible with any XP or Vista system and it synchronizes with Windows Media Player. This means that Windows users will not need any drivers or application software to load up the player with their content. This little device has a small but vibrant color LCD screen and can play WMA, MP3s, and MPEG4 videos. Sansa has put a lot of effort into making the Connect usable and intuitive. The menus are easy to navigate, the scroll wheel simple to figure out, the screen is bright and readable even in direct sunlight. The Connect has a small speaker embedded into the back of the device that was actually quite usable and not nearly as tinny as we figured it would be. It has a standard complement of ports and users can configure everything from search to screen brightness and volume — but it's not in the standard music player functions that give the Connect its name — for that, we look to the integrated WiFi. SanDisk has designed the Connect to integrate with the Yahoo! Music Store. When the WiFi finds an access point, it will automatically log into Yahoo, let users see which of their friends are online, stream music directly to their players and — most importantly — download music directly to the device without ever having to plug it into a computer. — We had a blast playing with the Connect and the full review is going to show it. If you want a well-designed media player that isn't locked down like a Zune or iPod, you might want to check out this $110 player — you'll be glad you did.
